Boycott College GameDay when it comes to AA, Go to Big Noon

Submitted by the Glove on November 13th, 2023 at 11:30 AM

In the highly likely event that College GameDay comes to Ann Arbor in 2 weeks, there should be a complete and total boycott from Michigan fans. This is not an original idea of mine, I am borrowing it from a Reddit user zygomanis. This is based on how ESPN has handled "signgate" as they have dubbed it. Also, the sheer fact of the complete garbage Steven A Smith, Paul Finebaum, and Pete Thamel have been spewing. Hell, the only discussion on College Football Final about the game was the panel making fun of Sherrone Moore. I would love to see a barren field at Pioneer where they generally set up, but instead, everybody going to Big Noon. Let's make it a big spectacle. I am posting this now because it generally takes some time for momentum to build on ideas like these and to spread the word. FUCK ESPN!

you can do that if you want. and itll be filled with osu fans and we look like clowns. im sure theyll make up a reason to go to JMU vs. Northern VA Community College.. or Liberty vs. the Hallelujah Chorus

Maybe they won't allow negative signs; perhaps they'll mute the boos and obscenities; but they can't censor a few thousand middle fingers extended their way.

Show up and overwhelm, just as the team will be subsequently doing ...

UM should let them on campus, and then barricade it so fans can't go.

You won't get a full boycott to work. And any traction you do get with it will just result in it being an all OSU crowd.

The alternative is to go and boo for 3 hours, which sounds exhausting.

That would be a great way to give espn the middle finger.  Let them set up but block off all fans so it will sabotage the show.  They deserve it after the shit they were talking when the Big ten pulled a fast one on Michigan friday night and tried to sabotage their game.

Youre 100% right though, that would be exhausting to yell and boo a network for 2-3 hours right before the biggest game of the year.

While I wont be there, I will be there in spirit in this decision.

Go give them the bird men and women of Michigan football.

They want to be mean, and evil, what a bunch of jackasses.

They can blur signs to bolivia. I'd love to see Michigan dominate the space behind them with plain maize or blue signs (no writing), or high-contrast block M or BET signs. Things that would overcome a blur.

To be super-impactful, just stand silently with the signs and crowd the place so there's no visible OSU footprint. Silent protest is powerful, though I'm not sure silence can be had in that environment.

I think that's the kind of thing ^^ that would let Michigan dominate the background and get our message across despite the filters, muting, etc. It's probably not practical but it would be noticed. And even if ESPN was able to reduce the background activity, the protest itself would probably pick up other media. Someone would have pictures and write about it in other places.

How about just not allow them to be onsite for The Game.

I mean, if the University says "No, we don't want you here and we're not letting anyone on our team do interviews with you for your stupid show", they can't just show up right?

I've been watching Big Noon Kickoff almost exclusively the past 3-4 years.  It's more B1G centric with fresher faces and they've poached some good talent from ESPN - Rinaldi and Fallica. ESPN had just gotten stale for me.  Lee Corso is a national treasure, but it's hard to watch him struggle.  And after the Thamel nonsense of the past few weeks, it's a slam dunk.

Let them go, but then the morning of hire local counsel to file a motion stopping them when it is too late to go somewhere else.

After all, having signs could be a safety issue. They incite cheering which could damage ears and I'm reading many people think it could be a serious noise violation. I know you're thinking don't all preview shows have signs? Won't people everywhere be cheering? You don't understand, it isn't about having signs or cheering it's how those signs are collected and organized.

There should be a boycott from the school; ESPN is not allowed to set up its TV set on school property, and no press passes will be issued to any ESPN employee.

Then when they set up across the street from the stadium, they shouldn't be allowed to get a word in edgewise without a chorus of "FUCK YOU RECE"

I thought this Friday, but then was like, but if that happens it will be all Ohio State fans at GameDay and that will be a bad look. But, Big Noon = Meyer, so they'll probably all be at that.

In any case I think ESPN should just be banned from campus, but that of course doesn't stop them from going to Pioneer.

Do I go to College Gameday and see what might be the last chance to see Corso - even if he is on the awful network and surrounded by Thamel and the annoying shirtless dude?

Do I go to the much more boring Big Noon atmosphere and hear Urban talk nonsense and be Urban?
