I came oh so close to “marrying the enemy”. She was from Shaker and went to OSU, but didn’t care at all for sports, so the relationship was manageable around football season.  But I just couldn’t get past the fact that she went to OSU.

Not for me!  To put this in perspective, I think Tiger Woods is a shitty human being, a sociopath to be more precise.  But I can acknowledge that Tiger is the best golfer ever.  I'd pick Tiger over Nicklaus any day of the week.

Definitely not a safety issue.  But with that, I do think Detroit is not a great city to host major sporting events outside of the standard pro team game.

Yea, that'll be a no from me dawg.

I'm an adventurous eater.  I've eaten horse, camel etc.  When I spent a summer in SE Asia and I tried "bugs" because it was a common fare.  It was the only time in my entire trip that I had to take cipro.  Never again.

So. I’ve watched exactly 0% of women’s college basketball this year. But I have noticed all these transfers. Someone in the know tell me: is this bad and what does this mean for Michigan?

I agree, I don't see a perfect fit with Michigan, but if what the poster said above is true (in that Cal reached out to us), I'm not sure Dusty May is a better hire compared to Cal in the short term.

I still find this crazy.

I still find this crazy.

But there we people on "the edge of internet" stating this as such and that Michigan may be a candidate for him.  At the time, I was thought there is no way he'd leave Kentucky for Michigan, but perhaps we were wrong on this.

I don’t think I realized it until now, but Edey is like 80% of the team.

To be fair, it takes a few moments to see the screen, and sometimes it doesn’t work for people with bad bandwidth. It’s a worthy question to ask IMO.

I don’t envy the mods on their role. With that someone here mentioned an automatic 2-day ban for bringing up anything politics related. Enough to be annoying, but not overly punitive. I thought that was a good idea.

Keep in mind, we are up to 18 teams next year, so top 3rd would not necessarily get us in.

Well, just like 99% of…

Well, just like 99% of people on this board, I'm no expert.  I thought Juwan Howard was going to  be an absolute star.  Oops!  With that, I learned my lesson in that we should be targeting coaches with more HC experience.  DM has very little, and those are at a small no-name school.  As mentioned, I think his FF run was kinda of fluke, of which this fanbase puts way too much stock into.  If people are so high on bringing in FAU transfers who were the core part of a FF run, then those people should expect more than a shitty season.

Overall, DM has yet to show that he has skills that are transferable to the big stage.  That's not to say he won't be successful here.  I think he's a huge risk hire.

I see what you are saying.

I see what you are saying.

I guess my point is that after last week's Alex post about Dusty May, I was less than impressed by the hire.  I felt his FF run was kinda lucky, and that we are putting way too much into that FF run. I got negged fairly hard.  So I played along.

If people are really high on bringing over several of FAU's core FF team, then people should expect more than just having a shitty first year.

Full disclosure: While DM has my full support, I don't think he'll last long at Michigan.  I'm just not seeing it.

I agree! The FAU FF run was…

I agree! The FAU FF run was more Cinderella/luck than something more substantial.

These are not just decent…

These are not just decent-good players, but those that led a team to a FF.

Depth will be an issue no doubt.

Yea kinda.

I was kinda…

Yea kinda.

I was kinda prepped for a bad season next year, but if BM can bring in the core of his FF team, my expectations will rise.

Think about it, if he brings in his FF core, but can't do much in the big ten, then his FF was in fact a big fluke.

Remember, the core of those…

Remember, the core of those guys got FAU to the FF.  If he brings in those core of guys, I'm expecting Michigan to finish in the upper 3rd of the Big10, and being at least a bubble team.

I agree that the first…

I agree that the first couple years are a wash in that he's not going to get fired in those years.  But those years are not a wash with regards to understanding what we have if he brings in the core of FAU that got him to a FF.

For example, if he brings in the core of the FAU FF team, but can barely crack .500 in the big ten, even in year one, we are in trouble.

This may be a bad thing for…

This may be a bad thing for him in that he has no real excuse for a shitty 1st year (if that happens).

Thank you for proving my…

Thank you for proving my point!

That's kinda the thing. …

That's kinda the thing.  There is no perfect union, there is no utopia.  We are simply meandering our way through the ever changes in cultural norms and mores.

Just 8 years ago, I could have posted on social media "boys have a penis, and girls have a vagina" without much reaction, other than something to the effect "why would you post something so obvious".  If I was to post that today, I would likely lose my job!  What's more, in this hypothetical situation, someone would find this post from 8 years ago and judge it against current norms.

Key learning: stay off social media people!

When I was going to Michigan…

When I was going to Michigan in the late 2000's, people were still complaining about how many black people, Jewish people, and women were attending the school.

Unless this is a very small minority of people, there is no way this is true.

Its still an "in" thing,…

Its still an "in" thing, unfortunately.

I agree with you.  With that…

I agree with you.  With that, I try not to get caught up in "presentism": uncritical adherence to present-day attitudes, especially the tendency to interpret past events in terms of modern values and concepts.

There is no doubt that you and your kids are doing so-called acceptable things today that will be unacceptable in the near future.

From your list, Jace Howard…

From your list, Jace Howard is the most unrealistic to remain on the team for next year.

I think people are…

I think people are interpreting your question about his lack of slam-dunkness as questioning the hiring. I don't have that impression, though. I think you're just surprised to learn that there is more risk to his hire than you realized at first because people are so excited. But, like I said, you started to pay attention at the time when everyone was going to be all in and get excited.

This right here!  Exactly.  And I'll reiterated from one of my previous posts, DM has my full support.

Background:  I went to a…

Background:  I went to a massive high school in Cook County (~1000 kids in my graduating class).  Several of my close friends went of UofI.  I was the only person in my graduating class to go to Michigan.  So I know this "rivalry".  It is defined by a handful of instances:

1. We constantly beat the shit out of them in football, and after they fired Gary Moeller, we took it out on them even worse.  This is what older Illinois fans remember.

2. We derailed the best Illinois basketball team ever and went on to win the NC in 1989

3. Illinois should have won the 2000 football game, but some bad officiating benefited Michigan

4. They are a "safety school" academically compared to Michigan and they hate that.  Illinois engineering program is arguably better than Michigan's, but they never get the credit for it.
