AP: Stalions Filed No Expense Reports w/Michigan

Submitted by Communist Football on November 15th, 2023 at 3:45 PM

AP’s Larry Lage did a FOIA request to find any expense reports filed by Connor Stalions, and was told no such reports exist, further demonstrating that no other Michigan staffers or coaches were involved in his scheme:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Connor Stalions, the former Michigan staffer at the center of sign-stealing investigation by the NCAA, did not file any expense reports during the 17 months he was formally employed by the football program, according to the school.

The Associated Press filed a Freedom of Information Act request for Stalions’ expense reports while he was employed from May 2022 through Nov. 3, 2023. There are no responsive records, Patricia Sellinger, chief freedom of information officer at the school, replied in an email sent Wednesday.

Yep.

It's just a Harbaugh Witch Hunt.

I'm sure on Friday - just as he's going to the court-house some "media" will 'drip' something "terrible about Michigan football".

Then, it will be disproven later - after ANOTHER missed game coaching.

Michigan vs. Everybody.

Go Blue.

An unnamed "source" claims Jim Harbaugh may have broken laws multiple times, and could face massive fines and possible jail time as a repeat offender*.

Unnamed source is RMCB message, and law broken is J-walking, which could potentially have a fine or jail time, but phrased in such a way to get most clicks and headlines.  I hate that journalists can make a headline like that, and can't be punished for obviously trying to ruin someone's reputation over nothing.

What’s great about this article is that it’s the kind of thing Michigan can’t officially comment on due to the active NCAA investigation, but outside journalists can. Lage is the Detroit area sports beat reporter for the AP.

Wayyyyy back in the day, Lage was on a sports talk show in Lansing called the "Sports Guys".  It was co-hosted by Dave "Mad Dog" DeMarco (who would go on to do sports talk radio in lansing area for ~20 years) and ...my father.  At least DeMarco and my dad were MSU guys, and at some point, they kicked Larry off the show.  I was like 6 or 7 when it happened- but unnecessary long anecdote aside, it just made me smile to see Lage report something positive for Michigan here.

This seems like a pretty big deal. Unless Stalions and the staff made some huge effort to hide the funding/reimbursement, which so far Stalions has been pretty careless, this seems to continue to point towards Stalions doing this all on his own

Bolded for emphasis.  If you apply the tiniest iota of critical thinking, it doesn't pass Smell Test 101 that Conor Stalions, the same vacuum retail mogul and 00-agent who has *waves hands wildly at all the stories we've heard* would be discreet enough to successfully conceal any untoward activities he was doing at the behest of the coaching staff.  If this guy was really and truly doing the illegal biding of Jim Harbaugh, even Inspector fkn Closeau would've connected those dots and made an an airtight case within 48 hours.

Also further explains why Michigan staff wouldn't know about this.  They know signs are stolen legally, and Stallions must have seemed ok at it, but they probably had no idea he was spending his money doing it this way, when he could have just asked other low level staffs at other schools. And we still don't know for sure what Stallions did was technically against the rules. It is dumb that we are beyond anything but a"hey, maybe let's have you depart with that guy" which is what happened.

This is clearly a pretty big hole in the idea that it was some program established and run by Michigan Football with Jim Harbaugh's blessing

No expenses reports. Connors name on all the tickets. No evidence of anyone else. Etc. This is further evidence its Connors scheme, but Spartys and Buckeyes are gonna try to shift the goalposts again here

This whole thing will turn into much ado about nothing.

Edit: To those who misunderstood this statement - Much ado is all the crap that the B1G, MSU, OSU, ESPN and NCAA have slung at Michigan. The nothing is the infraction.

I wish this were true, but the damage is done. Already have Harbaugh suspended. Perception is reality in most cases. The way this has been handled by the media, regardless of the outcome of any investigations, has been a total hatchet job. NCAA will feel it needs to do something, much like the B1G did.

So, even if everything the rest of the way comes out in Michigan's favor. I don't think we'll like the outcome.

It’s not “nothing”. The suspension is real, and you can’t “un-suspend” Harbaugh for a game that’s already happened.

Likewise, the national audience already considers Michigan “cheaters”, the same way that the Patriots are “cheaters” due to the laws of physics. The accusation is the same as the crime.

Moreover, the sabotage committed against us by the rest of the conference is a warning: this will continue. Ohio State (apparently) set up a masterful smear campaign against us, and now there’s a blueprint. We also have proof positive that the conference itself will not defend Michigan, consult with Michigan, allow Michigan to defend itself, nor even wait until an investigation is done. The conference WILL punish Michigan, but tell ESPN before they tell Michigan

The damage is done.

"I know for a fact, I have multiple sources, that Jim, Minter, Moore and Hart have been putting envelopes full of cash in Stallions mailbox every other Tuesday, start in 2021. I also heard from my sources that they promised Stallions he will be the OC by 2026 if he kept up the good work... this is going to come out REAL soon"

Important that this came from an FOIA request and not the University actively trying to leak it, though I'm sure they are happy to oblige to the request. Definitely doesn't completely exonerate other staff members, but is a step in the right direction towards doing so. Certainly, if expense reports existed, they would be a potential smoking gun that others knew of the scheme. Their absence is at a minimum not evidence against Michigan. Hopefully much more comes out in court and the NCAA investigation to show further proof of our staff's innocence.

it's also really freakin easy to fulfill a FOIA request of this nature. It takes about a minute to check to see if someone's submitted expense reports, and if they haven't - there's nothing further to look at.

Unlike a request that might require digging through thousands of emails, submissions, etc.
