Yes, I did. He has a short shelf life as was established before he was hired at UM. I thought 4-5 years and he'd either go back to NFL due to success or the fans would be hoping he'd go back for other reasons. I was hoping it would be the former.

It is the defense... the last two OSU games we get blown out, and against Wisconsin too....  it is hard to watch getting run on so easily over and over, going against 40 years of Bo/Mo/Lloyd that always was solid against run.  Instead, vs any decent team, we fall behind immediately.

If we had a defense of old, I think the offense would be an annoying point in spots, but I don't think we'd be begging him to go to NFL here.

It is the defense that is the pain that is causing this all.

According to USA Today our salary pool is $6,005,000.  Four programs have $7,000,000+ budgets (Alabama, Clemson, OSU, and Texas A&M).  Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee also have more of a budget than us.  However, this is all based off of last years numbers.  I believe the driving force behind the raise in assistant money is MSU coughing up an assistant pool of around $6 million this year when Mel Tucker was brought in.

I believe we have 3 coaches that make over $500k per year, those being Don Brown, Josh Gattis and Ed Warriner.  Clemson has 9 assistants making over $500,000.  Their sole assistant not making over $500,000 is their recently promoted analysis who is now their WR coach.  He's making $300,000.  Their defensive coordinator makes more than Don Brown and Josh Gattis combined.  Their offensive coordinator makes $700k more than Gattis.

Aside from Warriner, they are all overpaid based on results.

You have to strike a balance between on field results and recruiting.  We should have kept Wheatley, Partridge, & MGatt.  But, Moore and JayB are good recruiters and have developed good players at their respective positions.  They should be retained.  I know people give JH shit for nepotism, but I think JayB has done well.  Moore is one the top recruiters as an assistant.  We all like Warriner.  Brown, Nua, & McDaniels are in the crosshairs.  The new guys are still a bit questionable, particularly the Shoop situation.  He has a good pedigree as a coach, not necessarily a recruiter, but his absence will remain a question until answered.  Zordich has also been a good coach, but not a great recruiter.  This years DBs give pause, but I think his track record probably proves himself enough to stick around.  My best guess is the new guys situation has to be figured out.  They may be one and done.  Brown is right in the crosshairs and Nua and McDaniels are not far away.

I'd be happy to see anyone get paid more who can come in and recruit and kick up the on-field performance.  I just wonder how lucrative a high salary is for a coach to work under Harbaugh.  Maybe we'll see more McElwains, failed HCs who come here for a year or two to raise their stock and move on.  I can live with that as long as they can contribute more than McElwain apparently did...

Seems like they are all grossly overpaid. Oh and the garbage emphasis on incentives?  What, like beating OSU once a decade?  He’s already underperformed, winning big games should just be part of his base salary at this point.  What a spineless play from M athletic department.  Oh and Bacon subtlety kissing Harbaughs ass at the end was a nice touch as well.

How is this any different than previous years? Pep freaking Hamilton was the highest paid assistant in the Big Ten.

Then to replace Pep he hires a guy who's never called a play before over the phone.

What top assistant is coming here to work with him?

If he would be taking a paycut just hire a new freaking coach.

Doesn't matter who coaches Michigan. JH stays, JH leaves, makes no difference. Is Michigan going to bring in anybody who will prevent OSU from winning The Game in the next couple years?

Would love to see Michigan be "back." It's so much better to beat a good Michigan team than beat a bad Michigan team. But it's OSU's mantra to beat Michigan regardless of who is their coach.

Psuedo empathy alert!

Gotta love the Buckeye trolls who post, "Really want you guys to get better so, you know, our self esteem would be enhanced when we beat you then, too"

With the team and program you have, why hang around a bunch of self loathing, self immolating Michigan fans?  It really says something about you.

P.S. I tried to limit the number of M's used so as not to trigger you.

in b-chuck's defense, he has never been a troll.  he is the opposing fan, like officer rabbit or nittany, that we should and generally do welcome to the board.  unless i totally miss my mark, he's the guy who would get an invite to the tailgate at the big house on game day and though he'd wear red, he wouldn't be a jerk and would throw in for the beer and food without even being asked.

Thanks Xtra, you tha man!

I was at MGoTailgate 2017. Talked with Seth for a while. But I don't think Brian would give me the time of day, other than he was eyeballing me as some nefarious intruder. lol

EDIT: ...and congrats on your son's recent decision! What an exciting experience!

*Xichigan. Come on Chuck!

How many wins would you need to see to think that Michigan has OSUs number? A Michigan win and we would go nuts but OSU fans just think just take pity on us and enjoy the next few years.

The Game has not been anything of a rivalry since the '80 with a 6-4 Michigan advantage.

The 90s OSU had Cooper

The 00s/10s with, well, them

So does this new proposal allow Harbaugh to be hired without the buyout clause being triggered in his current contract? Based on the five team number I'm going to say it...

The low buyout move is a complete and utter joke.  All this does is help Harbaugh.  Anyone remember when Belein got this deal?  He left us high and dry.  Sure we were very fortunate an up and comer “Michigan man” was available in Howard.  This buyout can allow Harbaugh to bolt after the NFL season in February with no potential options left for a coaching search leaving us in the worst position ever. If you want him to leave, fire him!
