How damn good are the…

How damn good are the freshmen for BC?  I count three of them that could be playing in the NHL right now.

This season is a bit of a cinderella story even making the Frozen Four.  Last season was the lost opportunity.  Should've won it all with that loaded team.

An all world big man can…

An all world big man can take you a long way but elite guards really make the team hum.

Football and basketball are…

Football and basketball are two different worlds and I like Matt Painter.  A good friend of mine went to Purdue, they are B1G and it would be great for the B1G to win national championships in football and basketball in the same season.  I will be supporting Purdue on Monday night but UConn is really good.  If Purdue wins then they would've certainly earned every bit of it.  Besides, Purdue has been embarrassed the past few years as a high seed getting beat by a low seed.  They really need this one.

That was my question as well…

That was my question as well.  But as I Google the topic it looks like the typical recovery time for an NFL player is 9 to 12 months.  So yeah, it would be wishful thinking to believe Rod Moore would make it back during the regular season.  Playoffs?  Maybe.

It really sucks for sure.

I appreciate TWill at least…

I appreciate TWill at least hanging around to feel out the new coaching regime.  Good luck young man!

Ben Herbert and I have…

Ben Herbert and I have similar obsessions.  The embossed words on the plates all need to be aligned and stacked neatly.  Likewise, the labels on the cans in my pantry all need to be facing outward.  Unfortunately, that is where the similarities between Ben and I end.

Some notes I've taken on Penix throughout the years:

Size is just about right

Loses composure when pulling out of the pocket

Fires medium range ropes and typically hits his target

I listen to "Basketball and…

I listen to "Basketball and Beyond" hosted by Coach K on college sports radio on Sirius.  For all his accolades and achievements he is a pretty humble guy.  Always respectful to his guests and co-hosts.  I don't understand the hatred towards him.

I will add Dusty May to the likeable list.

I don't think Pete Rose…

I don't think Pete Rose betting on games as a manager should detract from his specific accomplishments as a baseball player for which he is being judged for inclusion in the Hall.  Pete Rose should be in the HoF.  You can put an asterisk or footnote on it for all I care but his baseball accomplishments are HoF worthy.

In other words, "I wonder…

In other words, "I wonder what the poor folks are up to?"

I liked Dusty's demeanor and…

I liked Dusty's demeanor and his answers to the questions.  He carries himself well.  The thing that struck me over the past couple days since the news broke was how everyone likes him and has only good things to say about him.  It's not easy to be THAT well liked.

I am a fan and want him to succeed in a big way here, not just for Michigan of course, but for himself.

I will always like anyone…

I will always like anyone who loves Michigan as much (or more than) as I.  Juwan had issues and was ultimately over his head as coach, but nobody is perfect and I applaud that he gave his all to try to make Michigan better.  Not everything has a fairy tale ending.

I love all the pre-shot…

I love all the pre-shot offensive motion -- screens, picks, passing, etc -- that I am seeing in those video clips.

Yeah, people can write books…

Yeah, people can write books and make documentaries/movies about the 2023 Michigan football team.  The story perfectly writes itself, no extra drama needed.  It has to be one of the most fascinating college football stories of all time.

That said, the embarrassment of riches enjoyed by the SEC is ridiculous.

Took me a minute to think of who this guy reminded me of...but at least Kinison was entertaining.

I really like this hire.  Warde - you done good.

Very nice win!  I hope you…

Very nice win!  I hope you put a lot on that parlay bet!  In 15 years of sports betting, I've won a 6-team twice and an 8-team once.  They don't come around often, for me anyway.

The 8-team parlay that I won paid like +26000.  But I only put $1.50 on it and won about $392.  I wish I put $100 on it, in hindsight of course.

Michigan basketball has…

Michigan basketball has never been in worse shape than it is now.  This program needs a head coach and a blessing.

Buyout is $1.5M.  I'll go away if they pay me that.  No hassle.  So $1.5M salary and then $1.5M buyout to equal $3M total.  Worry free.  I'll go away and they'll never hear from me again, promise.  If they wanna talk, I am willing to listen.

I will gladly accept the…

I will gladly accept the head coaching job of the University of Michigan basketball team and I'll do it for a measly $1.5 million.  Take it or leave it.  I'll get shit canned, probably mid-season or earlier, but I would save the AD a heap of money.  And probably set the program back a little.  But the money saved would be (might be but probably not) worth it.

I take absolutely no joy in…

I take absolutely no joy in this but I completely understand and agree with it.  It was the right thing to do.  I loved Juwan Howard the player but it was apparent that he was in over his head as head coach as Beilein's guys and culture slowly left the program.

Fair points.  But at least…

Fair points.  But at least he would also be aware that Craig James killed five hookers.

This blog provides opinion…

This blog provides opinion on the M basketball culture almost daily, and it's free.  Warde could've saved a shit ton of money just by visiting MGoBlog.

There is some missing…

There is some missing information.  Assuming a right cylinder of 8 inch diameter and 2 inch height, the answer is 150.8 sq in.

Truer words have never been…

Truer words have never been spoken.  The ratio of pie, or cake for that matter, to ice cream is 1:3 or even 1:4.  The pie (apple or some type of berry) must be warm and the ice cream must be vanilla.  Substitutes = none.

These are exactly my…

These are exactly my thoughts.  After the first handful of games I thought for sure this was an upper half of the B1G and NCAA tournament team.  I can't help but think the internal strife between Howard and Sanderson severely impacted Howard and the team.  The team started going backwards, things snowballed when key guys got injured and Howard couldn't or didn't know how to turn it around, and then the whole thing crashed and burned in a big way.

Just one more game to suffer…

Just one more game to suffer through and it'll be over.  I guess I can't even classify this as suffering when you know the outcome is going to be a double digit loss.  Negative expectations are the norm this season.  Last season as well.  Apathy is in the house.

This is my first time…

This is my first time watching the team in probably a month or more.  Same shit, different game.  There is 14:40 left in the second half and Michigan is down 16 points.  Awful defense, awful offense.  Why am I watching this?

JJ has all the upside…

JJ has all the upside potential.  And he is a battle tested competitor that knows how to win, has an incredible W/L percentage, and makes the plays necessary TO win.  He plays within his role but can open it up when needed.  He can run and throw with accuracy.  He is mobile with elite speed.  He routinely dissected collegiate defenses and much more often than not made the right decisions with the ball.

I would take JJ in a heartbeat if I was an NFL team.  He and Caleb Williams are in a category by themselves.  Drake Maye and Daniels are in the next tier down.

These scouts appear to be…

These scouts appear to be highly guarded against giving high ratings for fear of said player being average, or a bust, and an NFL team wasting big money in the process.

I never understood the draw…

I never understood the draw to snowboarding.  I am a lifelong skier and I find it easier and more enjoyable, especially when falling down.

I love Mammoth Mtn.  Been there several times.  If you can catch a snow storm during your visit you will be knee or sometimes hip deep in powder.  That area is a snow magnet.

You're not the only one.  I…

You're not the only one.  I don't bet against Michigan ever except for today.  Crap-ola all around.

We're too good for our own…

We're too good for our own good.

Yep, apathy has set in. …

Yep, apathy has set in.  Apathy and BPONE.  Is BPONE reserved only for football because it may apply to basketball right now.

Juwan would've been much…

Juwan would've been much better off just taking the entire season off to recover from heart surgery, for his stress level and his job.  Doing so likely would've 100% secured his job for another season because Warde would've chalked this shit show up to the head coach not being there as the reason for the epic collapse.

Swing easy when it's breezy.

I'm with you.  I saw the…

I'm with you.  I saw the Kenneth Grant rumors, some Mason Graham noise.  But this is the first I heard of Will Johnson bolting.  And I am glad that it is debunked.  We need that nucleus of strong players on defense to stay to keep the train rolling along in 2024.

But Juwan has obtained head…

But Juwan has obtained head coaching experience in his current role -- almost 5 years of it!  And all the mistakes are still happening.  How many more years do we beat our heads against the wall as we wait for him to learn and get better?  I have no idea what a reasonable amount of time is for a noob to learn the ropes but is 4 full seasons and part of a 5th not enough?  It's not happening.  The fit is not right or he is just not good collegiate HC material.

EDIT: I am probably restating things but wanted to also say that he has been involved in basketball his entire life.  And coaching basketball for a long time as well.  So he has the background for the job and the skids should've certainly been greased.  It's not like he's walking into a job designing space satellites.  This is his wheelhouse and so the learning curve really should've been a season or two.

Right.  And beyond that he…

Right.  And beyond that he is proving it live that he is not a good college head coach.  He may be just fine in the NBA.  Or he may end up being a really good NBA coach some day if he gets that opportunity.  But the 4+ years of data with Juwan as a collegiate head coach suggest that he is not good and things are only getting worse.  People might say he just needs more time.  And I would agree if there were any positives in the trend.  But damn, everything that I can see is trending poorly for this team under his leadership.

I agree this was an odd move…

I agree this was an odd move although it was generally applauded publicly because of the "shout out" to Martelli and his long-time service in coaching.  But Juwan had already missed a significant chunk of the season due to his heart surgery.  The team was flailing and did not need its head coach to be off for yet another game.

There are many other ways to recognize Martelli than to hand over the reigns yet again to Juwan's sinking ship.

The facts were presented,…

The facts were presented, both good and bad, and finished with spot on opinion at the end.  Nicely done!

I agree.  It feels like it's over for Juwan but ultimately that is up to Warde.

I would've had a Foggy…

I would've had a Foggy Mountain Breakdown if we didn't get a DL coach quickly.

I've lost interest in…

I've lost interest in college basketball in general this season because Michigan is terrible.  So I haven't followed Dickinson since Michigan fell off the map early in the season.  I hope he goes on to win a title with Kansas though.

That in a nutshell sums up my fandom.  I don't care enough about basketball to watch a bad Michigan team.  But I would reserve time to watch football every Saturday when RR and Hoke were coaching bad teams.

Clink and Elston probably…

Clink and Elston probably believe that time spent in the NFL as a position coach improves your chances of elevating your career to DC or higher, in college or the even the NFL.  Look no further than Mike MacDonald and Jesse Minter for examples.  Both were former position coaches in the NFL prior to getting DC jobs.  MacDonald was a DB and LB position coach with the Ravens before his DC gig at Michigan.  Minter was a DB position coach with the Ravens before his DC gig at Vandy.

There is precedent.
