It’s time - no more delay Warde. Hire Sherrone. He is the right man at the right time.
January 26th, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
Isn't it just a matter of that 7 day waiver?
January 26th, 2024 at 11:08 AM ^
So what? If we can blame Warde now we may as well. Fire Warde! He's adhering to state laws!
January 26th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
Warde is acting both too fast and too slow! He's not interviewing enough people and is interviewing too many people at the same time! He hasn't fired Dakich yet! FIRE WARDE!
January 26th, 2024 at 1:53 PM ^
Reports say that Warde has breathed oxygen today. Fire him!
January 26th, 2024 at 2:08 PM ^
This is priceless!

UM expected to ask for a waiver of the 7 day job posting requirements.
January 26th, 2024 at 10:40 AM ^
I assume it's a 14-day waiting period to get the waiver?
January 26th, 2024 at 10:58 AM ^
And their request to have the 14-day waiting period waived will be processed in 6-8 weeks
January 26th, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
Perhaps a TRO is needed. Unfortunately, a judge probably isn't available because today is National Fun at Work Day AND National Peanut Brittle Day. And we know they don't work weekends. Looks like we're waiting until Monday.
January 26th, 2024 at 12:37 PM ^
Good week for peanuts. National Peanut Butter day was Jan 24th
January 26th, 2024 at 11:00 AM ^
What, is Petitti running the State of Michigan as well as the conference?
January 26th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
We have to give Petitti credit here - if he was in charge, the 7 day period would've already been replaced with a 3 game suspension
January 26th, 2024 at 11:41 AM ^
Remember what Homer said when told he had to wait 5 days to get his handgun?
January 26th, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
Waiting is the hardest part
January 26th, 2024 at 1:19 PM ^
If I had my gun, I'd kill you- Homer

I think there's a law in the state of Michigan that requires the University to post the position - and accept applicants to the position for seven (7) days.
My assumption is - the position has already been posted.
So - for those waiting to hear whether Sherrone is offered / accepts the position - well, we'll need to wait until sometime (I assume) next week.
From my perspective - hiring from within - with the importance of sustaining the culture - the schemes - the TEAM - is a very good thing. And, it would please me greatly, if Michigan extends the offer to Sherrone - and he accepts.
Sherrone is relatively young for this position - and, as others have noted - has not been a "formal" head coach of a college team. Sherrone's 37 years old - Bo was 40 when he became Michigan's head coach. Jim brought experience which was valuable - and, I believe Sherrone's not only "smart", but also a quick study.
"Those who stay will be champions."
I'll be cheering for Michigan - the new head coach - and Teams 145, 146, etc...
Go Blue!
January 26th, 2024 at 10:42 AM ^
My assumption is - the position has already been posted.
If it was, it isn’t currently.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
Wouldn't a well run athletic department at least post the position immediately just in case the waiver doesn't get granted so we can hire 7 days from Wednesday evening?
If the waiver gets denied and then they post the job and we have to wait 7 days from that day, can we blame Warde?
I don't see the posting on UofM's website as well.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:31 AM ^
I assume posting it would undercut their case for the immediate business need
January 26th, 2024 at 12:56 PM ^
Or, just maybe, it's been applied for and granted and what's going on behind the scenes is getting the fine print on his contract just right.
We will not know if we have a new head coach until the fumata bianca comes from the "Vatican's" chimney.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:06 AM ^
You have doubts that he would accept? That seems like a foregone conclusion.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:30 AM ^
So you're saying its not too late to send in my resume?
January 26th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
Get in line, buddy. Mine went in Wednesday night. That year of Rocket football coaching has me in good standing.
January 26th, 2024 at 12:42 PM ^
I have removed my name from consideration for the position
January 26th, 2024 at 2:29 PM ^
I applied. In my cover letter, I expressly state that I will work for a mere 1/10th of what they offered Harbaugh.
But I want immunity. And indemnity. For everything. From everyone. Past and Future.
I eagerly await Warde's response.
January 26th, 2024 at 10:53 AM ^
Sherrone is the HC. The 7 day job posting is just a formality. Sherrone was out on the recruiting trail meeting with recruits and giving offers the days leading up to Harbaugh's departure
January 26th, 2024 at 10:59 AM ^
The 7 day job posting is just a formality
Dang. And I wrote a really nice cover letter.

My brother and I rented tuxes.

I'm envisioning Harry and Lloyd at the Charity Ball.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:02 AM ^
Listen, I’m all for holding Warde Manuel accountable for his (lack of) actions whenever a decision needs to be made…
But blaming him for literally following the law is a little much. There’s a 7 day job posting requirement. We’re applying for a waiver. If that waiver isn’t granted, it’s not Warde’s fault. If that waiver is submitted but takes longer to process than 7 days, it’s not Warde’s fault.
I’m reminded of an Every 3 Weekly article titled “Everything is Chad Henne’s Fault”.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:07 AM ^
This is a pretty good demonstration of the problem with a lot of the criticism of Warde, though. Some stuff, like the Mel Pearson situation, is unqestionably a serious problem of his; but a lot of people criticize him for actions or inactions when they really don't know what is actually going on.
And, to be fair, while there has been some dumb anti-Warde stuff in the last week, most of what I've seen, even from long-time anti-Warde types, has tried to be fair in assessing that Harbaugh was probably not going to stay no matter what Warde did.
In this case, we have a documented issue that is not the responsibility of the AD.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:13 AM ^
I imagine there's a significant overlap with the people who were telling Jim to hurry up and make a decision before the Chargers ever offered him a contract.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:26 AM ^
"but a lot of people criticize him for actions or inactions when they really don't know what is actually going on"
A lot of that going around lately.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:43 AM ^
Fair point in general, but if Sherrone is the guy, and we are waiting on this waiver - why not have our AD communicate it proactively? Some leaders can read the room and consistently communicate effectively (Ono), and some seem to fumble each opportunity to address the elephant in the room (Manuel).
January 26th, 2024 at 4:20 PM ^
Maybe they can just mouth the words in front of a camera without actually saying it.. Or you can just take a nap or something, and come back in a week when they can officially say it.
January 26th, 2024 at 12:57 PM ^
The Warde thing is another notch in Harbaugh's decision making though. I would truly like to know why they hated each other. Maybe it was 2020 and lowering Harbaugh's salary. Then again, maybe it was 2021 and Jimmy looks elsewhere, insulting Warde. Two strong A-types going after the same thing in different ways and butting heads. Irreconcilable differences as they say, I hope it all works out for everybody, and I believe it will. It MUST!
January 26th, 2024 at 2:16 PM ^
Okay, let's address the defense of Warde since we're addressing the criticism.
There is none.
There's only criticisms of the criticism.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:25 AM ^
Wasn't it like "John Navarre Blamed For 9/11"?
(It was definitely Navarre)
January 26th, 2024 at 11:53 AM ^
Yes, and Brian wrote that article
January 26th, 2024 at 12:41 PM ^
It's time - no more delay Warde. Hire Juwan. He is the right man at the right time.
I, personally, don't care who Harbaugh endorses at this time as he left. The cope of too many against better judgement will end up returning Michigan to mediocrity. I hope I am wrong but I see Michigan going 9-3 next year and Moore getting fired within four years.
Michigan is putting Moore a man with only four games experience and even then just coaching on game day in a position to fail. This doesn't help Moore or Michigan.
I have re-watched game film of the last five games and I had to fast forward because the offense did much of nothing for large portions of the game. The Alabama game nearly ended in defeat and Washington was allowed to hang around because the offense did nothing in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We were able to over come this because we had Harbaugh, now everyone here expects the same results with a man who has virtually no head coaching experience.
I for see this what I will call an experiment ending badly.
January 26th, 2024 at 12:59 PM ^
Sigh.
January 26th, 2024 at 10:28 AM ^
Hopefully we can quickly and effectively close this out, retain Herbert and as many coaches as possible, flesh out the rest of the staff (e.g., DC) and move on to the business of defending the title against a relatively tough schedule.
but perhaps we will make it harder than it needs to be
January 26th, 2024 at 11:04 AM ^
Herbert will play a critical role with the Chargers next year.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
Yes. He's the quarterback.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
There is a strict 1 Herbert per team limit, guess Ben has to stay at Michigan.
January 26th, 2024 at 11:37 AM ^
The Chargers are just following the steps of another ancient and revered order...
January 26th, 2024 at 11:28 AM ^
No S&C coach in NFL history has ever been "critical" to anything.
