Post game tailgating.. in…

Post game tailgating.. in warmer weather… with sunlight..  Let the traffic die down gradually.. and use the two “post game hours” which you’re allowed to reflect on the game - catch up a bit more with friends - break down your setup - etc..

I enjoy 3:30 games in September for those reasons.

Both women’s tennis and…

Both women’s tennis and lacrosse defeated the Irish…

Oh .. what a fine thing to happen..

Go Blue!

It sounds like time to plan…

It sounds like time to plan for that first tailgate - and - I assume - parking lots will open at noon...

Tom Brady - 35 Rushing TD's …

Tom Brady - 35 Rushing TD's - Are you sure?   It looks like 28 rushing TDs to me - still that figure suprised me.

Some other TB12 stats - two punts - for an average of 34 yards / punt.

Grossly under-rated as a receiver.   Yes - he's average "Yards per catch" - as a RECEIVER - is 21.7 yards.   Of course, the number of receptions is "low" - with a total of three (3) receptions over his career.

And - there's another often overlooked aspect of his performance - defense.  Yes - Tom has 14 TACKLES over his career - all solo tackles - no assists.

The second playoff matchup…

The second playoff matchup between BC and Michigan in (about) two months.

Mrs. Amazinblu is a BC alum.   Our daughter (who is home for about ten days before returning to A2 to continue her research this summer) - was offered Admission to both BC and Michigan - deciding to enroll at Michigan - will be cheering against Mom on Thursday afternoon.

Chestnut Hill - and Alumni Stadium - BC’s location and sports venue - will provide an advantage for the Eagles.  However, our women’s lacrosse team seemed to play well in South Bend.  Let’s sustain the momentum and quality of play…

Go Blue!

Wendy..

Wishing you a (belated) Happy Mother’s Day.  I hope it was a lot of fun.

Go Blue!

The description of point…

The description of point guard capabilities / characteristics was especially refreshing.

As well as the “set” of skillsets / abilities which I would describe as complimentary.

I have no idea what their record will be - but, the direction looks great.  It’s going to be fun to watch them play.

Could there be a bit of…

Could there be a bit of hyperbole associated with this?

According to the article - May and his staff are only “eight for eight” with players they focused on going after.. to schedule an OV .. beginning with (of all things) a transcript - which resulted in a commitment.

I would love to have a video…

I would love to have a video.. or just audio.. recording - of the conversation between Beilein, May, and Warde during the interview process.

Visit.. and give her a hug……

Visit.. and give her a hug… let her “let go” first…

One thing that was mentioned…

One thing that was mentioned is… the NIL cost for the team.. between $13 and 15 million.

That’s not scholarship cost… that’s cash to attract players.. to play for the scarlet and gray.

My guess.. it was more than $15M - but, they don’t want to admit it…

Mercenaries from everywhere… and, they still believe QB play was the reason they lost.

How many times did OSU’s D stop Michigan’s offense in the second half?

This is a key aspect of the…

This is a key aspect of the rule for video.  Essentially - games can be video taped / recorded - but, they CANNOT be sold at a significant cost.  Essentially - videos can be acquired for a nominal cost - such as postage - within the rules.

So, if I recorded a game - anyone can acquire a copy - but - I cannot charge a significant amount - to ensure the playing field is level - and cost is not prohibitive for “less well funded” schools to acquire a copy.

Exactly… a Michigan win…

Exactly… a Michigan win.. last second.. in South Bend.. over the Irish… as good as it gets…. (The only comparisons are a similar feat.. in East Lansing or Columbus.)

I agree wholeheartedly.   I…

I agree wholeheartedly.   I wish Scott Frost was still in Lincoln - and, of course, that Mel was on the MSU sideline.

When .. in the last decade …

When .. in the last decade .. did the Buckeyes have a roster with “total team talent” lower than fifth?   How many times in the last decade has their talent level been “worse than third” in the country?

One could say - very few teams, if any - “Do less with more” - than the squad in Columbus.

P.S. - the answer to the two questions I posed?  Zero and once - in 2016.   Yes, the Buckeyes have not had a season in the last decade with overall team talent lower than fifth.  And, their talent level has only been lower than third once in the last decade - it occurred for the 2016 season.

And - P.S.S. - How many national championships has O$U won in the last 50 years?   The answer is two.  That’s the same number as Michigan has won.

Mothers.. humanity wouldn’t…

Mothers.. humanity wouldn’t exist without them.

I’m the father of two.. a son and daughter.. twins - who just turned 21.  They’ll be starting their senior year at Michigan.

Though I hope I “did my part” in raising them - I usually say.. “It was only about 99 3/4%” of mom’s influence.

Wishing one and all - a very Happy Mother’s Day..  Go Blue!

A bit of a tangent.  I was…

A bit of a tangent.  I was thinking "Heisman Trophy" promotion - and which teams throw their marketing prowess behind a player for the Heisman.

Since 2000 - there have only been four players - who were not QB's - that won the award.  Of those four - three were RB's and one was a WR.   So, the Heisman is basically a QB award - and seven of the last eight recipients were QBs.

So - what's my thought.   Could Donovan "make a run for it"?   Both literally and figuratively.

It seems the culture is very Team oriented - which I believe is fantastic.  And, though The Don may be RB #1 in the position group - there are a number of games where his play in the second half will be limited (or - he may not play at all).

We'll see what happens.  Regardless, I'll be cheering for him throughout the season.

Go Blue!

This could be an especially…

This could be an especially exciting and busy weekend for Michigan Athletics.

Women's Tennis.  Softball.  Men's Lacrosse.  B1G Track & Field Championship.  Baseball.

Enjoy...

Go Blue!

Respectfully - do you follow…

Respectfully - do you follow college football closely?

The Buckeyes OOC - all three games at home - is a Murderer's Row - great history - tradition - and excellence on the field.  Creative schemes - tough all around.   Yes - those three - Akron, Western Michigan, a bye week to recover from those first two - and Marshall.

I doubt any of those three will field a "ten man" defense at a critical point in the game.

Gene Smith.   The last time…

Gene Smith.   The last time he said something intelligent and that I respected was...

Hmmm... it hasn't happened.   And, with his retirement, I doubt it will ever occur.

Prior to The Game - Urban…

Prior to The Game - Urban Meyer said: 'Ohio State will stop the run game.'

Donovan Edwards (after the game): 'And I took that personally.'

https://youtu.be/JImnLGnlZGs - the video is one minute five seconds long - and, never gets old.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvd6nzDPv5I - and, if you prefer the "two-fer" - this highlights his two fourth quarter TD runs - it's sixty one seconds in length.

Columbus - The Game - fourth quarter - The Don... I believe he rushed for 210 yards in the second half.

Go Blue!

Prayers for him and his…

Prayers for him and his family.   Go Blue!

Thanks for the correction. …

Thanks for the correction.  I was at the B1G Tourney web site - and, it listed 6:30 pm.   Again - thanks for clarifying.   The good news is - the weather looks good too - so, rain shouldn't impact the schedule.

The women play Wisconsin -…

The women play Wisconsin - first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm.  The game will be broadcasted on BTN.

A lot of fans think the problem with their football team was their QB.

Don’t go changing…

The tourney is being played in Iowa City..

Go Blue!

Are you suggesting that…

Are you suggesting that Kevin Warren should have told his son … “I’m glad you enjoy playing football - but, with my role in the B1G conference - it would be better if you transferred to a school that was not in the B1G to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest.”

Yeah.. that would be logical - reflecting intelligence and sportsmanship.  That’s probably why it never occurred to Warren to say.

Do you have a preference for…

Do you have a preference for kickoff times?

I enjoy tailgating - a lot.  We’re in the lot and setting up as soon as the lot opens - so, depending on kickoff time - it could be a long day.

3:30 starts - especially in September - are fantastic. A long day of tailgating - warm weather - and, time after the game to continue the festivities - let the traffic die down - and enjoy it with a bit of evening sunshine and comfortable temperatures.  Night games in September can be fun too.. though, the post game festivities really don’t take place.

Mid-October and later.. my preference is… “not night”… noon / 3:30’s give plenty of time to enjoy everything.

For the West Coast matchups - It seems to me that 3:30 pm EDT kickoffs make the most sense - for players and fans.   It will be interesting to see what actually happens.

NF - thanks.   My personal…

NF - thanks.

My personal view is - it’s so unfortunate.  The White Out (TM) creates a significant advantage for PSU - and, you want / need that advantage when you can capitalize on it.

I’m too idealistic - and - wish for those “days of yore”.  The media dollars drive it all.

I would believe that if Penn…

I would believe that if Penn State "had their choice" - that the November 2nd game - PSU hosting OSU - would be a night game - "White Out" - etc..    But, what say does any team / athletic department have in determing the kickoff time for a game?

It seems like - "very little to none".

You seem pretty good at this…

You seem pretty good at this - anything else you can share some insight about?

It adds up perfectly.   …

It adds up perfectly.

Have you ever attended a school in Ohio?   If so - you'd understand this.

Just look at the spelling... 0 .. High... 0...  Yes - begin with a zero - and end with a zero - and get high in-between.  Is it 4:20?

One of many reasons why the Michigan Marching Band had to teach the Ohio Band how to perform their signature formation - "Script Ohio".

Here's the home schedule…

Here's the home schedule... let's see...

  • August 31st: Fresno State
  • September 7th: Texas - Big Noon - already announced
  • September 14th: Arkansas State
  • September 21st: USC - possible night game
  • September 28th: Minnesota
  • October 26th: Michigan State
  • November 2nd: Oregon - possible night game
  • November 23rd: Northwestern
I can say with complete…

I can say with complete sincerity - I applaud Jesse Owens not only for his accomplishment - but for how he conducted himself (in Berlin).

So - recognizing his accomplishment is something I'm glad to do - with much respect.

Now - is there another Buckeye that deserves our respect and admiration?   I can't think of one - can you?

What did Washington retain…

What did Washington retain from last year?

An excellent head coach is - gone.   A very good QB is - gone.   Their receiving corps - lost at least two superb WRs to the draft.

I wonder how long of year it's going to be in Seattle this year.

Nittany - with all due…

Nittany - with all due respect - Do you find some of Franklin's "in game" decisions befuddling?

The call that I found most interesting was against Ohio State - in the Shoe -this past season.  It was a one score game - in the fourth quarter - PSU had the ball - in their own half of the field - with down & distance of about 4th & 4.  I think about six / seven minutes left in the game.   PSU was struggling running the ball.    Franklin decides to go for it.   What happens?   The Buckeyes stop - get the ball on downs - and - a one score games turns into a two score game - late in the fourth quarter.

I realize hindsight is 20/20 - but, in that situation - it seemed like the better call was - "punt the ball - have your D force a three & out - and, see if you can score on your next / last possession."

What do you think?

The Buckeyes host Akron in…

The Buckeyes host Akron in the Shoe for the opener.   Will history repeat itself?

Last year - the '23 season -…

Last year - the '23 season - the three teams you noted - Georgia, Bama, and Ohio State - were all top four teams - in both the Coaches and AP's pre-season polls.   Michigan was second in both polls.

I have this inkling that…

I have this inkling that there are "more than a few" LSU alumni involved in the energy sector - and what it produces in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico.

I'm wondering whether media…

I'm wondering whether media revenue sharing is part of the scope of her efforts.

Though the B1G schools receive a significant sum for the conference media agreement - it also seems like those funds are committed to infrastructure improvements, coaches salaries, etc.

The USA today published a list of colleges / universities with the amount of money each athletic department brings in - and, their expenses - the information was updated in March of this year.   Here's a link to the list: https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances.  Private schools did not report their figures - so, there's no data on Northwestern or Southern Cal.

Ohio State leads the list with revenues of $ 251M, and expenses of $ 225M.   Michigan is fourth in country, and second in the B1G with $ 210M in revenue and expenses of $ 193M.  Suprisingly, to me - Indiana is the most profitable Athletic Department in the conference with an estimated $ 34M in profit (if the "Revenue - Expense" approach is used to calculate profit - those are the only two figures available).   Of the current conference members - only Rutgers and Maryland appear to be operating at a loss.

Looking at the Pac-12, data is only available for ten schools (USC and Stanford - private institutions - are not included).   Six of the ten Pac-12 schools are operating at a loss.   Since data for USC is not included - of the three other Pac-12 schools joining the B1G - two are operating at a loss - Washington and UCLA, with Oregon being the lone "money maker".

What's my piont in this?   The above figures should be inclusive of media agreements - and - if media monies were to be distributed - what would that mean to the "average" student athlete at a school?   If Michigan's Athletic Department profit (about $ 17M) was to be equally distribruted to all (approximately 800) student athletes - that would equate to just over $ 21K / student athlete.   Certainly nothing to look over - but, not quite the millions in NIL monies certain athletes are reportedly receiving.

St Louis has the Blues and…

St Louis has the Blues and Cardinals.  KC has the Royals and Chiefs.  I believe they both have MLS teams today too.  So - it's not quite as notable as some of those other states.

For football - "in season" - competition - it's the Chiefs - which is a strong franchise - but - on the far western part of the state.

Very fair point.   My "gut"…

Very fair point.   My "gut" says - that Dusty's familiarity with the college landscape is beneficial - he's thought through his approach - and - he has an understanding of how dynamic the college game is these days - with the portal, NIL, etc.

Several years ago - I wished Juwan well - and, I still do.  As a fan and alum - it's good to see the start Dusty has.  And, I hope it results in dividends for the program.

Go Blue!

This will be interesting.  I…

This will be interesting.  I’m thinking of the available markets for advertising and player sponsors.

In several SEC states - there is no competition with professional sports because there are no professional sports teams in the state - such as South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama,  Arkansas, and now - Oklahoma.  I think Missouri doesn’t have much either.

So - can she develop the right degree of confidence & interest with firms that  would find a relationship with current Michigan players to be more leverage-able than the Pistons / Lions / Wings / Tigers?

I hope she’s incredibly successful and effective.

“Attracting players to LSU?…

“Attracting players to LSU?”

Have you checked out the ranking of their College of Engineering?  It’s disappointing that Michigan doesn’t rank higher academically.

Has Harbaugh ever talked about eggs as part of his diet?

I just thought - with all those chickens - high production - etc. - that eggs must be part of the equation.
