Penn State's home jerseys are blue. They wear all white on the road.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
If the home team wears a colored jersey--PSU is presumably wearing their blue jerseys on Saturday--then the visiting team has to obtain written permission from the home team to wear a colored jersey in the game.
If Michigan wore their yellow jerseys anyway, they'd be charged a timeout at the beginning of each quarter, and a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:48 PM ^
Is that really the penalty? Wow.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
Yes. Abilene Christian was called for it earlier this year because they wore light grey uniforms on the road.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
simple solution (even though i can't stand the all-maize look):
get up by, say, 40 points at the end of the first half and come out with all-maize in the 2nd half, not worried about PSU getting back in the game with a penalty or a missed T.O.

Found this from a 2018 FAQ from the NCAA regarding uniforms.
9. What are the rules about jersey colors for opposing teams?
By rule the visiting team must wear white jerseys. This means white, which does not include light gray, pale yellow, etc. The home team may wear white, but only if they get written agreement with the visiting team before the season starts (Rule 1-4-5-b).
10. Is it possible for the visiting team to wear their home (colored) jerseys?
This is possible, under these conditions (Rule 1-4-5-b): • The home team must agree in writing before the game. • The home team’s conference must certify that the color of the visiting team’s jersey is in contrast with that of the home team. • If the visiting team wears colored jerseys without meeting these conditions, it is assessed a 15-yard penalty before the first play from scrimmage after the opening kickoff in each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.
Wow. Those are some stiff penalties for noncompliance as well.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
I think this rule should be amended when the home team is using their crowd to purposefully make it hard to see the visiting team players in contrast (as in a white out game, or in this case the “helmet stripe” game since they aren’t apparently allowed to have more than one white out game legally)
November 12th, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
Those penalties don't seem all that bad. Maybe we should "invest" in them and wear our blue jerseys with white pants so we look just like Penn State. Confuse the hell out of Clifford, who can be erratic at times.
You can't hit Dotson if you can't find him.

All the more reason to get on the “fuck those guys” bandwagon. Load up, let’s roll!!
November 12th, 2021 at 3:31 PM ^
Michigan Ohio State Maize* & Blue vs. Scarlett & Grey game is all I care about. Let's get it done!
*pants
November 12th, 2021 at 3:36 PM ^
UCLA and USC do it for their big game and it looks awesome. We 100% should do it too. Just look at it:
November 12th, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
Sorry no, again they share the same city, UM and OSU do not. There has been enough red in the Big House in recent years, no UM fan needs to see OSU in home unis on top of that.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
I agree - this should be a thing. Red vs Blue each year, regardless of which Stadium.
Some silly billy's will say no, but they are wrong.
:)
November 12th, 2021 at 4:36 PM ^
agree, it would be cool to always have the Home Uni's for OSU
November 13th, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
Look there's no need to resort to profanity
November 12th, 2021 at 4:54 PM ^
Michigan blue versus Ohio State scarlet would be an authentic throwback.
That is how Michigan - Ohio State used to do it until the mid-fifties, when black and white TV forced white versus color for necessary contrast.
We have color TV now. Go back to color versus color.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:33 PM ^
First of all. . . rumor? Why would PSU have any say in what road unis we wear? This one needs some buttressing before I freak.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
It is an NCAA rule that any team wishing to break from the traditional colors at home or white on the road has to get written permission from the other team. PSU can block it for any reason they want.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:34 PM ^
Are we mad in a "don't tell us what to do" sort of way? I'd rather not see all-maize, but I'm 52 and think that baseball players should still rock the stirrups.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:35 PM ^
Good, petty sure, but in this case I will thank PSU for the pettiness. All blue and blue pants on the road are cool, but all maize is asking for my eyes to bleed. Just rock the superstition and wear the uniform combo from the Wisky win.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:40 PM ^
The all Maize look is fire. It's also great for recruiting.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:41 PM ^
Once again, it tickles me how much big bad tough guys care about fashion.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:44 PM ^
they are grasping for straws.... good, I hope we now wear the white with blue pants.
November 12th, 2021 at 3:48 PM ^
Franklin and PSU do this petty shit all the time. Franklin is the most notorious negative recruiter and lier in the B1G so this par for the course
November 12th, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
Is it okay for us to wear the blue pants then? Fuck em
November 12th, 2021 at 3:50 PM ^
Let's go with all black with matte black and maize helmet. Guaranteed W
November 12th, 2021 at 3:51 PM ^
They're just jealous of our helmets.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Why do something petty to piss off your opponent while appeasing the opponent's fanbase. Based on the other posts, that's what they did.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
Well at 3.2 yards per rushing attempt on the season, they haven't blocked anything all year, obviously. So congrats on this effort, I guess.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:56 PM ^
Brilliant.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
They can't really "Block" it. I believe It would cost us a TO each half it we told them to fuck off and did it anyhow tho
November 12th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
True they cannot block, but the rule actually just got stiffer in 2020. Now the penalty for a team not complying with the jersey rule (i.e., legal and contrasting numbers or a colored jersey in violation of the rule) will be a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.
Losing 4 timeouts would be expensive.
November 12th, 2021 at 7:17 PM ^
Would the officals call for a video review?
November 12th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
should have worn them against Sparty. Easier to spot the holding penalties
November 12th, 2021 at 4:59 PM ^
Hutchinson's jersey should just have a bunch of hands printed all over it.
Save time.
November 12th, 2021 at 6:54 PM ^
By rule. any gloves worn must be of a color that contrasts with the color of the opponent's jersey. Before the rule, teams used to wear gloves that would blend in to make holding easier.
November 12th, 2021 at 7:18 PM ^
Didn't stop sparty, didn't help the officals.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
Ped State U wanted to win something this weekend. They played the uniform trump card on the first trick knowing its the only trick they are going to take this weekend. Let them have their moment before the fall...
November 12th, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
Well, piss on them.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Per NCAA rules, we would have had to have asked and received written agreement before the season began to wear anything other than white jerseys.
As well, the penalty for a team not complying with the jersey rule (i.e., legal and contrasting numbers or a colored jersey in violation of the rule) will be a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
"a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter"
So does that handicap us fairly for the inevitable Frames Janklin-isms?
November 12th, 2021 at 4:34 PM ^
I am fine never seeing the maize pants on the road again. They are cursed.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:38 PM ^
All Maize? Ugh, why?
Alternate unis every now and again are fine, but doing it just for the sake of doing it really doesn't move the needle for me. Michigan is not Oregon.
Besides, I went to that game in Arlington when they wore those unis against Florida. I'm happy they won that day so I'm quick to forget that they were worn, but I thought they were almost as bad as the MSU bumblebee uniforms from 2011.
November 13th, 2021 at 12:04 AM ^
Not even close.
And the home bumblebees were fine.
It was the away version that was the worst uniform in the history of Michigan football.
Followed by the maize numbers on the white unis in the Smith/Clowney bowl game.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
Awesome. Give the boys a little extra juice to come out and kick some Nittany tail.
November 12th, 2021 at 4:56 PM ^
Maize uniforms suck
November 12th, 2021 at 5:03 PM ^
Good. Those all maize uniforms are hideous.
November 12th, 2021 at 5:16 PM ^
If this is true then they did us a favor.
November 12th, 2021 at 6:37 PM ^
Soooo why can’t we do both home uniforms every year vs OSU?
November 12th, 2021 at 6:40 PM ^
I don’t really believe this, and even if it were true that Michigan wanted to wear maize (which is a bad idea), it wouldn’t be a matter of “blocking.” The standard rules apply to uniform usage: one team wears “color,” and one team wears white, and any exception is jointly agreed upon and requested by both teams. If Michigan was interested in wearing maize and PSU wasn’t interested in a color vs color matchup, tough rocks for Michigan.
So this is definitely much ado about nothing, either way.
