PSU blocked maize uniforms for tomorrow.....

Rumor has it we were suppose to wear all maize and psu blocked it. This is the kind of pettiness I am here for. Beat Penn State.

If the home team wears a colored jersey--PSU is presumably wearing their blue jerseys on Saturday--then the visiting team has to obtain written permission from the home team to wear a colored jersey in the game.

If Michigan wore their yellow jerseys anyway, they'd be charged a timeout at the beginning of each quarter, and a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half.

Found this from a 2018 FAQ from the NCAA regarding uniforms.

9. What are the rules about jersey colors for opposing teams?

By rule the visiting team must wear white jerseys. This means white, which does not include light gray, pale yellow, etc. The home team may wear white, but only if they get written agreement with the visiting team before the season starts (Rule 1-4-5-b).

10. Is it possible for the visiting team to wear their home (colored) jerseys?

This is possible, under these conditions (Rule 1-4-5-b): • The home team must agree in writing before the game. • The home team’s conference must certify that the color of the visiting team’s jersey is in contrast with that of the home team. • If the visiting team wears colored jerseys without meeting these conditions, it is assessed a 15-yard penalty before the first play from scrimmage after the opening kickoff in each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.

Wow.  Those are some stiff penalties for noncompliance as well.

I think this rule should be amended when the home team is using their crowd to purposefully make it hard to see the visiting team players in contrast (as in a white out game, or in this case the “helmet stripe” game since they aren’t apparently allowed to have more than one white out game legally)

Michigan blue versus Ohio State scarlet would be an authentic throwback.

That is how Michigan - Ohio State used to do it until the mid-fifties, when black and white TV forced white versus color for necessary contrast.

We have color TV now.  Go back to color versus color.

Good, petty sure, but in this case I will thank PSU for the pettiness. All blue and blue pants on the road are cool, but all maize is asking for my eyes to bleed. Just rock the superstition and wear the uniform combo from the Wisky win.

Franklin and PSU do this petty shit all the time. Franklin is the most notorious negative recruiter and lier in the B1G so this par for the course

True they cannot block, but the rule actually just got stiffer in 2020.  Now the penalty for a team not complying with the jersey rule (i.e., legal and contrasting numbers or a colored jersey in violation of the rule) will be a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.

Losing 4 timeouts would be expensive.

Ped State U wanted to win something this weekend. They played the uniform trump card on the first trick knowing its the only trick they are going to take this weekend. Let them have their moment before the fall...

Per NCAA rules, we would have had to have asked and received written agreement before the season began to wear anything other than white jerseys.

As well, the penalty for a team not complying with the jersey rule (i.e., legal and contrasting numbers or a colored jersey in violation of the rule) will be a 15-yard penalty after the kickoff of each half and the loss of a timeout in each quarter that illegal jerseys are worn.

All Maize? Ugh, why?

Alternate unis every now and again are fine, but doing it just for the sake of doing it really doesn't move the needle for me. Michigan is not Oregon.

Besides, I went to that game in Arlington when they wore those unis against Florida. I'm happy they won that day so I'm quick to forget that they were worn, but I thought they were almost as bad as the MSU bumblebee uniforms from 2011.

I don’t really believe this, and even if it were true that Michigan wanted to wear maize (which is a bad idea), it wouldn’t be a matter of “blocking.” The standard rules apply to uniform usage: one team wears “color,” and one team wears white, and any exception is jointly agreed upon and requested by both teams. If Michigan was interested in wearing maize and PSU wasn’t interested in a color vs color matchup, tough rocks for Michigan.

So this is definitely much ado about nothing, either way.
