ken holland did great things in the past but i feel the game has passed him by and he needs to step down. can't keep banking on past success.
They signed their core of the glory days to long term deals and now those players are old and not as effective anymore. And Datsyuk leaving didn’t help either.
I’d wait to see what he can do when he gets some extra cap space to work with. Unfortunately Zett still has 4 years left and Nielsen has 5.
the wings tend to keep the old guys around a little too long and pay the price when they just can't compete with 20-somethings who are killing it. not everyone can be as effective in the downswing of their career as lidstrom.
The Blackhawks have had a shit ton of success in this decade. I'd be fine with 3-5 years of turnover knowing we've won a zillion Cups and had a lot of good times.
The Wings have been lifeless for awhile.
At least in Chicago it was the core of a glory days team. Holland spent the last few years signing role players like Helm, Abdelkader, and DeKeyser to massive deals for the rest of eternity.
Look at Scotty Bowman, in his 80's still a senior advisor for the Black Hawks, game has certainly not passed him by, must be his love of the sport. Was also just watching something on Federer, another guy who could have retired long ago but his passion keeps him reaching for new goals.
3 star DE recruit out of Canada
He may be a 2 star, but in RichRod's system, he is an 11 star! Just wait!!!
exactly.
Can we officailly start calling them the "Dead Things" again now?
Is what it is, hope he fixes things but I’m not confident....
Are some of the most backwards-thinking organizations.
Red Wings are extending a GM that hasn't steered the team to a series win in what, a decade? And consistently overpaying and oversigning guys that clearly don't deserve it.
Pistons are stuck on the wheel of medicority because they just don't have the foresight to actually go through the normal channels of rebuilding in the NBA. Instead, they are sastified with finishing 8th-11th and landing picks between 12-15.
Lions are the Lions.
The Tigers are really the only team that are doing this rebuilding the right way.
MLB rebuilds can be as short as 3-5 years. E.g. Cubs, Astros and possibly the Phillies. But the commitment from mgmt has to be there to trade anyone/everyone to get high draft picks - and draft the right guys - and avoid long-term contracts until the time is right.
what does the tiger farm system look like? are there any good prospects? dodgers have been really developing their farm system for the last ten years and have brought up some great talent.
Bring Back Yzerman
would yzerman leave tampa? he's got a good gig down there.
He's a Detroit sports legend plus the wangs are an iconic franchise. I think that's a good reason to come back
Maybe it was buried with him?
We all know what Ken Holland brings to the table. I think a lot of his bad decisions have been influenced, at least in part, by ownership. Chris Illitch is ok with .500 hockey, "I like my team", sneaking into the playoffs where you never know what can happen" and overall mediocrity. All of the empty seats in the brand new pizzarena should be an indication of how the fans feel about the direction of the Wings.
I hope I'm wrong but this is really depressing.
Joe Dumars was once a really good GM as well.
Maybe we should bring him back too.
Ken Holland is Russ Thomas.
