It's not there anymore, but I screenshot someone's Ohio Stadium edit.

Big 12 was never going to…

Big 12 was never going to get close to SEC/B1G numbers. They just don't have enough national brand programs, and their regional population footprint is pretty small compared to other major conferences.

That being said, they did a really good job getting these numbers, and are sitting pretty as long as they are content with being no.3. PAC-12 is in danger of losing Oregon and Washington, and ACC will eventually get poached in the 2030's.

Nobody is poaching Big12 programs for now, it's an entertaining conference with parity, and their media deal is structured so that they can get more money if they poach on PAC12 scraps.

Pigrome once accounted for…

Pigrome once accounted for three touchdowns against Texas, in 2017.

Tyrrell Pigrome has one more…

Tyrrell Pigrome has one more season of eligibility with Towson.

Yes, I'm talking about formerly of Maryland Tyrrell Pigrome.

To be fair, almost no one…

To be fair, almost no one ends consistently Urban Meyer good except for Bama and Clemson.

If you compare the two…

If you compare the two programs between 2011-21, Texas probably has the higher highs. But they definitely have the lower lows between losing to Kansas and agreeing to joining the SEC despite being mediocre.

Oklahoma's DLine is legit…

Oklahoma's DLine is legit good. There are two guys who could go in rounds 1-2 this year.

The problem OU has been having is that their linebackers miss a lot of tackles and the DBs have some injury problems, which is a problem when you weren't deep to begin with.

I feel like this is going to…

I feel like this is going to be a strange recruiting year for every team. With Covid disrupting a lot of these guys junior seasons as well as camp travel, I think you will see a lot of recruiting misses, both from coaches and recruiting sites.

Doesn't cure it, but it…

Doesn't cure it, but it could actually prevent it as some studies are showing a link between having Covid-19 and developing ED.

I could be wrong, but from…

I could be wrong, but from what I've seen, it was two unvaccinated players that tested positive, putting almost all of the other unvaccinated players into contract tracing, which turned out was more than half of the team.

Because of the whole cluster fuck, NCAA then decided to test the vaccinated players, and 4 came back positive, all four are asymptomatic.

Its not a bad thing to keep…

Its not a bad thing to keep winning at this point. The draft this year is very week at the top, and there are no clear elite, franchise altering players like a Hughes, Lafreniere, Matthews, ect. Might as well win some games and get some of the younger guys used to playing winning hockey.

I'm in my late 20's and my…

I'm in my late 20's and my loans are pretty much paid off. I was pretty aggressive with paying them off early on, including getting scholarships, saying no to more expensive schools, working weekdays and weekends during school, taking a gap year to save more money, and then when I graduated, I took a better job a couple thousand miles away to pay them off faster. Now that they are paid off, I'm starting to be at the point where I can dip my toes into the bonkers housing market thats out there. I worked my ass off to get to that point, and I'm going to lose my mind if I then have to immediatly compete with all those that got their loans forgiven for the small amount of houses.

We should do something about loans, but we can't screw over others to do it.

I'm in my late 20's and I…

I'm in my late 20's and I feel pretty damn screwed as well.

Fellow Seattle area person…

Fellow Seattle area person here. Housing is insane right now, and there is no such thing as a starter home anymore unless you work in tech. I'm about 2-4 years away from a house, and I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll only be able to choose two of the three between Nice house, financial flexibility, and near the Seattle area.

People forget, Haskins…

People forget, Haskins seemingly put that Ohio State team on his back at times that year. Fields supporting cast is a lot better then Haskins cast was.

Avengers Endgame was a more…

Avengers Endgame was a more realistic movie then Draft Day.

That being said, if a Heisman winning QB didn't have any of his teammates come to his birthday party, that would be a pretty decent red flag.

You can't ignore the fact…

You can't ignore the fact that there is one very noticable difference between the two guys, and that difference to apparent to even the average person:

Fields is a transfer QB. He didn't want to wait his turn and compete for the job.

Jones sat behind Tua and Hurts and waited his turn.

What other differences are there?

My company just adopted a…

My company just adopted a work some days in the office, some at home policy. However had they adopted 100% WFH, I would immediately jump onto a flight back to Michigan.

No offense, but I don't see…

No offense, but I don't see how those "hey do you have a minute" interactions can't happen over Zoom.

There is going to be a…

There is going to be a minimum impact on Michigan. Sure some Michiganders might leave because WFH let's them, but Michigan isn't the only state seeing WFH changes. In fact, most of the West Coast is starting to  adopt it (except my company which is only going to allow WFH on some days each week).

With the amount of Michigan transplants out there, WFH will allow a lot of people to move back to Michigan.

Carr: "Hey I just got a…

Carr: "Hey I just got a recruitment text from Michigan. It said 'Come to Michigan where you can really tackle the competition' signed, Coach JH."

I live outside of Seattle…

I live outside of Seattle and was really looking forward to that game.

This is why you always wear…

This is why you always wear socks. They serve as an OK emergency toilet paper option wherever you go.

BLM protests were just…

BLM protests were just poorly executed protest. Whats happening in DC is literally a coup attempt. BLM never tried to overthrow democracy.

He didn't come from OU, in…

He didn't come from OU, in fact he's never coached at OU.

He PLAYED at OU, and is from nearby Kansas. He last coached at CMU

So he could go to OU for several reasons:

  • Closer to family
  • Program closer to the playoffs and likely has better job security
  • OU could give him another title on top of TE duties, like Assistant ST coach. It doesn't matter, The position OU is hiring for is basically a glorified recruiter
The guy is super old, and…

The guy is super old, and hasn't been able to adapt well to the drastic changes CFB has undergone as of late. This tends to happen a lot with "old school" coaching types once they get around their mid 50's.

Also, Kansas is a dumpster fire, and not many coaches could have success there quickly. Charlie Weiss really did a number on that program by pretty much ignoring non juco recruits, and the next coach didn't pan out.

I actually think he could…

I actually think he could stick on the team. He wouldn't be good, but he has enough speed and defense to serve as an extra/late inning replacement. He's basically a more talented Derek Hill with home run power.

The Phillies minor league…

The Phillies minor league system is already a bit of a dumpster fire.

I see the types of coaching…

I see the types of coaching a little bit differently. I see it in the form of coaching attributes:

-Recruiting skill: How good can you recruit/surround yourself with good recruiters/evaluators
-Program Culture Leadership: How well can you establish a program culture, discipline, NCAA rule and academic compliance. How well can you inspire. How efficient are your practices, ect.
-Staff Builder: How well can you keep, develop, identify, motivate, and hire quality assistants.
-In Game Coaching: Whether thats calling plays, clock management, knowing when to bench someone, ect.

Proficient at 1 of the 4: You are an assistant coach
Proficient at 2 of the 4: You are a good assistant coach, or a G5 coach
Proficient at 3 of the 4: You are a P5 coach
Proficient at 4 of the 4: You are an elite, Saban level coach

Now, if I could only take three of those four attributes, since elite level coaches don't grow on trees, give me Recruiting Skill, Program Culture Leadership, and Staff Building.

Yea no shit he's going to…

Yea no shit he's going to say this. Fucking any Athletic Director in his shoes is going to say this.

Let's put two and two together

1) Michigan is going to lose millions this year thanks to no fans

2) Having teams from your conference making the playoffs makes your Athletic Department more money

3) OSU is the league's best shot at the playoffs.

This isn't rocket science. He's there to manage money.

He's technically coaching…

He's technically coaching college football now. It doesn't mean he's wanting to be a head coach somewhere.

Age usually equals energy…

Age usually equals energy and shelf-life

If anyone doubts what fiery energy brings to your program, look at the difference in Michigan between intense 2015-2016 Harbaugh and 2017-present Harbaugh. Not to mention look at the Lincoln Riley, Ryan Day, and and Matt Campbell's of the world. All have been incredibly effective and all are under the age of 42.

CFB coaching is quickly becoming a younger man's game with the way recruiting is these days.

Now lets say Stoops is the Saban, Mack Brown level outlier. How many 70 year old coaches do you see out there? and of those coaches, how many have walked away from a national title contender because they lost the passion? Stoops wouldn't be around for a while, and what we have all found out is that replacing a coach isn't an easy thing to do. You would be back in the same shoes as you are in now.

Give me the young energetic guy thats going to be around for a while.

Warriner for sure.
Wouldn't…

Warriner for sure.

Wouldn't mind it if they kept Moore (good recruiter)

Also, people aren't going to like it because of his last name, but Jay Harbaugh has done a sneaky good job.

His good coaching eye has…

His good coaching eye has gotten inflated a bit because of the Lincoln Riley hiring. That was a grand slam in the strongest sense for sure, but some of his other hires before him were iffy at best.

The biggest knock was running Brent Venables out so that he could replace him with Mike Stoops, who ended up being the worst coordinator in the past five years of CFB.

I don't know if it was a…

I don't know if it was a temporary rule passed this year, but the NCAA has a rule that only current  athletic department employees can fill in for on field coaches in the case of Covid or other circumstances. Its meant for people like analysts. Stoops however, was given a cushy "special assistant" job the moment he retired a few years ago. Therefore, he's allowed to coach on a temporary basis.

Its a loophole in the sense that I don't think the NCAA planned on a athletic department having a HOF coach just casually hanging around.

In terms of your question,…

In terms of your question, No. Stoops is not, and will not get back into major CFB coaching on a long term basis.

The passion for on field coaching has never went away with Bob. Its the recruiting, booster politics, keeping your players out of trouble and going to classes, the traveling, the expectations, and the hours that Stoops has lost passion for. Coaching the local XFL team, and being an interim emergency coach allows him to scratch that itch without having to do all the other BS.

Not to mention, Stoops son plays for OU, and he's been pretty involved with other projects in and around the OKC area.

The only reason he's doing the interim coaching is because OU players and coaches have been devastated by Covid as of late (its rumored defense has had almost all of it outside of the HB) and Stoops is elgible to coach since he's already under athletic department contract (he's an AD "special assistant")

Also, why do people want Stoops? He's 60 and would be a short term option at best. You would be back in the same shoes you are in now very fast.

A) No
B) You might be fine…

A) No

B) You might be fine. If you alter the logo comically, spell it Loins, and use a slightly cartoonish font, you can make a case that its a parody, and there are trademark law protections for parodies. That being said, you very well may get the the NFL to try to bully you, but I'm willing to bet that they would just send you a cease and desist letter. If you push back and hold your ground, I'm willing to bet that they won't pursue legal action.

I totally get the COVID…

I totally get the COVID struggles, I really do. And if this was the only flawed season in an otherwise stellar era a Michigan, I would be on the forgiveness train.

But this is something every team has struggled with. In fact Oklahoma had an entire position group whiped out for most of their camp. There is nothing suggesting Michigan has been more effected by Covid than any other team.

Its also not an excuse for the lack of fire, passion, and energy both Harbaugh and the team have shown. Its also not an excuse for losing to MSU, and its not an excuse for why Ohio State has widened the gap against us with zero evidence its closing anytime soon.

I think coaches in general…

I think coaches in general are hard to find.

If you look at the 2014/2015 coaching hires, nearly all the big names either flopped or were disappointing. Harbaugh ended up being around the 4th best coach in that cycle, debatably ahead of Herman. The best coaches in that cycle were:

-A mediocre Pitt coach (Chryst who got hired at Wisconsin)
-A Kentucky Assistant Coach (Neal Brown hired at Troy and now at WV)
-A D3 coach (Lance Leiopold hired at Buffalo)

It allows millions of people…

It allows millions of people to retire or build up funds for very large purchases. Its not the end all be all, but its still very important.

Because there is almost no…

Because there is almost no reason for him to take this job. Yea he is underpaid there, but the Ducks would give him a raise if we started sniffing around.

The Tigers have actually…

The Tigers have actually been investing in analytics quite a bit since Avila took over. They are now in the top half of largest analytic departments in baseball, which is pretty impressive considering they had nothing with Dombrowski.

He's Babe Ruth except faster

He's Babe Ruth except faster

I get what you are saying…

I get what you are saying and I partially agree, although to clarify, he wasn't the leader of the scandal. According to MLB's own investigation, the leaders were the GM and Alex Cora. Hinch was more of a bystander, which don't get me wrong, isn't great, but this wasn't the mastermind behind the cheating.

Not to mention, the Tigers…

Not to mention, the Tigers completely overhauled their analytics team and system the moment Avila took over (overhauled probably isn't the best term considering their analytics team was like, one guy during the Dombroski era).

It takes awhile to incorporate analytics into baseball operations, and I don't think its a coincidence that Avila's worst moves came early on in his GM term.

The Pros:
On paper, this is…

The Pros:

On paper, this is a perfect fit for the Tigers. He at one point played for the Tigers, has front office experience working with the Padres, and took over the Astros when their rebuild was at a very similar spot to us. He is a good in game manager who has managed in major pressure filled spots during his career. He is proficient at using modern analytics and player evaluation.

The Cons:

He was the manager during the cheating scandal. According to the MLB report, he wasn't the ringleader of the scandal and more of a bystander. That was the GM and his bench coach Alex Cora. Hinch even went out of his way to express his displeasure over it including smashing several monitors. But at the same time, he didn't put an end to it, and there are some questions on if that was because he lost control over the lockeroom.

From what I understand, Hinch's role is kinda like a college basketball coach who knows his boosters and assistants are doing some shady shit with recruits behind their back, but doesn't put an end to it.

Some other school must have…

Some other school must have had their check bounce. Glad to get a five star on board.

If Ohio State has a loss and…

If Ohio State has a loss and we are undefeated heading into The Game, we should also choose not to play.

Why do people think OSU is…

Why do people think OSU is paying them? You don't think consistently putting corners into the NFL first round isn't going to have an effect on CB recruits?

That's like saying the only reason Oklahoma is getting 5 star QBs is because they are paying them.
