OT: New World Record in Super Mario Bros.
This is meant to be more lighthearted for those on the Board. Last week, Kosmic set a new world record for Super Mario Bros. speedrunner: 4 minutes, 56 seconds, and 462 miliseconds.
You can watch the video here:
full address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdrZXWmmvzw
When Kosmic started six years ago, it took him one hour, 10 minutes, and 18 seconds.
You can take a bit of a deeper dive on speedrunning at this article (LINK)
And here is a video of the history of World Record Progression: Super Mario Bros
My questions are: (1) what were your favorite video games when younger, and (2) what is your favorite video game now (if you have one)?

so we passed the time by running like hell from metal tipped jarts that rained from the sky.
These days, I like Counterstrike. It's the only reliable news source out there.

remember them fondly. Then we got pong as our video games and that was crazy times.
Today I love Call of Duty games and battlefront. I miss the old NCAA football though. Don't care much for Tom Clancy games anymore as they are riduclously hard.

My favorite game of all time is Super Mario Brothers 3 and NFL Gameday 99
Current favorite games are FIFA and COD WW2 but I suck at both , especially FIFA.

Never been a gamer. My friends used to play the Centipede outside the cafeteria in West Quad. Occasionally they'd like me take a turn just so they could laugh at how quickly I got killed.

On original NES. Played for hours over a period of many years; it never got old. I now have it in my basement as an arcade game - still not getting old.
As for the post, I have seen this video before, and it is worth the watch for the children of the 80s looking for some impressive nostalgia.

One of the cool things about Ocarina Of Time - rather, one of the uncounted cool things about it - was that if you collected certain items in a differing order, you actually could switch up the order of temples as Adult Link a little bit, even though that flexibility was rather limited. The newest Zelda game for the Switch is pretty non-linear - it's actually a great game, I think.

I LOVE Breath of the Wild. I don't have it myself, but my dad's gone and beat it like three times already. I sometimes play his game. I'll probably have to get a Switch just for that game. I might never actually beat it, I like just roaming around too much.

This is the only game that I can beat my teenage sons in. Everything else? I don't even bother as the humilation is too much.

I played the crud out of TSB.
As for today, the Japanese DS remake of Dragon Quest IV. It's the game I keep going back to when I need a break from reality but don't have the time or energy for a new learning curve. There's a U.S. version but the localization is downright terrible.
I don't play platformers anymore. Not enough time to get good at them.

I started with an Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 as a kid. My parents never got us the original NES, but I did have a game boy.
The Super Nintendo was our first new console and it was in my room during my formative years. I played the shit out of Super Mario World, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball, Bill Walsh College football, etc. I'd still rank Super Mario World as my all time favorite and I love playing it with my kids.

I love the speedrun community. It's competitive, it's generally lighthearted, and sometimes it does good for the community (see AGDQ/SGDQ where they raise millions for great foundations). To answer your questions:
1- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2- Over the last year or so, probably Horizon: Zero Dawn

HZD expansion pack frozen wilds is awesome. also love the assasins creed series

Since I am best in the world at Mario Kart 64 -- Princess Peach handles turns so nicely -- I guess that's the game I like most. When I was a kid, Oregon Trail, Dr. Sbaitso or whatever else the Commodore 64 served up was pretty cool.

NHL Hockey on Sega was game of games for its time!

Everything I know about hockey comes from that game. I don't follow it at all. I was amazed a few years ago to hear Teemu Selane was still in t he league, that guy was the shit in that game.

Madden 91 was the greatest. Thurman Thomas for the Bills was so much faster than most other players.
NHL 94. Can't forget that. Great graphics and way ahead of its time.
Tony Larussa baseball.
Those were the best sports games of my era. I played sporadically after that but not so much. Still enjoy playing the EA Sports games nowadays.

Tecmo Super Bowl. I got good enough that I could play a preseason game as the Bills and beat the Colts 103-0. The game can't handle three digit scores, though.
