I knew we had to expect it,…

I knew we had to expect it, but damn, it's astonishing how quickly this thing cratered to absolute zero so quickly. Of course, with the triple whammy of one-and-done talents, immediate transfers and NIL, this will always be looming over every program. At some point we'll see a team go from natty to an armagedon-level cratering like this within three years.

There's no use pining for the old days when these kids were indentured servants, but I pine for the old days, sort of.

You want to know how you're…

You want to know how you're an idiot? When you think that the guy who runs Tesla and SpaceX is an idiot. But, but..."if internet stories are to be believed." Sorry if he makes you feel smaller.

Job security move? Sherrone…

Job security move? Sherrone's just getting started here and Day will be out if the cooler poopers lose to Michigan again.

Best comp I've heard yet…

Best comp I've heard yet. They can both throw on the run, too.

1.  What is your favorite…

1.  What is your favorite James Bond movie? Skyfall. Recency bias and all, but Daniel Craig is the second best Bond (if you have to ask who's first, you're already losing), it's tougher to choose from all the Connery films. Goldfinger is likely runner up.

2.  Who (or what) is your favorite Super Hero? Ironman. I was never much of a comic book guy, so I base this solely on the Marvel movies and the superb performance by Robert Downey Jr. He elevates the role to a real character and not just a cartoon.

3.  Related to question 2, above, who (or what) is your favorite villain? Stanley Kowalski. I tried to think of reprehensible characters who you somehow find yourself rooting for. Marlon Brando's portrayal was so intense and magnetic that you find yourself drawn to him despite his brutish ways.

4.  True or False:  True. Since my philosophy has evolved to where I see that the world is but a flash of light against the backdrop of eternity, you may as well stop worrying, get living, and otherwise turn yourself about.

Yes, that's true! Probie was…

Yes, that's true! Probie was a pretty good hockey player, too. Great hands around the net.

I'm sure there were some…

I'm sure there were some fearsome fighters before Probert's time, but it's hard to believe that anyone was ever better. His era was likely the peak of the enforcer role and Probert was rarely if ever bested. A few guys gave him a good workout, but I don't ever recall him losing a fight outright. He had size, reach, leverage, and big hands, and he threw punches from the bottom of his shoes. He didn't mind getting hit, either. Just a straight up brawler. He's got the Belt, all time.

Some journalists are better…

Some journalists are better than others, but overall the adage remains true that you tend to believe any newspaper article except those that you actually have first-hand knowledge of. Most "news" is filled with errors, omissions and hyperbole--usually from laziness and/or the need to make the item more salacious and interesting to readers who thirst for such.

I'm buying all the "Ronnie…

I'm buying all the "Ronnie Bell but tall" smoke that you're selling.

I've been following some of…

I've been following some of these recent attempts by various countries to land a craft on the moon. Many of them have been unsuccessful. My overriding thought is that not only did a bunch of brush-cut, short-sleeve-wearing, slide rule dorks put multiple modules on the moon 50 FREAKING YEARS AGO, but they did it with men inside, and the men got out and walked around up there!

I seem to remember watching…

I seem to remember watching the game live in Detroit because we could grab the CBC feed with the rabbit ears from Windsor. Anyone else recall that? Did the CBC carry the game live?

We have a truly glorious…

We have a truly glorious opportunity here. The panicked delusion coming from Columbus is something that scientists can study for years if we can stretch this win streak to five, six or seven games. When there is no outlet for this kind of crazy, and all it can do is continue to stew upon itself for months and months on end, the results can go in a number of explosive directions. And I am popping the popcorn for it.

Yes, I'm about 20% into this…

Yes, I'm about 20% into this glorious podcast and they just brought up Freddie P Soft. Jim gave a  description, "about 4 inches tall, with a plume in his hat..."

Okay, but aside from the…

Okay, but aside from the Aquaduct, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Coaches under enormous…

Coaches under enormous pressure + mercenary players who are soft = recipe for disaster.

I concur. I think he's…

I concur. I think he's saying "I'll coach Michigan until I get an ideal NFL job." And I think if you're Michigan you take that deal and know this is going to happen every year. He's worth it.

I like the Gardner…

I like the Gardner comparison a lot, even the short-arm throwing motion. Similar athleticism.

Pink suit = New Money.

Pink suit = New Money.

Can't believe they would not…

Can't believe they would not have offered to move him back to WR given the lack of depth and not wanting to lose a guy with his athleticism. It may be that he likes CB and doesn't see a path to the field here.

I wish the young man nothing…

I wish the young man nothing but the best, but going from Team 144 to the Ole Miss locker room is going to be the culture shock of his life.

Where I come from we call it…

Where I come from we call it "Oggsford."

He's shown plenty of tape…

He's shown plenty of tape and I believe he'll be drafted higher than most people think. He might be a guard at the next level. The dude is strong and moves people.

Every player who spoke was…

Every player who spoke was poised and polished, and also funny. Jim started out pretty slow because he was reading a speech as opposed to going off cuff, which he's better at. But then he brings it home by quoting the "St. Crispian's Day" speech from Henry the 5th by heart, and with a bit of theatricality to it. I'm not the sentimental type but it gave me chills.

Well, even before Clemons…

Well, even before Clemons left I felt like we need help at wide receiver, and a bigger guy with experience would be really nice. The Indiana kid would have been perfect but he's going back to the Hoosiers. It's a tough sell because there are not a lot of balls to go around.

I really want Jim to come…

I really want Jim to come back because he's been great for Michigan football and college football in general.

But I will also completely revel in joy at how devastating this would be for certain other programs and their fanbases--namely OSU, Sparty and Penn State. He terrifies them.

Looks like Ann Arbor is set…

Looks like Ann Arbor is set to get about 3 -5 inches of snow on Friday night, but that should be done by 4 on Saturday. Temps in the 20s and also windy, so yeah, it's going to be a little chilly out on the parade route. But screw all that. Bundle up and show up! This is Michigan fergodsakes!

The late night guys are so…

The late night guys are so bad. Unfunny, just trying to win a popularity contest. Comedians are supposed to be the court jesters, sticking it to the king. These guys are so Establishment it's nauseating to watch. Sucking up to their masters. The biggest downfall of all, though, has been Howard Stern. What a suckup shrew. He's like a scolding old woman.

Proof that there is a God,…

Proof that there is a God, part one million, is that this kid didn't have to go through life as the guy who gave up the game winning TD in the Rose Bowl. He saved us all, and especially himself, by pulling it together there. I hope he goes somewhere he can start and play all season next year.

The reasons for Jim to head…

The reasons for Jim to head back to the NFL are numerous and obvious.

However, I think the biggest factor for him staying is being overlooked: his family. He lives next door to his parents and his kids' grandparents. Jack and Jackie aren't getting any younger, though they do look to be in remarkable shape. It must be so satisfying to have that family closeness 24/7. His younger kids are all still in school and entrenched in the community, have friends, etc. It would be tough to uproot them. JH is such a family man, I know that all of this has got to weigh heavy on him, easily as much as his competitive fire seeks a new challenge.

I would be more surprised if he stays, at this point, but not entirely.

Doesn't apply to just last…

Doesn't apply to just last night, but I'd love to see this JH quote on a shirt:

"Play as long as you can. Coach as long as you can. Then die."

I genuinely feel affection…

I genuinely feel affection for these boys as if they were my own sons. Blake Corum...such a sweet kid and a true warrior. Perhaps nothing sums up what they're about than when, like the bunch of dorks that they are, they began spontaneously singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" for a teammate or coach after each game.

This one's for you, Brian.

We could probably do a…

We could probably do a pretty damn good Mt. Rushmore of Guys Who Were Going to Go to Michigan but Went Pro Instead. I'll start.

1. Derek Jeter

2. Kevin Garnett

Actually, it was a man. A…

Actually, it was a man. A man of character. A man of vision. And that man's name was Moe Green.

Concur on Trente and Wallace…

Concur on Trente and Wallace both having monster games. Will add in Henderson at the other tackle, Barnhart, and Rod Moore.

I will concede that catching…

I will concede that catching a punt is harder than it looks. Also that it is very difficult for a 20 year old under extreme pressure. However, we are Michigan and we practice to be good at football all year round. I don't think it's too much to ask that we have a guy who can do this.

First and foremost: Make a good decision. This can be game dependent. For instance against Bowling Green when up by 24 in the 3rd quarter, by all means run up and try to catch the punt. But when one finds oneself in a pressure packed semifinal against a strong team, simply raise your hand and get the fuck out of there. I don't care if we lose ten more yards.

And second, when you are in the game for the first time in an incredibly tense situation and the punt is flying over your head behind the 10 yard line, again, just raise your hand and get the FUCK out of there.

Next year I want Will Johnson or some other vet back there. I don't care if we average 0.0 yards per return. Just give me someone who can make a good decision on when to catch the ball, and then can catch the ball.

The coverage was excellent,…

The coverage was excellent, I thought. Fowler has become one of those guys who makes it a big game just by calling it. He brings real excitement. Herbie is great too--I can get over the fact that he's a Buckeye. He knows the game and keeps it balanced.

The Big Love guy had three…

The Big Love guy had three pretty smokin' wives and he had to "satisfy" each one of them on their night because of the competition. Looks great on paper but after a few months a dude is going to want to get some rest.

Yes, file this one under the…

Yes, file this one under the "only call that ever happened in NFL history was against the Lions" file. This ref should be fined. He was told about the play before the game. The correct player reported and he STILL throws the flag. What should be talked about all day today is the Lions miraculous final drive, Gamblin' Dan Campbell, and a much deserved reward for a big man who has endured many losing seasons. Instead we get Jerry Jones celebrating in his box with all his asshole friends and everybody but Joe Buck knowing that this is the head ref leaning on the scale and making the story about the officials instead.

Fuck 'em. The Lions looked playoff ready, and I think having the bye can be a bad thing--you're usually playing a team that is on a roll in week 2.

We were warned he's stirred…

We were warned he's stirred things up wherever he goes. We wanted him anyway. And I'm all in for Harbaugh as long as he wants to be here. In a sport that is dominated by the cults of personality around its head coaches, I'd say he's the biggest star in college football.

Great, but concerned that we…

Great, but concerned that we are going to start losing guys who have given 3 years to the program and keep getting recruited over. Guys like Crippen, Anderson, and El-Hadi especially have to feel it's their time. I know it's a competition but is it better to get one year from this guy or three years from Crippen?

Bovine venereal syndrome.

Bovine venereal syndrome.

"The Boys in the Boat" book…

"The Boys in the Boat" book is fantastic and tells an amazing American underdog sports story. Unfortunately your review lines up with others of the movie, that George Clooney's direction leaves much to be desired.

OSU has taken on such a…

OSU has taken on such a country club, entitled, whiny sheen and they don't even realize it. As they get into this bidding war recruiting it's only going to continue to yield teams that are top-heavy with mercenaries who can't embrace the rivalry. I bet guys who played for them 20 years ago mutter this under their breath every day. SOFT.

The movie offerings are very…

The movie offerings are very lame this year. We were going to go see a movie the other night and could not find one that's interesting. Might go see the Chicken Run sequel because the first one was spectacular.

However I'm super excited to see "The Boys in the Boat" next week. Inspirational sports movie, set in the the Depression, George Clooney directing. The book was fantastic. No Oscar buzz but these days that's probably an affirmation.

As they talked about on the…

As they talked about on the podcast yesterday, the bigger problem by far for the long-term program is that U of M admissions is a complete cockblock on transfers, and with the way recruiting is at least 50% now done in the portal, this is a bottom of the B1G program going forward unless it changes. They lost two players because of this, and if both were at Michigan this is a potential final four team.

Yeah, most of the bowls are…

Yeah, most of the bowls are meaningless money grabs and the thing is, most of the money is coming from TV. Except for the top bowls, the stadiums are half empty and most of those tix are giveaways. I understand that a lot of people will watch a meaningless bowl game on Wednesday December 20, but unless it's Michigan, that ain't me.

The guy who lives three…

The guy who lives three doors down from me, who leaves his Christmas lights up year round and gives me weekly roundups on his five fantasy teams, is crushed--he was certain Ohtani was going to Michigan State.

In other news cost of a "dog and a beer" at Dodger Stadium raised to $74.
