I really appreciated this…

I really appreciated this update. Traveling from out-of-state for my first time at Yost in nearly two decades, and that's for a guy who attended every home game as a student. Also: my first time bringing my wife.

FYI: I believe adjacent seats are still available behind either goal.

Apparently others get this…

Apparently others get this to work, but my laptop only ever responds to onhockey.tv the same one, frustrating way:

I get immediately redirected to a spammy "your computer is infected, so download or pay for this hard drive scanner now" site.

"Just like football"

"Just like football"

God, that's satisfying to read.

Would be even better as a visitor section cheer late in the 3rd.

This may be neg-worthy, but…

This may be neg-worthy, but I'd far prefer this say:

"Good luck to any students(!) waiting on M EA..."

I'm a detractor of any parental vicariousness that treats these accomplishments primarily as the parents' own.

That is very much what I am…

That is very much what I am hoping!!

I have a twitter acct but…

I have a twitter acct but for some reason have chosen to do zero engagement except for the periodic Like (I mostly use it for more efficient reading of tweeted news).

So if this counts as a repository for alternative RTs, please count me in.

Anything but a statue…

Anything but a statue. Except for the one exception where, in the 2010s, we became that kind of school; historically, we are not that kind of school. And I like that about us.

I think this is also well…

I think this is also well measured by whether a program’s prominence (an admittedly fuzzy term covering recruiting ease, revenue, media coverage, etc.) significantly wanes during program downturns.

By this measure, I might argue that *zero* blue bloods have either been newly upgraded or newly downgraded since the University of Minnesota football program became downgraded after their last NC in 1960.

Honestly? This feels spot on…

Honestly? This feels spot on. Make it about mutual trust and I bet it’ll become about permanence.

Actually, everyone got A LOT…

Actually, everyone got A LOT of championship rings (Big Ten, Rose, CFP NC).

I think that means that some of these can be both transformational and transactional.

A thing a like and think I…

A thing a like and think I understand:

The team has this central sort of love going on that makes me think their culture is at least generally against emphasizing the pain and downfalls of their rivals, akin to Ted Lasso’s Schadenfreude Free Zones, limiting their focus to tasks-at-hand and celebrations-of-each-other. It’s super admirable, understandable as good for the team, and damned hard to do.

But I’m just a fan—fully free to make every unhealthy decision I choose!

ALL IN!!

ALL IN!!

ALL IN. BET!

ALL IN. BET!

I say no way to this.

I say no way to this.

The greatness of my experience tonight is that (1) the OSU D is showing out at full strength, to reinforce the M offensive performance as significant and real, while simultaneously (2) the OSU O is so severely depleted that they are at risk of losing a game they otherwise would not.

Something for nothing; IMO, that’s what we’re getting tonight.

The meh-with-modest…

The meh-with-modest-experience, Devin Brown, or the ???-but-TrFr, Air Noland?

Go back! That’s just grad…

Go back! That’s just grad school.

At competitive R1 universities, automatic stipend+tuition is almost universal for Ph.D. students (though it is comparatively rare for M.D., J.D., and M.B.A.).

Rush D is not their strength…

Rush D is quite mid for them (at least thus far this season).

With Zinter, I would have liked our chances at trying the 2021 OSU gameplan versus Alabama. Without him, I ... still hope they emphasize the run above all else--one of those offensive chess matches where, on first viewing as fans/amateurs, it does not appear particularly creative but, on rewatch, the run blocking nuances stand out as bespoke and devastatingly effective.

I’ve managed to never hear…

I’ve managed to not yet hear him and still I promise you that I can’t unknow that I’ve seen him

For those doubting that (m…

For those doubting that (m)any conference(s) see an incentive to eliminate the CCG (I agree), I think the most effective solution is to cannibalize the OOC schedule and expand the conference schedule.

If we reinstate divisions, that alleviates issues of playing out-of-division opponents so seldom that we no longer feel in conference with them.

If we stay away from divisions, cannibalizing the OOC would at least add data points to reduce the risk that many/most seasons will be marred by controversial tie breakers (more games means more tough games means fewer 1-loss teams.

Main downside: This would contribute to an acceleration of G5 financial wilting as they do collectively depend on those August/Sept OOC paydays.

Verdict: The gains far exceed the costs. Do it.

Just to be clear, if OSU…

Just to be clear, if OSU plays were permitted, my #1 overall from the last three years is none of those mentioned in the O.P.

It's my not-at-all humble opinion that the current winning streak was built on the foundation of the Josh Ross TFL of Henderson on 3rd&2 to end OSU's opening drive of the 2nd half in 2021.

At that point, it was still a 1-point game. Afterwards, Michigan went up by 8 and, despite my inescapable anxiety in real-time, the gift of hindsight reveals that the win was truly never under threat again.

Wrong attitude. It’s an…

Wrong attitude. It’s an example of basic competition but also an example of obvious desperation.

Be happy to let them try bc, whether they pull this off or not, the optics are *that* terrible (for earning team cohesion as well as for projecting coach confidence)

I take this to mean that…

I take this to mean that they are overextending to keep MHjr in a different way:

It is likely they need to guarantee Marv’s stay to get their next QB and it is also likely that they need to guarantee their next QB to keep Marv. And they may be trying to promise these things to both before either can be guaranteed true.

E.g., no way Marv stays if the next OSU QB isn’t guaranteed to be better than McCord. And yet one guy or the other is bound to have to make his decision before knowing for sure.

I like it too.

Though it…

I like it too.

Though it seems potentially misinterpretable—that rather than PWH representing Alabama before and after Michigan, some might mistake it for Alabama being the confident version of PWH and Michigan being the wrecked version. In that case, it might be helped if the “MICHIGAN” were layered in front of the wall as soon as it comes into view to emphasize that “MICHIGAN” represents the wall doing the damage rather than representing the now-damaged PWH.

I think there's too much…

I think there's too much associated evidence to be dogmatic about that. Michigan has been not only different but also, on net, materially better each of the last two years. You could argue that is all about the evolving styles necessary to overtake OSU. I happen to take the team (players/staff) at their word when they talk about carrying additional goals and how those reshape the team year-to-year. I take reports as plausible that Michigan has been prepping for OSU and putative CFP opponents since spring.

When rooting for a team on an upswing, then more than maybe any other time as a fan, you have to believe that whatever's next can be different and better. And at least in the Big Ten this era of Michigan football is effectively defined for the extent to which its upswing is sustained.

May not be popular, but I…

May not be popular, but I think half of this month should be devoted to maximizing the effectiveness and deceptiveness of the 7-man line with the available roster. (Getting everyone to speed *and* taking it certain steps beyond what we gave PSU.) And then having that fraction of practice devotion show up ~proportionately in the game.

If the ground game is key to beating Bama, and it has to be *a* key, then we beat them by making them gap unsound.

Can’t sleep; too happy

Can’t sleep; too happy

Honestly, I’m hoping it was…

Honestly, I’m hoping it was one of these (classy yet dominant):

“Hey you, Tony Petitti, I decided you’ll hand the trophy to our injured Zak Zinter. He’s a great man, deserves this. And it keeps the temperature down if you get my gist. Then, say anything you’d like to our crowd.”

We could do a lot worse than…

We could do a lot worse than LET’S GO ZAK as an anthem for the rest of the season.

Nugent: no info yet on…

Nugent: no info yet on whether that was a lower limb injury or a “getting shaken up” but the distinction is critical for our goals

If FSU loses and Bama wins,…

If FSU loses and Bama wins, we play…

Bama, right?

(And with a wickedly cruel-to-FSU CFP committee, we may even with an FSU win)

My worry:

The CFP may…

My worry:

The CFP may exclude FSU in that scenario and strongly invoke the “player health” fine print they adopted at CFP founding.

So wanting that chaos truly amps up the uncertainty, as I see it. The self-defeating risk in terms of our champ week rooting interest would be a semifinal vs … (prob not UGA) Alabama:

1. M

2. UWash

3. UT

4. Bama

I’ve been through this too…

I’ve been through this too many times. Hard on so many levels. Tends to be a private suffering; so, the couple’s support network is often just them. And even as a soft-hearted man, I’m still not sure I’ve had a chance to heal a single time because I’m too worried about my wife so my process just goes in the side compartment. And, so far, that’s meant forever.

Whether it’s prayers, strength, love, time, or new hope, I hope Dylan and his wife can find it all.

The Khaleesi tried to add …

The Khaleesi tried to add “Denter of Helmets” to her long-winded title but never had a chance.

An epic TV series based on the mythology of Michael Barrett? Yeah, I’d watch that.

For the Game, he wasn’t one of my concerns. Granted, he had seemed to significantly improve from last year.

I never realized how much…

I never realized how much Ben Herbert sounds like Rich Eisen. YMMV.

People keep calling that…

People keep calling that blood, but I think a fuller context is deserved. That’s “only blood” insofar as blood is inside us and this is showing us everything beneath the skin of Blake’s nasal bridge. Let your eyes follow up toward the accordioned tape of skin at the top.

This guy basically had his skin ripped off like some price tag that you only bothered to scrape to the edge, and it still can’t manage to hit the top five list for things on Blake Corum’s mind.

Focus; toughness; leadership.

#2 may be the consummate example of all Great Things About Football.

I don’t mind conservative…

I don’t mind conservative play with an 8-pt lead, but then you can’t also run JJ into a loaded flank. It’s either “sit on the game and get out of here healthy” or “go for the jugular. Going half-way for the former is stupid.

I think the object of that…

I think the object of that drive was clear:

Call a diversity of runs and never pass

Presumed object: open the pass for later. And despite the complaining, I like it. Especially when playing with turnover money.

We’ve rested our starters in…

We’ve rested our starters in the second half virtually all season. This moment is why. Bet!
