Bacon: Harbaugh getting $5 mil per year, same as SF deal
BREAKING NEWS: Straight from UM AD Jim Hackett. Harbaugh's salary will be roughly $5M a year, plus incentives, same basic contract as 49ers.
So much for "Harbaugh is only leaving the NFL because UM overpaid him"

Jim Harbaugh told Hackett he did NOT want to be the highest paid coach in CFB, or even the Big Ten. More concerned with pay for assistants.

Yes, but they still eat pretty well on $5mil per year.

same salary goes slightly farther in Ann Arbor than it does in San Fran....even if we assumed taxes are the same (not even close).

Stop it, STOP it, Jim! This can't be true. I'm not near my fainting couch.

We can't afford to overpay, heck we can't afford iPads and use of a private plane - Jim actually walked here.

The iPads stuff was just comical.

This has me more excited than anything.
He wants to win. And he is going to do it right.

Remember when Michigan was "rebuffed" by Harbaugh and they came back with a $48 Mil offer?
December 30th, 2014 at 11:00 AM ^
That is absolutely awesome! I can't wait to see what is next!!
December 30th, 2014 at 11:01 AM ^
I am posting this at the top since it just broke - 7 years
A bit more detail: Harbaugh contract is approximately $5 million for 7 years, with incentives. Clearly, Michigan would like him to stay.

I loved him before, but NOW....holy crap, truly a Michigan Man -- wants to take care of his guys. That, my friends, is leadership.

we were more than willing to believe that one. To think that we were willing to open up the checkbook to get him and keep him happy was a narrative that we all were buying.

Didn't Dantonio become one of the highest paid coaches last year after all of his incentives.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:35 AM ^
No
Dantonio had a $2M stay bonus for hitting his 7th year at MSU.
It wasnt performance based, it was longetivity based.

His base was raised to $3.6M and he got a one time stay bonus for 7 years on the job of $2M.
His based about a year earlier was $2.3M or something. So that $5.6M is misleading. It is fleeting for 1 year.

I just want to know how many years. I hope it is in the 6 to 8 year range.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:20 AM ^
At 5M per it better be 8 years :) Hell I'd accept 15 yrs at that rate.
(I am sure there are incentives in there for Big 10 titles and playoff wins and NC but still, even at a base rate thats a hell of a bargain and below market value)
December 30th, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
yes on the 48 million, but the length not confirmed..... Maybe 8 years at 5.5 million? But of course Gregg Henson is the only guy who had real enough information to "break" the story.

NFL...your rebuttle?
December 30th, 2014 at 10:52 AM ^
John Clayton already gave it to you. He couldn't get an offer out of another NFL team because they all recognize his terrible personality will tear apart any organization he touches. So going back to college was his only option, you see? He literally begged Michigan to hire him.

If accurate Jim goes from rock star to deity. That's so friggin awesome and is going to piss off so many people outside the university.
