NBA suspended season
Gobert turned in a positive test and now it’s over for a while.
Crazy times.
It's probably the correct decision but it's sorta crazy how fast that escalated.
And the whole Gobert touching all the reporters' microphones has not aged well.

He was trying to make a point, i dont think that was the one he was aiming for
Where does this all end? At what point are we reduced to being indefinitely quarantined in our own homes or held to a curfew?
Martial Law coming to a town near you.
Esports looking pretty impervious, both physically and martially, right about now...

Read this initially as escorts and wondered how the heck they were skating by. Now I feel bad. And am wondering how their business is. ?♂️
We fucked it up initially. Our exponential curve is bending up, not down (because we're testing more). It's going to take serious intervention to get it bent back down. Interventions like this one. I'm guessing most public schools will be closed by Monday.
I almost wouldn’t mind if they do close. My wife teaches in a public school and is five months pregnant. I guarantee she has at least 15-20 kids she comes into contact with every day who practice shitty personal hygiene. And a teacher the next county over already got the virus. God forbid she gets sick, she can’t take anything because she’s pregnant. And then we’re sitting here wondering if our child would experience birth defects.
Selfishly, neither of us would mind her holding up in the house for the next four months until she delivers.

Closing the schools worked wonderfully in Japan.
Somehow, they were caught unprepared for the massive number of health care workers who couldn't go to work because they suddenly had to stay home with their kids.

For what it's worth, I've already seen hospitals prepping for this by providing daycare to their workers.
Not sure how sustainable that is, but I know its its in the works in certain areas of CA.

One man's daycare is another man's quarantine unit.
Most private schools in Los Angeles will be closed indefinitely for in person classes by Monday...LAUSD public schools are also prepping for online instruction. Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles is preparing extra beds in tents in the parking lot. Looks like a scene from a bad movie, but this pic was sent to me by a doctor today.

this is a legit issue, in addition to the kids who don't have reliable meals at home and parents who can't afford childcare or to stop working.

We’ll envy their flatline in two weeks.
I’m a teacher sorry I’m not your kids babysitter. We have families to think about too. We aren’t the ones to hold this thing together. Do better
Very soon. There is/was a huge contingent of people on this blog spouting off the full worst possible case scenario as gospel, prompted by an out of control media, and those chickens are coming home to roost. This is a public health concern but it is decisively not THIS. It is too late now, though, fear is all that is left.
You've been downplaying this and making a fool of yourself the entire time, when do you admit you're just flat out wrong?
Because I’m not wrong. There will be fools in all of this but it certainly will not be me.

Someone on the internet once said “Arguing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pidgeon. It'll just knock over all the pieces, shit on the board, and strut about like it's won anyway.”
Agreed. And the bigger problem is when people elect the pigeon to public office.

Billionaires are not giving away money just for the heck of it! This is serious, and the more ppl that realize that the better off we will be as a society.

Your take and the other people that share it will directly lead to the deaths of vulnerable people. But you can pretend you're smart I guess
March 11th, 2020 at 10:17 PM ^
Best case scenario, we can all declare we were right three months from now. Not to many deaths and you and others can say all the craziness was for naught. Others will suggest, without those measures there would have been many more deaths but for those measures.

Do you get all of your news from InfoWars?
Wouldn't be surprising. Like some others here (MEE-ly) he's probably just upset about what it means for his team's chances in the next election.

Social media distancing would be good for all of us. Why don’t you start.
You kind of sound like Rudy Gobert...before he got the Coronavirus that caused the NBA to suspend the entire season. Sometimes it is better to just not hit the save button.

where would we be without you, taking time out from your full-time job as an infectious disease expert, to set us all straight.
THANK YOU for your service.
I mean, you don't have to be a statistics PhD to read this graph.

So, either you magically think our corona case rate is going to not continue along the Italy path, or it's time to buckle up.
Well, there is something to be said for US having 5 times the population of italy/UK. on a per capita basis our infection rate is 20% of those countries
March 12th, 2020 at 12:30 PM ^
Because we have tested virtually nobody. People can't really be this dense, can they?

I think the number of people who have had this virus and and gotten over it is much higher than we realize.
I think I need something more scientific than what you "think".
Trust me. I know counter strike.
Seriously though regardless of your snarky post I don’t think it’s a stretch if you are doing some research and reading on the topic and have a bit of common sense.
There are several public examples of people that were turned away as the flu only to return very sick with a Covid. I’m certain some of those folks never go in or never come back and get better.
No way The NCAA tourney is going to end up happening. Give it three days. I like how everything like sports and college is being cancelled but every working person — or like 99 percent of the world — is still supposed to just go about their day as usual lol.
March 11th, 2020 at 10:00 PM ^
Totally agree on the tournament. The regional sites (NY and LA) are essentially non-starters for travel at this point.
March 11th, 2020 at 10:42 PM ^
3 days? Friday.
March 12th, 2020 at 12:46 AM ^
Or how at most schools it’s just classes being cancelled, yet everyone who actually works at the school still has to go to work? That’s a great message to send...
March 12th, 2020 at 12:58 AM ^
we cannot cancel not showing up to our jobs. Plus in my office there are so many young parents who will probably bring the virus into the workplace. Corporate has no plans, I guess we just work until we are too ill to work?

Yes, here's another. Gobert made a point of touching every reporter's mic and recorder during a press conference two days ago.
Wow... this is... this is incredible. I want to say I'm surprised but I'm not in the least. This is bad... and it's only going to get worse, worse before it gets any better.
Guys I gotta be honest, I've been so short on here today because I'm scared. I don't know what to believe because I have the media hyping up the hysteria but I have people I know in the medical field such as a doctors who say it's very low risk for most people.
All I know is is when U-M cancels class, it's serious because it rarely happens. The whole scene at the Jazz and Thunder game tonight where the announcer went on the PA and said "you are all safe..........please leave the arena in an orderly fashion" really has me freaked out.
I hope this is all over soon.....
Well, next time you're scared don't make it a point to go on the internet and pretend you know what you're talking about or contradict the professionals.
Hope you stay safe and healthy.
