MSU lucks into playing Illinois without Cockburn or Curbelo, still loses

This was a game both teams did their best to try and lose. For U of I it’s a bit understandable considering they were missing their 2 best players, but for the life of me I have no idea how Sparty is (was) a top 10 team. They looked *terrible*. Look at this abomination and weep:

Certainly can.  The 33% chance Torvik gives them sounds about right.  They'd win it 1 of 3 times.  Hopefully that one is Saturday. Should be a good one.

If Michigan takes care of business tomorrow (not a gimme though) and pulls off a win at Breslin, wow.  What a week it will have been.

Go from dead in the water to just a half game behind Sparty and only one loss behind the conference leaders?

Just win tomorrow though.

Getting that sweet Izzo friendly whistle is a nice way to claw your way back in a game you have no business being in. Illinois was up big most of the second half and still wasn’t in the bonus after an intentional foul with 10 seconds to go

Illinois was like “here take the win” and MSU was all “nope.”

Then the refs were like “I insist… at least take these two undeserved FTs and go to OT” and MSU was all “nope”

Predicted Izzo response, the old fake taking-responsibility gambit: “They didn’t do what I told them to do so it’s my fault they lost the game.”

Speaking of ugly, I'll make this the CBB thread for the evening and talk about Arizona at UCLA.

Didn't watch it but looking that the box score, Kriisa (that pesky eastern european guard) was 0-12 including 0-9 from three!! And Mathurin was somehow 2-16 from TWO!  That is unfathomable.

UA lost by 16 in what was a huge game in the PAC12.

I watched the first 8 minutes.  Frazier missed his first three then made the next two, on consecutive possessions around the 14 minute mark of the first half.  He had a layup before the threes and another after.  So, more than half of Frazier’s points came early.  Illinois didn’t appear to have many offensive options.

I tend to agree when the game isn't relevant. If OSU beats MSU 56-7 in football and MSU is 4 games behind Michigan in the standings, everyone should just have a chuckle and move on. But when they lose 56-7 to OSU that eliminates them from the big ten race and sets up Michigan to win a big ten title, you better damn believe there will be a rightful celebration thread. Today is definitely more the latter than the former
