Our win over UW and Penn State over Gophers dropped them to #11, and us up to #8

also ahead of UMD and Northeastern

Ohio still #6, ND #2 after winning their games last night

This would be a #2 seed.

Amaizing season, come to Yost tonight to watch us win the series.

What a tear these guys have been on, it's been fun to follow and watch. Can't wait to see some more, hopefully they start getting more tv time. Keep it up boys, Go BLUE!

Seems like Mel Pearson was worth every penny it took for Warde to get him in here.  This team was thought to have virtually no talent, and the expectation was a poor B1G showing and no NCAA Tourney look.  And here they are looking directly into the eyes of a 2-seed.

Unbelievable coaching job!

any question anyone had about how big an impact Mel had as an assistant at Michigan were put to rest when he went north, and did an incredible rebuild on the fly while we started to slip.  He was the only choice that made any sense to me.  Great to see him getting the boys to get it done so quickly.

It's going to be bullshit if Mel doesn't win every single coach of the year award. This season was thought to be a lost "rebuilding" year, but now we're looking at a 2 seed. This is one of the best one year turnarounds I've ever seen in college hockey.

Taking my young daughters (7 and 10) to their first Michigan hockey game tonight. I am driving over from Plymouth and I haven’t been to Yost in a while. Any recommendations on traffic and parking? How long do I need to give myself, and are there any cool Yost experiences I need to make sure they have (e.g. seeing players come out of the tunnel)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Go Blue!

Parking- It's midwinter break (not spring) so most students and student's cars are gone in the surrounding neighborhoods.  Yesterday I parked on Mary st. just north  of Hoover (3 min. walk) and last Sunday on Division right accsoss from Elbel field (4 min. walk). The student slumlord neighborhood just east of State st. should also have free spots if you come 45 min. early.

Yost exeriences- riding the Zamboni would be tops ...how to sign up I'm a bit iffy on. In the past you just showed up early and signed up at the skate shop. Someone mentioned you signed up on line but I find nothing on MGoBlue.com. I'm there at 5:45 and could try to get you on the list. Give me some names and I could say they're my neices or something. For sure you have to stop by Sec.8 by the Zamboni and I'll have some swag for your kids and they can play my trivia game for a chance to win prizes (spoiler...everyone wins). Say "Hey Carl" when you get there.

Tunnel entrance hand slaps are more Big House and Crisler things but I could introduce the young uns' to Brian. Worth the price of admission right there.

And to think that Pearson has barely even gotten going. As Brian notes, he made Tech respectable right away ... "but then he got them to a whole other gear (paraphrased)."

A weird consequence of the Pairwise Probability Matrix being based on KRACH is that it's presently predicting that Minnesota (93%) has a higher probability than Michigan (85%) of securing an at-large despite being 3 spots lower than Michigan in the Pairwise.

I think of it in a different way. The Pairwise Probability Matrix gives you total chance of making the tournament (IN), chance that they win the conference tournament (AQ), and chance that they don't win the conference tournament, but are high enough in the Pairwise that it doesn't matter (AL). So what it's really saying is there's a 14% chance Michigan wins the B1G tournament, but only a 5% chance Minnesota does, and Michigan still has an overall higher chance (99% vs 97%) of getting any kind of bid.

Thanks for making it explicit. It wasn't helpful for me to leave my post open to the interpretation that Minny receiving a more favorable at-large percentage means that they are also receiving a more favorable total percentage. (I never meant that but by only focusing on the AL, a passerby could have easily overinterpreted my post, which is a fair deficit of my post)

Having said that, it is unclear to me whether PPM/KRACH calculates a total likelihood of getting in and then calculates a separate likelihood of getting the AQ -- subtracting the 2nd from the 1st to indirectly arrive at the at-large percentage.

The alternative could be that PPM/KRACH may directly calculate the odds that a team gets (1) in the tourney only because of the AQ, (2) in the tourney with an AQ but would have had an AL anyway, or (3) in the tourney with a mere AL ... and then adds (1) + (3) to arrive at the AQ/AL ratio ... or (1 + 2) + (3) ... or (1) + (2 + 3).

I'm not arguing they do it any of these way. Just acknowledging that I'm not sure of their method. Maybe you are intimately aware and we should consider your take official. If not, there are plural methods and we would need to know them well to have this conversation properly.

In any event, PPM is 100% KRACH based, and KRACH still has Minny about Michigan, which I'd predict to have wonky effects.

I was fortunate to be at the game last night; however, the lack of TV coverage has been very frustrating.  I remember way back when the BTN was introduced many were optimism it would result in additional hockey coverage.  This year has been a disapointment as only a handful of games have been covered.

Also, an observation from last night's game.  I know it is spring break, but the Children of Yost section put forth a valiant effort with many students noticeably still out of town.  Hopefully they will gain some troops today as students return to campus.  The North end-zone was maybe half full.  If you are able to go to tonights game, tickets are still available and I'm sure the game will be exciting as these two teams match up well.

With him being wildly successful at both Tech and Michigan as the head man, it continues to be apparent Mel was just as big a factor in those teams of the 90s as Red was. So glad to have him back and to have the team back. It's gonna be a fun in Yost for the next number of years

The PWR ranking it transitory. Obviously, Michigan will ascend to a great position if they win the conference tournament, but a couple of losses this weekend can still drag us waaaay down. Teams like UMD have a lot of high-ranked games ahead of them that will have a big effect on RPI.

But it's nice to be this high right now. One more win this weekend advances in the conference tournament and, I believe, seals a tournament bid. This is better than I ever thought this team would perform this year.
