Did they say exactly what went wrong? Seemed like JJ tried to pull. Was Corum thinking it was a straight run?
November 1st, 2021 at 2:25 PM ^
I didn't think JJ at all tried to pull. It looked to me like he was leaving the ball for Blake. Blake clearly didn't think he was getting the ball because he just kept running past the mesh. I figured it was either a read that they interpreted differently or one of them was executing the wrong play.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Yeah from what he said, Blake was supposed to take it.
November 1st, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
Normally you’d see that rear hand pull back if it’s a give, at least that’s the indicator I’ve seen coaches on a mesh point.
November 5th, 2021 at 11:59 PM ^
However, it looked like JJ kept the ball on Corum's near hip, which is how you normally run the read. On the Give he should slide the ball a little further across to let the runner definitely know that it is a Give. If Harbaugh said it was supposed to be a Give and Corum heard wrong it's definitely on him, but JJ is not entirely blameless either.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:38 PM ^
I heard that Harbaugh thought that Corum didn't get the play call correctly.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:46 PM ^
so in reality it was another Gattis Eff up.
how do you come off the sideline huddle and not properly communicate the play to the RB who is SUPPOSED to get the ball?
November 1st, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
I am not a Gattis fan, but isn’t he in the booth? Not sure he is the biggest culprit on this one.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
Or, maybe it was properly communicated but Corum simply forgot or just made a mistake?
November 1st, 2021 at 3:38 PM ^
like they always say, never attribute to a player that which can adequately (and fictionally) be explained by harbaugh or his staff. fucking EVER.
November 1st, 2021 at 5:13 PM ^
Wait, wait, wait...you're suggesting that Blake Corum is a human being capable of making mistakes like I do? Such thinking is UNACCEPTABLE and I will NOT put down my Fire Harbaugh Pitchfork (tm).
November 1st, 2021 at 6:03 PM ^
I don’t know. Seemed like JJ was making a read and took a long time to be definitive on keeping or handing off. If it was supposed to be a handoff I can’t really blame Corum….everyone in that stadium expects JJ to keep on the option if he’s in the game, so Corum probably figured the same thing. Plus it looked like JJ had two hands on the ball like he was running the option versus a designed handoff which is usually a one handed exchange. Who knows, doesn’t really matter.
November 1st, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
They run that play often and it is not a one-handed exchange.
November 1st, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
Probably because its supposed to be a post-snap read.
November 1st, 2021 at 6:39 PM ^
Yea Gattis effed up 33 points on the road against a top 10 team. People need to get a life
November 1st, 2021 at 2:19 PM ^
Well, Blake did not have a great game. A memorable one, sure, but not a great one. I know nothing about him but hope he's the kind that is motivated by this type of game and plays to the next level the rest of the year and beyond.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
Corum had a rough start to the game with the dropped screen pass and never recovered. Let's hope he uses this as motivation for the balance of the season. There is/was much to be learned for many on this team, including coaches.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:47 PM ^
agree, he had several opportunities for a HUGE game and let them slip out of his hands.
November 1st, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Corum's been acting cocky lately as he wore those terminator sunglasses at the presser after the NW game. I hope he's been eating crow and humble pie since Saturday's loss. Now is the time for Blake to wear the big-boy pants and get right.
November 1st, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
I don’t know if he’s cocky, maybe he is, or maybe he’s just being a college kid. I thought last game and this game he did try to do too much. He has had more than a few runs where he gets to the sticks or close to them, but tries to juke and loses yards or gets tackled short. Sometimes diving forward for that extra 2 yards to move the sticks is more important than trying to hit a home run or make the highlight reel.
November 1st, 2021 at 6:23 PM ^
Someone had a similar stupid comment on Twitter. He wore terminator sunglasses...which means he's cocky? OK...And then being cocky caused him not to get the playcall? People will nitpick about the most inane stuff.
November 1st, 2021 at 7:39 PM ^
What an odd thing to say
November 1st, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
Yeah, after seeing the play more that makes the most sense. McCarthy definitely looked surprised that he still had the ball in his hands.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:25 PM ^
I wish that he did still have the ball in his hands. He gave it to Corum. The ball fell from Corum's chest to the ground because he didn't take the handoff.
November 1st, 2021 at 7:24 PM ^
I am going to get crapped on for this but I don't care. I am convinced Corum had money on MSU, he is just way too good to play the way he did.
November 2nd, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
Pregnant girlfriend is much more believable.
If Mcnamara was in the medical tent, the team would have been treating JJ with velvet gloves. Corum should have known that.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:34 PM ^
Haven't seen it yet but interested to hear what he has to say about IU. I'm concerned for several reasons. First, IU usually plays very well against Michigan. Second, I think they are better than their record. No, they aren't having the season many predicted but I think they are still a dangerous team with some really good players particularly at RB, WR and LB. The Michigan of the last several years would come out sleepwalking and be in a fight until the end. Let's hope this Michigan team is different and all the talk about "resolve" and "having all our goals in front of us" isn't just talk.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:37 PM ^
Their offense is atrocious. What really good players do they have at RB?
Furthermore, their defense has been eviscerated the last two weeks.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
I read somewhere that there is a 50/50 chance their starting QB is back this week.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
It’s been like that every week.
Penix wasn’t playing great before either.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:28 PM ^
I think we all would prefer Indiana not play with their Penix in this game.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:43 PM ^
Think Carr the transfer from USC is a pretty good RB. They have good WRs and a good TE. Good LB in McFadden. Their problem is keeping a QB healthy.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
The offense was bad at the start of the year when everyone was healthy. Their problems go deeper than QB health.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:23 PM ^
Because Mike Hart was the x factor.
He's ours now.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
which games of their's have you watched?
in teh Big Ten they lost
34-6 vs Iowa
24 - 0 vs Penn State
20-15 vs state (Pick 6 for sparti in this game)
54-7 vs osu
38-35 to Maryland
so my thought is you only watched them play Maryland where their QB threw for 242 & Carr ran for 136 yds.
Maryland is 13th in the conference in Defense, Maryland is #14
Run D Maryland is 13th
IU is 6th ahead of Michigan after last weeks disgusting showing
Pass D Maryland is 10th
outside of what they did vs Maryland I am not seeing a whole lot to be impressed with.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:48 PM ^
IF we are in a dogfight in this game it is because our team didn't focus this week on IU and are still obsessing about letting one slip away at state.
NOT because IU has a team that can beat us.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:56 PM ^
They bottled up Walker and should have won that game. We always play them before a bigger game so there's always the danger of looking past them. Plus they historically play us tough. That's all I'm saying.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
OK,
we may well come out flat as hell this week after blowing last weeks game.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:36 PM ^
When they play us tough it’s usually been in Bloomington. In Ann Arbor we’ve generally won comfortably.
November 1st, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
Absolutely! I’ve been to most of the UM/IU games home and away for the last 20 years and IU almost always plays us tough to the wire. I don’t expect a loss but I don’t expect a cakewalk either.
November 1st, 2021 at 5:38 PM ^
Indiana has played Michigan tough most of the last 20 years because Michigan is much closer to an Indiana than being similar to ohio state at this point. It sucks, but it is what it is. Indiana competes at or above where they recruit most years. Michigan plays below where they recruit every year. The on field product is closer than any of us would like to admit.
November 1st, 2021 at 2:56 PM ^
Indiana tends to perform better against Michigan in Bloomington (as one might expect). Indiana last won in Ann Arbor in 1967. Punt, John (Isenbarger), Punt team that went to the Rose Bowl. The reference to Punt was Tailback and Punter Isenbarger’s tendency to eschew the punt and run it on his own. That was the headline on an SI article at the time: https://vault.si.com/vault/1967/11/13/punt-john-punt
November 1st, 2021 at 3:11 PM ^
Beat them by 11 and 10 the last two times in Ann Arbor. Hardly dominating. Maybe we come out and drill them 56-10 Saturday. If so, I'll be thrilled. But wouldn't be surprised by an ugly slog.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:50 PM ^
Having watched Tom Allen pull out all the stops including getting his players to fake injuries to slow down WKU in person, I can honestly tell you they are not. They are bad. They were having trouble when Penix was healthy, they are worse since he went out.
I just hope no one gets Fryfogled…
November 1st, 2021 at 2:37 PM ^
JJ put the ball in Corum's chest and did not hang on to the ball. The ball fell straight down. That is on the running back. Slow motion replay shows that it was a give not a keep
November 1st, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
I was surprised that so many were blaming JJ for that fumble. The one fumble that was on him .....we didn't lose.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
I was blaming Harbaugh until I heard Cade was in the tent.
November 1st, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
Was it Joel Klatt doing the color commentary for the game? Anyway, the color commentary guy said that it is on the QB for the option that is why everyone is blaming McCarthy.
November 1st, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
But this didn't seem like it was an option. Sounds like it was supposed to be a straight handoff.
November 1st, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
Not everyone blamed JJ.
