2019 WR Dunmore decommits from FL
Top 2019 WR drops FL commitment, has U of M on his list. He has enough star to keep Maizen at bay, maybe.

Threadjack - In other positive recruiting news, a 4 star DT is visiting this weekend. (considered a long shot, but a visit is a visit.

The less-than-impressive performance of our OL during the last three seasons might be a rational reason for top OL recruits to look elsewhere, but that's certainly not the case with our DL, especially with Mo likely going in the first round. Pretty strange that not a single DT recruit we've gone after isn't willing to come here with our coaching staff.

I've often wondered why Coach Mattison's name alone wasn't enough to bring in a 5-star DL every year. With his experience, creds and results, I would think it speaks for itself. Strange.
January 24th, 2018 at 9:33 AM ^
There's probably some negative recruiting going on at this point, since Mattison will probably be retired in a couple years.
January 24th, 2018 at 9:49 AM ^
I'm sure that behind the scenes Harbaugh and staff are trying to address those concerns, but I wonder if a more public statement reassuring recruits—like Partridge releasing his new contract for public view—would have helped.

I'd imagine other schools are also pointing out that Michigan took a two-deep of DL last year.
Hurst going early should help out for future 'crootin. Michigan hasn't had a DT drafted in the first two rounds since Alan Branch in 2007.
EDIT: To threadjack the threadjack, is Alce a take? Your visitors list is the first place I'm hearing his name.
January 24th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
I'm sure you're right, but it's an indication of the radical difference between the two programs that 5-stars don't seem to shy away from Alabama regardless of the fact that the Tide is stacked with 5-stars on the two-deep already.
January 24th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
Alce doesn't have a Michigan offer right now. I especially doubt he would be a take after Barrett committed.
Michigan took some DTs last year, but Hudson has already moved to the offensive line.

You shut that dirty mouth! Mattison needs to stay for another 20 years!!
(Sigh... If it were only so easy...)

...because by the time a lot of defensive linemen make an impact, he could be gone. A lot of freshmen and sophomores are backups or rotation players who don't get a ton of reps.
January 24th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
I think this is part of why Al Washington is now there. If he develops a relationship with them too, he's a likely DL coach if Mattison does decide to (shudder) retire. Might make someone next year feel more secure. You know by coaching LB's he's basically watching every move Mattison makes.
January 24th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
Maybe. He's also said he has a lot of years left, which I believe.
January 24th, 2018 at 1:38 PM ^
There's a fair amount of scuttlebutt that Mattison will be retiring after the 2019 season when he will be about 70 years old.
January 24th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
I assume this why the message is compelling. But from a substantive point of view, assuming Mattison's tutelage is valuable, you would think it's just as valuable (if not more so) during the formative years when you are not yet a contributor.

We pulled a 5 star DT out of Georgia just last year. Along with 2 more 4 star DT and another 3 star DT. I think we're going to be fine. It's not like we haven't been able to pull in anyone.
I think we went into the season with limited space on the Dline. They zeroed in on Friday and lost out. 2019 already has Hinton on the dline and I expect more to follow.

It seems like UM was in pretty good standing with Sandidge a while ago. But like most things with the 2017 year, UM seemed to let the recruiment slip for reasons unknown. Hopefully there is still good interest. A visit is not a bad thing.

He would be better on the OL, IMO, but he wants to play defense.

I think it's paywalled, however.
Here's his 247 profile which lists the South Carolina official on his timeline.

the last thing we need is a couple more 3-stars to resurrect Maizen back from the dead
January 24th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
Is Maizen the only member who prefers higher rated recruits to commit to Michigan? The cult like following of Maizen is worse than Maizen.

I saw his film from last season. Unless he has DUNMORE since then to improve his game, I am not interested...

Maybe someone will pass that on to the coaching staff, so they don't waste their time.

Now, I'll let you and the other Very Serious Adult Males get back to your Very Serious Discussion of where an 18 year old you've never met decides to go to college to play a game.
