+1 for bringing the…

+1 for bringing the Foundation reference out of left field and having it be 100% spot on.

He had some kind words for…

He had some kind words for Harbaugh and Ono, then lumped Warde in with the regents for a generic thank you.

Great game. Although that…

Great game. Although that blocking call against Burnett ranks up there with the worst calls I’ve ever seen in my life. They even reviewed it! Dude was standing still and took a high elbow to the face. I couldn’t believe the let that stand.

And also the whole landscape…

And also the whole landscape will be different next year. It will be very difficult for a Big 10 or SEC team to get through the season undefeated, or even with one loss.  So there will be a lot of 1 and two loss teams at the top of these leagues.

Hell, if that 9-3 includes a loss to Texas, and we go 6-2 in the Big 10, we may be playing in the Big 10 Championship game.

We are about to see some crazy tie-breaker scenarios in the B1G/SEC in the coming years I think.

The consensus seemed to be…

The consensus seemed to be Morgan made a good or at least defensible choice in fielding that muffed punt.

My concern watching that live was that he was full out sprinting to get to the ball. Catching punts is a hard enough task as is, doing it while running at full speed is a lot tougher. It's one thing if you are running 70/80% and catching it on the fly.

I think that was a bad choice. Especially since we were going to have good field position anyway.

Why the F is this a 9pm tip…

Why the F is this a 9pm tip if it's on Peacock???

Two things I guess that help…

Two things I guess that help explain it. 1) Might as well do it now. No point in waiting around for the bowl game. And 2) so many blue-chip recruits, only so many snaps. So it is tempting to point at that cesspool and say 'Ha! Told you so'. But in reality they recruit assuming they'll see this kind of attrition I'd think.

Trust me, bro.

Trust me, bro.

Appreciate the effort, but…

Appreciate the effort, but you're right. It's too early, too many draft decisions.  And these types of exercises are totally pointless anymore with the transfer portal.

If I were Quinten Johnson I…

If I were Quinten Johnson I would have that picture of him de-cleating Egbuka blown up and hanging over my fireplace for the rest of my life. Amazing!!!!

What I like about this is…

What I like about this is that it sets up for Ryan Day to not only lose to UM three years in a row, but he'll lose this year without our head coach! Imagine the heat on his seat from the Buckeye crowd when that comes to pass.

Love this content! Thanks…

Love this content! Thanks Matt and keep up the great work.

Those both sound like good…

Those both sound like good ideas, she should do that.

For all the attention Will…

For all the attention Will Johnson's coverage skills get, he has since he stepped on the field has been a willing and physical hitter. Very impressive, and we get one more year of him!

Forget having the best TE…

Forget having the best TE combo in the country, we have THE TWO BEST TE'S IN THE COUNTRY!!

"On one level, it's a five…

"On one level, it's a five yard out hooray. On another, the consistency with which McCarthy is finding and hitting the right guy is a large part of the reason he leads the country in QBR."

Also the velocity with which he throws. He has NFL-caliber arm strength for sure. That was the thing the popped off the screen back in the McNamara/McCarthy battle was just how much quicker the ball gets there when he throws.

That extra half-second can be the difference between being tackled on the catch, or allowing the receiver enough space to make a move and pick up some YAC.

I approve.

I approve.

On the McCarthy incompletion…

On the McCarthy incompletion game: I would like to defend Donovan Edwards a little bit on that first 'drop' they gave to him.

That ball was coming in HOT. That was a short throw and JJ needed to take just a little bit off that one. In the replay you can see the ball hitting Edwards' pad before his hands even react. So maybe I'd give that one split responsibility. Maybe 60/40 Edwards.

It's right there in the sub…

It's right there in the sub-heading: "‘And I just can’t look, it’s killing me,’ is the bellowed refrain that closes everything from weddings to student nights."

This isn't something that is just done for football. It has become part of cultural mainstream, like Neil Diamond, "Piano Man", or any of those other songs that everyone knows and gets played when there are large groups of people.

Lol, I'm not taking on…

Lol, I'm not taking on Victor. He is way more athletic than I am.

Just would like to switch it up a bit is all I'm saying. Like maybe putting those fancy new scoreboards to good use and show actual highlights of other games?

I mean, if they're spending $24M on something superfluous instead of, like, lowering ticket prices or something then they might as well use them for something cool.

Assuming fewer 2:45…

Assuming fewer 2:45 commercial breaks are off the table, I dunno. But the dog is getting pretty played out for me personally.

Maybe just some time to sit and talk to the people I came to the game with? Enjoying being outside on a nice fall day with 100k+ people enjoying a game and team we love is enough, I don't need to be bombarded by music, dogs, and patriotic platitudes.

Best additions? I'm not sure…

Best additions? I'm not sure I need to see a frisbee dog 3+ times a game, every game. It's a just a  way to distract fans from the fact that there are an insane number of commercial breaks.

"TE #3 had more snaps than…

"TE #3 had more snaps than WR #3."

I'm guessing this has something to do with why our two TE recruits are ranked significantly higher than our two WR recruits. But as long as we keep getting results on the field, it's all good with me.

Yes, and I believe the glee…

Yes, and I believe the glee club concert on that day was rescheduled from the evening to the afternoon. So it looks like Purdue will be a night game.

Yeah, having commercials on…

Yeah, having commercials on all four screens at once is a pretty magical experience. :)

I've been interested to see…

I've been interested to see how other, non-headliners do in this system. Per a quote from Trevor Keegan in the story, he expects to make between $225k and $500k this year. Amazing.

Agree 100%. And also in old…

Agree 100%. And also in old-man takes, at least I didn't think the ear-splitting music was as omni-present as last year. Or maybe it just wasn't as loud so I didn't notice.

As awesome as the dunk is,…

As awesome as the dunk is, it is the Xavier Simpson big attitude walk that does it for me!

Seriously.  What's the point…

Seriously.  What's the point of conferences anymore?

My thoughts exactly. It's almost as if it might make more sense for all the commissioners and/or NCAA to get together and look big picture at what they want the landscape to look like and what makes sense for the long term health of their member schools. Instead of everyone panicking and making short-sighted moves based on revenue and not thinking about their student athletes.

Crazy thought, huh?

Hmmm, several OL over 320…

Hmmm, several OL over 320 now. Seems like that is getting a bit big? I don't know much, so maybe it's ok. But my sense is that 300-310 or so seems ideal. We need these guys to be agile and flexible to pull right? I'm sure it's part of the program, but just seems big.

Maybe good ol' two-a-days in camp will get them back down a bit.

For the sake of being…

For the sake of being pedantic, a low rated player who is a 'take' doesn't necessarily mean the staff think he's underrated. It may just be the best player they think they can get.

Not these guys specifically, maybe they are DJ Turner but maybe they are Keith Washington in the 2015 class.

Although that 2015 CB class was followed up by David Long and Lavert Hill in 2016, so......

Great call back to the Odoms…

Great call back to the Odoms punt return against Purdue. I was watching that in Traverse City at Mackinaw (sic) Brewing Company while my wife shopped. She surprised me some Merrill shoes I had said I liked earlier in the day. I still wear those shoes when I mow the lawn.

All these individual…

All these individual conferences and individual teams running around looking for revenue, wouldn't it make more sense for all the P5 leaders to meet and work together? Like 'hey, let's get together and create 4 super-conferences and negotiate together'. Seems like that makes more sense than say USC/UCLA having to fly their lacrosse team across the country on a Wednesday night to play in Happy Valley.

Just seems like this could all be coordinated better and avoid a lot of the uncertainty and everyone scrambling to not be the last one without a chair when the music stops.

Well, he's not going to be…

Well, he's not going to be that bucket-getter I wanted, but I'm not sure how many of those guys are left out there - the Kentucky player maybe, not sure who else.

But he would be a solid pick up and we absolutely need to get somebody for that spot, so I'd be ok with this.

Texas next year (2024) along…

Texas next year (2024) along with USC/UCLA additions? I'm sure we'll get at least one of the two California schools, even if it isn't at home. That should make for an interesting schedule.

Makes this year's schedule a little easier to take knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Sounds good, makes sense…

Sounds good, makes sense. And like I said I appreciate all the work that goes into these. I don't follow recruiting as much as I used to, so these posts are the highlight of the Spring/Summer and help get me ready for the what the team will look like in the fall.

I don't know, I find it a…

I don't know, I find it a little distasteful. I know it ISN'T the same as naming players in transfer/processing posts, but it feels kinda in that same vein.

Also, these posts include a lot of great content that requires some projection, to take that an extra step to speculate on how likely the player is to stay or not seems like a speculation too far.

Plus Seth already spends a ton of time on these and it is greatly appreciated. Maybe he could save himself some time and not think about/write up this part of the post.

But that is just, like, my opinion man.

Early season Thursday…

Early season Thursday afternoon Tigers game in the outfield with a cold beer.....hard to beat that.

Assuming it's not snowing of course.

Whoa, save it for the hot…

Whoa, save it for the hot take section man. Jett is second on the team at 14.4 points, made more 3's than anyone else save one has attempted, and oh yeah is also 3rd on the team in assists.

The starter in his place would be.....Jace? Gregg Glenn? He's not a great defender, but if you think our O will be fine on the road at Rutgers where our main options are HD who will be matched up with Omoryui and whoever they bring to double, and Kobe..then I'm not sure what to tell you.

Um.....Spoiler alert!!!!!

 …

Um.....Spoiler alert!!!!!

This makes me a little…

This makes me a little nervous about the DL.

Jenkins/Graham should be solid. Benny looks ready to take the next step, we'll need him to. Grant will need to have the year next year that Benny had this year. Hopefully Iwunnah or the freshman Pierce can get some spot duty relieve the top guys as well.

On the Edge, I didn't realize Okie was leaving. That puts a dent in our pass rush, I was expecting a big year with a full off-season with the team. That means we'll be relying on Moore and Stewart to get our edge rush? Could be very good, but I don't think that is a sure thing. Hopefully McGregor breaks out at SDE, or Etta gets some early reps. Not a lot of depth there.

Not to worried about the top line guys but really need the young guys to continue to develop.

Here's a thought. How about…

Here's a thought. How about that $12M for scoreboards and $5M fro audio, plus most of that $12M site work/design fee goes to reducing ticket prices?

Like, does anyone leave the stadium thinking "I wish the scoreboard was bigger and the DJ was louder"?????

Agreed. At a bare minimum…

Agreed. At a bare minimum can everyone at least apply a basic "Does this make any sense?" test before posting on every random talented player that transfers?

Rule 1 would be if someone is transferring because they are a back-up, they will almost certainly not transfer to a school with an established starter at their position.

That could have saved us from this pointless thread.

On the clip of the pass to…

On the clip of the pass to Johnson - if he stays running straight instead drifting inside I think he catches that in stride. The CB has inside leverage so I think McCarthy was expecting him to run straight - especially because it keeps him away from the safety too. That was actually a really well thrown ball I think.

I mean, I get what you’re…

I mean, I get what you’re saying. But most mock drafts have Stroud as a top 5 pick. They are probably all overvaluing how good he’ll be as a pro, but doesn’t really impugn this article’s credibility.

I think this should be…

I think this should be enforced more:

V. After B1 runs into the kicker, kicker A25 simulates being roughed. RULING: Offsetting fouls.

If you bump the kicker and he flops like he's playing in the EPL, then those are offsetting penalties.

Re-posting what I put in the…

Re-posting what I put in the earlier Okie thread. I'm not sure why Brian/Sam/etc. would be confused on this, seems pretty straight forward. He has this year and next year.

He is a RS Jr this season. He was in the 2018 class (with Aiden Hutchinson, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields)

Per MGoBlue.com

2018 - Played at Alabama (Fr.)

2019 - Redshirted (RS Fr.)

2020 - COVID - Free year (also sat out due to transfer)

2021 - Played at UT Martin (RS So)

2022 - Destroyed Spencer Petras (RS Jr)

2023 - Will destroy more QBs (RS Sr)

Just one pedantic point - on…

Just one pedantic point - on the Sunday podcast and here, Ishtar was invoked - initially by Brian seemingly to imply a long, endless journey.

Ishtar wasn't a long movie, or about a long journey. It is noted for being terrible and way over budget. Maybe Brian was thinking of another movie? Lawrence of Arabia maybe?

Meta question - on what…

Meta question - on what percentage of Seth's comments over the last several podcasts, roundtables, etc. has Brian negged his comment? Sometimes Seth gets a little too worked up, granted, but man. I'd be getting kinda annoyed if I were Seth by now.
