SIAP: Is Jim Harbaugh Able to Donate to Champions Circle?
I’ve seen that former players are allowed to donate to NIL collectives but what about former coaches? Jim does seem like the kind of guy to donate if he’s allowed to do so. He donated over a million to athletic department employees a couple of years ago.

What’s confusing about what I asked? Is he allowed to donate to Michigan’s NIL collective or not?
January 30th, 2024 at 5:05 PM ^
I think you missed the intended humor, it's an odd question to ask OP.
But so did the other down voters....

@westcblue
I was in our middle school marching band. After we did a halftime show my father said to me, "you were the only one marching in step!".
You writing that nobody else got your intended humor reminds me of that story.
January 31st, 2024 at 8:36 AM ^
It's an inside joke and he's the only one in on it.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:31 PM ^
I believe Jim is working on creating the "Jim Harbaugh Pull It Down Championship collective fund"
January 30th, 2024 at 5:45 PM ^
The Jim Harbaugh Memorial Cheeseburger Collective. I will fund.raise for the collective tomorrow, for a cheeseburger today.
January 30th, 2024 at 10:43 PM ^
Pepsi should be getting in on this.
I could think of a good skit with the players as actors.
January 30th, 2024 at 8:22 PM ^
I don't know why, but the "pull it down, you did that" stuff cracks me up every time. Not sure if it's how nonsensical it sounds when said with conviction, but I can't get enough. I hope this saying stays a "thing" on Mgo.
I don't think there's any stronger form of positive reinforcement than to turn toward someone, look them directly in the eyes, and utter "pull it down, you did that" with feeling.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:01 PM ^
We should hit up Harbaugh to donate to the "Need to Find Replacements for All the Coaches Heading to the Chargers" fund...
January 30th, 2024 at 4:26 PM ^
Oh please. If Minter and Herbert want to go to the NFL good for them. If Harbaugh wants to hire them that's OK too. Harbaugh came home for nine years to return our sorry excuse for a football program to its rightful position. And he leaves after winning a National Championship. Thanks coach. And for those who choose to follow him I wish the best.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:08 PM ^
Absolutely, Harbaugh took his people. Indentured servitude went out of vogue long ago. Minter to use one example is doing what he thinks is best for Minter. We are fortunate that our need and his career path intersected when they did. Wish them the best and maybe consider what they tell the players; 'next man up'.
January 31st, 2024 at 1:11 AM ^
"Oh please." How does any of what you wrote make his post any less accurate?
A little overly sensitive and dramatic, no?
There was nothing unappreciative about the post you're responding to. It was just a joke about Harbaugh providing NIL to replace the coaches that went with him to LA.
But by all means, continue to lecture us on the impact of Jim Harbaugh as if we didn't experience those same 9 years you did.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:07 PM ^
I would imagine that if he was in any other job he could but I would put money that if frowned on by the NFL as a potential illegal inducement for potential future players
January 30th, 2024 at 4:09 PM ^
Time for Sarah to step up
January 30th, 2024 at 4:33 PM ^
Let them frown
January 30th, 2024 at 4:36 PM ^
By "frown" I mean most likely specifically spelled out with severe penalties
January 30th, 2024 at 6:54 PM ^
Severe penalties? I’m sure if this falls into even a slightly gray area within the rulebook that the NCAA and Big Ten would interpret it leniently and grant Jim an exception.
After all, it’s not like he’d be causing the greatest scandal in history or endangering player safety or anything.
January 30th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
From who? They can’t regulate this
January 30th, 2024 at 8:00 PM ^
This would be an NFL violation, not NCAA. Inducement for players to sign with you when free agents by giving them money now.
January 30th, 2024 at 9:08 PM ^
Yes, and no they can’t
January 30th, 2024 at 4:46 PM ^
Are coaches different than players? There was some talk a week or so ago about CJ Stroud donating to his school's fund. I have no problem with that (other than CJ's school choice.)
January 30th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
Yeah I imagine he won’t be allowed to just like how Matt Ishbia had to stop his NIL donations once he owned the Phoenix Suns.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
There's a draft, so players can't come into the league and pick a team who's coach donated to a college NIL program.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:15 PM ^
I can think of a a few Michigan basketball players who left because they got a guarantee that they’d be drafted either in the lottery or first round. D.J. Wilson and Poole for sure. I think Houston and Diabate got guarantees from some team even though they were second round picks.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:16 PM ^
warde won’t accept the money
damn you warde
January 30th, 2024 at 4:57 PM ^
Fire Warde for Harbaugh not donating more money!
January 30th, 2024 at 5:02 PM ^
Warde would take the money paint the concrete outside and near Michigan stadium with murals of himself. Its transformational!
The recruits will love it! They get to walk on painted concrete designed by Warde!
Reminds me of this time I worked for this place and they said I was a great worker very hard worker reliable and smart. So they wanted to give me a 25 cent raise. I said lol the place down the street offered me more hours and a 3 dollars per hour raise. They said I’ll give you 50 cents more and one free dinner. I said I can make the cost of that dinner up in a shift. You have to be kidding me. Nope same concept. A gold star in your planner, pizza party type for your hard work instead of here’s your true value with a check.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:21 PM ^
Try a venn diagram.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:25 PM ^
I don't see why not.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:37 PM ^
Thanks. I’m hoping we can keep our defense together. I’ve been reading that other schools are tampering and offering our players large amounts of $$ to play elsewhere, specifically Graham and Grant.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:39 PM ^
Obviously tampering is a concern, but I feel like the culture we have here doesn't lend itself to players who would be easily lured away by bags of cash for one year.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:46 PM ^
Gee - wouldn’t it be nice if the NCAA actually gave a damn about something that actually affects the competitive balance of the game and offered players rewards for turning in people and schools who are involved in tampering???
January 30th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
Gee wouldn’t it be nice if Michigan got in the game instead of turning its nose up?
January 30th, 2024 at 9:01 PM ^
Gee, it will be nice when the mods finally send you to Bolivia.
You're the worst!
January 30th, 2024 at 4:26 PM ^
Yes, and he actually might do that if WM ever leaves
January 30th, 2024 at 4:54 PM ^
What does WrestleMania have to do with this?
January 30th, 2024 at 4:57 PM ^
Not wrestle mania, silly! Its Wal Mart
January 30th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
He has been championing players getting a piece of the pie for months now. NIL is a small piece of it. We all know collectives are a shell game for people to dump money into...
You mean to tell me that Michigan can barely crowd source a million dollars while OSU can miraculously find $13 million + for recruits?
January 30th, 2024 at 4:44 PM ^
I too am confused by this.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:49 PM ^
UofM grads are more responsible with their money.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
Or Michigan doesn’t want to divert money away from funding stupid projects that would be easily paid for with a team on the national stage each and every year.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:06 PM ^
Money buys talent, money buys wins, money buys happiness. Saving money is for sad losers
January 30th, 2024 at 6:54 PM ^
I’m a very sad loser then, dang, thought I was on to something….
January 30th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
Give us time. We're kind of new to this, ohio has been doing it for years.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
Isn't Harbaugh both a former player and a former coach?
January 30th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
Tawm Brady
January 30th, 2024 at 5:09 PM ^
This was Warde's master plan.
Let Jim walk so he can donate to NIL.
Warde will accept all your apologies now.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:19 PM ^
I'm sure the NCAA would somehow consider that a Level I violation and brand it as giving an unfair advantage.
