42 and the incontrovertible science of numerology
As a Michigan grad who took much math and physics, I of course know that numerology is solid science. And 42 is starting to exert numerological significance upon our football destiny.
This year, it all started with Michigan beating anOSU 42-27.
Then beating Iowa 42-3 to be Big10 Champions.
Looking at Big10 representation in the CFP, we have 2014 OSU, 2015 MSU, 2016 OSU, 2019 OSU, 2020 OSU, and now 2021 Michigan. Four OSU's, and two teams from Michigan.
Of those so far, 2014 OSU won it all by beating (along the way) Indiana 42-27, Michigan 42-28, and in the CFP, Alabama 42-35 and then Oregon 42-20.
2021 minus 2014 is 7, which is a divisor of 42.
In addition to all of this, we know from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy that 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
I think all of you know what this means.
Yes, my friends. Good things.

Hmm.
I didn't intend this to be a diary, but I don't see any way to change that now.
So . . . 42.

Well, it is the meaning of life...
Oh, and I have to add that Caden made that interception with 4:21 left in the game
Hail to the Blue, hail to the Blue! (I can't get that 2015 theater students rendition of the song out of my head, lol)

I thought what Harbaugh said at the end was interesting. It sounded like they were trying to score 42 at the end to honor the Oxford shooting victim. This made the very aggressive approach at the end of the game make more sense, I had been wondering what Iowa did to piss him off before I heard that.

Harbaugh got on camera with a "we got a chance to be a one seed." Win with cruelty

Is that a fart at the end of the twitter vid?

If I weren’t so lazy I’d mock up a picture of Harbaugh with Spock’s beard from Mirror, Mirror.

While I don’t put much, if any, stock in numerology, I was very glad to see JJ ram the ball down the field one last time. I had a $10 bet with a former boss (Sparty grad) on the over. The points for the O/U were 43.5. It was the cherry on top of the sundae of beating his ass on the spread. 42 lives in a smallish corner of my heart.

But wasn't the book's posed question, how much is seven times eight ...
December 5th, 2021 at 10:09 AM ^
also, I believe this is TEAM #142
December 5th, 2021 at 10:53 AM ^
What was the question?
December 5th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
The question was, how much is 7 times 8. :-)

I was thinking about how, in 2006, both us and Ohio State were undefeated going into The Game. Bo died the night before that game, then we lost. We ended up going to the Rose Bowl, not the Championship game for a rematch,, and lost to USC. Since then, we've had an extraordinary string of bad luck -- bad juju, some might say. Then this year, we find out that Bo wasn't the guy everyone thought he was. His posthumous grasp on the football program loosens and the tides start to turn for us. Back to that 2006 Michigan Ohio State game: the score was 42-39.

Wait a minute. That is a little weird. Going to meditate on this

Also, not really related, but since the appropriateness of grown men wearing sports jerseys has been debated ad Infinitum on this space (Probably not appropriate, but the fashion police are more in the wrong, IMO), the one article of clothing I do own with an athlete’s number is a Laker shirt of James Worthy’s uniform, who wore #42

And the win occurred on 12/4/21, a palindromic date with a 42 in it each way.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT

I'd like to send some props to Western Michigan, the happened to play three conferences champions this year and beat two of them. My guess is, no other MAC team has ever done that. Victories over Pitt and a 42 - 21 win over NIU.

Don’t forget Michigan is 2 and Cincinnati is 4 so of course that will be the Nat Championship game

I feel like this thread needs a "Comments: Commence. Yes." in it.

And when we go to the national championship, that will be played in 2022 (twenty, twenty-two): 20 + 22 = 42

The great Jackie Robinson wore #42. Talk about uphill battles and bravery.

We entered the game with . . . 42 Big Ten titles all-time.

I thought the whole Oxford thing was both cool to honor the kid and a bit morbid. The kid is a hero and deserved to be celebrated, but they probably haven't even had his funeral and the parents are at the B1G championship. What a weird spot to put a parent in? Do you want to honor your son in front of the world or do you want get your mental shit together after having your son shot to death but a nutjob?
I guess there are no good solutions in situations like this.

I had similar thoughts. We almost cancelled our own trip because of the timing. I think your last thought is correct. U of M made a nice gesture to fly them down there and they accepted. They were probably back home within the hour.

Regarding numerology, when my son was a freshmen in college, a teammate of his committed suicide. It was the most awful thing imaginable. It was in October so he didn't really know the kid, who was a junior, or anyone else very well for that matter. The kid wore #34. That season, the team had 34 wins, a program best. It really seemed like divine intervention. When tragedy strikes a family like that, I think any kind of positive sign is affirming.

42 is the ASCII code for * which is the wildcard ("everything" or more poetically "whatever you want it to be") symbol.
