That, or he started…

That, or he started disliking the spread of money the day Saban retired and turned the well-oiled Alabama Money Pipeline over to DeBord.  Where does Finebaum get off passing judgement on College Football?  He's an unattractive attention whore who's listened to the praise of morons for way too long. What he says has no meaning, it is the sound of a hollow horn.

I thought the spring game,…

I thought the spring game, with almost no play by starters and a split defense, was all I needed to see.  We have as much talent on this year's defense as we had last year, with the possible exception of having a field general like Sanristil on the field.  One of the many candidates will have to step up, and I believe one or more of our DL, LBs, and Secondary will nicely fill the void.  We Will Be a Beast on Defense This Year.  To Hell with OSU and their pretensions to defensive grandeur, They've had the best talent on Defense in the B!G for years, but bogged it down with the worst coaching.  Need Proof?  Just look at how they performed against the best offenses they played last year.  They don't have the heart to be the best, so what is going to make this year any different?  More Talent?  HaHaHaHaHaHa!

The guy was the lead…

The guy was the lead director for American International Pictures.  His list of introduced actors and directors is stunning.  I just remember being a kid and mesmerized by "Little Shop of Horrors" on Schock Theater.  He knew what sold.  RIP Roger.

This year’s team is the best…

This year’s team is the best start to finish coaching job I’ve seen around here in a while. Way to go, Bonnie!

Is it safe to assume that one of the ESPN channels will be carrying them at 4:00?

He had just enough left in…

He had just enough left in the tank when he felt that Wisconsin dude off his right shoulder.  Given the rate at which his pursuer was closing on him, he needed some special effort in the last 3-4 strides to hold him off.  Way to go, NTTB!

To me, Hugh Freeze is the…

To me, Hugh Freeze is the big shocker in this crowd.  God done touched him with a golfing mission.  Work those converts on the back nine, coach.

My brother worked with…

My brother worked with Thompson in the summer of 1970, and while I never met him (they worked in Southfield), he did introduce my brother to Star Corned Beef Deli on 12 mile just west of Telegraph.  The MC5 was the gift that just kept giving.  Trendy punk bands in the mid-70s (you know who you are…) owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

Sleep Well, Mr. Thompson

So they aren’t playing…

So they aren’t playing Mercer, but rather Notre Dame at noon on Sunday.  Any chance that one of the other ESPN cable outlets have it?   OP could be just a little bit more direct in it’s messaging.

Bless you for sending off…

Bless you for sending off your FIL.  Those boys in Korea deserve recognition that was denied them by the long shadow of WW II

The 38 was saddled with…

The 38 was saddled with older Allison engines, they would have been something with a pair of Merlins, though.  I believe that the Corsair shot down more planes than any other american fighter in the war was the Mustang, of course, but the Navy ran a good race with the F6F Hellcat.  That got to do a lot of mop-up duty against inexperienced Jap pilot in 1943-45 in the Pacific Theater.  Still, it was a close second to the Mustang.

When I was younger, playing a lot of video games was the domain of No Sex Ever.  Hopefully, that aspect of the gamer's life has gotten better with time.

I attended their last appearence in the basement of the Library 2 or 3 years ago, it was a hoot.  don't know how they'll manage the crowd without tickets, though.*

  • I could be way off when this happened, in hindsight,  no one was wearing masks, so it was pre-covid, maybe? call it 5 years ago, then...

No I don’t, and I will back up my claim with a link to a Dan Carlin podcast on the subject:

It should be noted that the 30’s and 40’s were the pinnacle of boxing. Boxers from that era would destroy modern boxers. They trained harder, fought way more frequently, and were craftier than today’s muscled bound palookas.

Jessie stands alone in the…

Jessie stands alone in the world of track and field.  No CFB rivalry can diminish what he did on that field. We are privileged to having been witness to it.

I though leaving one's feet…

I though leaving one's feet to initiate a check merited a major penalty at the least, and this particular instance looks game misconduct worthy.  What on earth is Trouba thinking?  Checking the box score, it looks like that was only a 2 minute penalty for boarding.  What's next for Hockey? Fistfights?

“I don't want to sound…

“I don't want to sound insensitive but c'mon”

Words to live by. Also an opportunity for self examination, although you might not be using the right tool for the job.

 Calls to mind the tornado…

Calls to mind the tornado that buzz cut Dexter about a decade ago. Sky south of us turned green, and you were thankful that’s as close as it got (in our case, about 3 miles). If you know where to look, you can still see where a swath was cut through woods.

If you’re looking for…

If you’re looking for evidence establishing how important player development and program culture is to on-field success, look no further than this.  We don’t start with 5 star recruits on the OL, but they’re NFL-grade when we get done with them.  The Michigan Difference.

Way too many end of season injuries at QB. Not enough depth.

RIP, Mr. Hill.  A grim morn, and a glad day, and a golden sunset.

He chewed up the scene whereby Gandalf bonked him with his staff and chased that no good Saruman out of his brainola.  And, I thought he went down with the Titanic...

As they say in Dodgeball, …

As they say in Dodgeball, 'It's a bold move, Cotton', but my plan would be to play stifling defense with my starters and rotate Rice between G/F enough to find him 30 minutes a game.  As my name implies, I believe that defense wins championships.

Smells of recency bias at…

Smells of recency bias at the center position, but as they say 'User name checks out'.  Phil Hubbard, particularly before his injuries, was certainly the best center we ever had.  I like Vladdie's starting 5, but I wouldn't play Weber at center, he's a power forward.  Rice gets to be the sixth man in my rotation, and I'm liking the notion of having his scoring off the bench (the Michigan Microwave?).

Didn't have to pass the ball…

Didn't have to pass the ball to move the chains in the second half against PSU.  /Chortles, then chortles again

Beat me to the same…

Beat me to the same observation, Mr. Hintz.  OTOH, we had a QB who could deliver the ball.  Consider the MgoBlog Radio shows from early in the season, where they made a short section of the offensive review going through each of JJ's (very few) incompletions.

Terrible tragedy for all…

Terrible tragedy for all involved. What's with former athletes dying in their mid-30's? I guess Death is a better tackler then poor Obi.  RIP, Mr. Ezeh.

They’re certainly in the conversation about the most weasly and self-promoting team in the country.

1967 was the last Stanley…

1967 was the last Stanley Cup won by Toronto and the last Cup for the Original Six. As a youth, I was still pissed at the Leaf’s for beating Gordie and my Red Wings in ‘64. Montreal beat us in ‘66,  so I didn’t care who won in ‘67.  My attitude about the Leafs has softened since my pond hockey days. Can’t say the same for Les Habitats.

Thanks for the tip, XM.  I'm a Red Wings guy going back to the original six, but I would love to see Punch Imlach's old team win the cup again.  Been too long.

May 4, 8 p.m. (ABC/ESPN+)

Also, Hot gambling tip: Don't bet on the Leafs...

I hope his return isn’t…

I hope his return isn’t conditional on only WR snaps. I don’t like the message it sends to the rest of the team, and I imagine the senior leadership won’t like it, either. We’ve had a good run with everyone committing to what’s good for the team.

The Costanza Principle: do the opposite of what you think you should.

I don't know about the rest…

I don't know about the rest of you, but I want my Michigan degree to mean something more than association with elite sports programs.  I do welcome such an association, but for me, and the vast majority of alumni, a degree from Michigan was a stepping stone to a long and profitable career.

This, like vestigial tails…

This, like vestigial tails or those really long roots on our canine teeth, is one of the last remnants  of the NCAA's control over athletes.  I can't wait for this to go to court and get bounced out of the continuum.  The NCAA was birthed in exploitation and nurtured by greed. It's stain needs to be wiped from the earth.

This is like the…

This is like the rehabilitation work Saban used to do at Bama, except on a minor scale.  I hope Brian can find redemption, particularly in the sense that you never knew the degree to which "Daddy" constrained or influenced Brian's poor decision making at Iowa.  A fresh start out from under the shadow of Kirk Ferentz should, at least, answer that question.

Okay, Okay, I get it.  "User…

Okay, Okay, I get it.  "User Name Checks Out", I'll spare you the trouble...

As this becomes increasingly…

As this becomes increasingly 'play for pay', the cost to put a good team on the field will have to increase and the motivation to build more infrastructure (yet more cost) will also drive higher costs at the elite (and asperational) end of the spectrum.  All of these increased costs will be footed by the end user.  This is unsustainable in the long run, and more the loss for those of us who remember when the game's function was to represent the student body and university is a positive and relatable way.  Now it going to be like buying Taylor Swift tickets.

My first thought was 'About…

My first thought was 'About Time', but Kickass straightened my out by reminding me that the institutions have 150 years of only looking at ways to exploit student athletes, so what's the likelyhood that gonna change now?

I played rugby in college and the post game bash put on by the host side never had any hint of animosity, just a ton of fellowship.  I saw the same thing between OSU and UM players I’ve known over the years.

While I agree it's just a…

While I agree it's just a game, it also serve as a point of focus in how respective fan bases judge each other, i.e. the old amnty/emnity complex. It's what we do as a species.  But the for the people who play the game, they have way more in common with each other than with individuals in their fan bases.  They can 'see' each other as fully formed people, not cardboard cutouts, and the distinctions we see as rival fan bases mean much less to them.  At least that's the impression I've gathered over the years.
