meta: Slashcomments implemented
You'll probably notice that the comments are completely different. They suck way, way less now.
1. Permalinks
2. New comment notification
3. Moderation revamp
4. No more awful pale blue
On #3: once you get 100 points you will be able to moderate by choosing a positive or negative descriptor (or "Normal," for whatever reason). Positive will add a point to the comment, negative will take one away. Anything less than one--the default starting point--will be automatically collapsed. Click to embiggen. Logged-in users can set a lower or higher threshold for collapsing.
Userpoints are not hooked up to this new system, but that is next on the list. I think I'm going to have to sponsor development for that so it might not be immediate. I'm also going to make some small usability tweaks (less date, more headline, for one).
It works for IE (I even checked this time!) but there is a bizarre and unfortunate CSS bug that makes the author pane scarlet and grey. I'll work on that but, as always, STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Until I fix it just stare at that horrible color combination. Yeah.
UPDATE: I changed the setting so people participating in the thread can moderate it. Also I hacked out half of the admittedly-excessive options available in the dropdown.
I'm not seeing any type of moderation or +/- control, though.
I was able to +1 Brian, but other than I see no other +/- control/moderation either
There's a little drop box under the comment. Choose a description and points are applied accordingly (I think).
EDIT: After I posted this I don't see the moderation stuff.
for no reason other than it sounded awesome.

So this means our posbang and negbang threads can become even more sophisticated!
I for one am excited for the first redundantbang thread
How you can be "+5, normal". How do you plus a person with "normal"?
I've "normal"-ified a couple of posts at +2 or +3, and normal or no, they stayed at +2 or +3. I think the word used to describe the score is a composite of all the mod votes the post has received, so if there's 6 "insightful" and 1 "trolling", it's probably going to show "insightful", for instance. Further investigation is clearly needed.
I'm having the same problem - after you comment on a thread, you can no longer moderate any of the comments on that thread.
I don't even have that option. My posts all start at 0 (instead of 1) and I can't moderate on any thread (whether I've commented or otherwise). I think I'm also seeing comments in reverse order.
I see a box with "Normal" and a looong dropdown menu which has: "Offtopic, Flamebait, Trolling, Redundant, Insightful, Interesting, Informative, Funny, Overrated, Underrated." Then a "Moderate" button.
Edit: Or at least I did a minute ago.
It appears that I can moderate in almost all the other threads. The ones that I cannot for certain at the moment is this thread and the Bri'onte Dunn thread. Are you able to moderate the others?
I checked a few other threads and don't see that stuff at the moment. Perhaps it is being worked on?

I heard he put on quite a show in Ypsi.
I looked for a "ballin" tag in the moderation wheel, but didn't find one so I gave you a "funny" rating. Your score increased by one.
That seems like a great addition to the drop down menu.
I just tested the moderate button out on you... my bad.
Can't wait to check out the new features and for pos-bangs and neg-bombs to return. you da man, brian
Scarlet and grey? Must be Angry MGoBlog Hating God playing with us. Don't worry, I'm on the Android app!

The first post ever to attain greyed out status (even if momentarily) on MGoBlog. This time next year, there will have been thousands. But yours will always be the first, wear it like a badge.
5. f7u12 faces now work
If you're using IE, you deserve what happens to you.

but unfortunately the draconian IT policies at my new job forbid the use of standardized browsers. The scarlet and gray is truly hideous. At least I no longer live in Ohio.

says it can't use IE.
Until they obediently respond to my demand to be able to read college football internet sites during work, I don't have any choice!

(How can you put in a system less than a year ago and still have IE as your preferred browser??)
you are still able to download and use Chrome.
The names and pictures of the users seem a little small, and kind of cluttery though.
EDIT: Once you comment in a thread you lose the ability to moderate a comment, thats been the case for me atleast. I've tried a couple different times and both times the "Moderate" button disappeared.
Same problem here once I commented I can't moderate this thread.
Will this new moderation setup eventually be implemented on the MGODROID app? I don't see a change on it as of now.
Good question!
We will be looking into these new changes and how we may be able to implement them in the near future, In the meanwhile, hang tight! More MGoDroid updates are coming soon!

that the MGoDroid guys (and perhaps ladies... I don't discriminate) kick ass!! I emailed them about a problem I was having w/ the app and heard back from them three times in about an hour to make sure everything was squared away.
Love the new app, MGoDroid team!!
Again, thank you and your team for all of your effort on the MGoDroid app. +1
I guess I need to get my point total up so that I can partake in these cool new features.
This is overwhelming. I just want to click buttons and do all these things we could never do before.
Yes, I lived a sheltered childhood.
The blue had a cleaner look. This looks cluttered. I especially don't like the red around the avatars. No Red please.
really?
maybe the "Moderate" options provide more information that is helpful to Brian as to what's really going on. Someone getting neg-fucked all the way to Columbus doesn't really tell much other than douchey comment.

This post currently has a 'Trolling' label with a +2 score, which seems contradictory. Is this new system of moderation, designed to weed out trolls, instead going to foster a new breed of super-trolls who can make even the most seasoned message board posters scream in agony? Film at 11.
I agree. Options are bad.
Option is good, but only if Denard is running it.
I see what you did here. +1 to you

It's just too busy. Personally, I really don't like having everything everywhere. Simplicity doesn't seem conducive to better moderation, but at some point, too much is too much.

I actually think it could be useful once Brian makes moderation affect MGoPoints. Similar to Slashdot, an interesting, insightful, or informational post could increase your point total more than just posting an unrelated funny picture. Simlarly, pure trolling could hurt your point total more than mistakenly double posting, although it would be nice if both were greyed out.
April 27, 2011 and you were there. For the poor misguided souls using IE, it is even a red letter day, so to speak.
