Am I missing something? Is this sarcasm? I’ve felt Xtra’s post are always measured and insightful, but dumb states?

We’re certainly happy how our state is handling it in Florida. Glad you are too. No need to be uncivil.

There is a moment you can…

There is a moment you can see Juwan take a quick two steps back, reacting out of fear/instinct from something the Maryland coach did. At that moment, you can’t make out what the coach is doing, but the split second before he’s marching toward Juwan yelling and shaking a finger/fist at him. I think Juwan got rattled by whatever happened in that moment, which was likely what Juwan called “charging him,” and which we see made him jump back instinctively. My guess is he responded in a reaction to getting rattled in a fight of flight response he didn’t expect.

Why is Sam saying he could…

Why is Sam saying he could stay on as an analyst?

And we chose Gattis over Warriner?!?

A fair point, thank you. I would love to see the CBs improve, and so much of success in this landscape is recruiting.

Upvoted for enthusiasm…

Upvoted for enthusiasm unknown to Mkind.

Obviously we do not know how…

Obviously we do not know how the new staff will work out. Hopefully we will have a major turnaround in the fall. We all want that, idealists and realists alike. But for those criticizing posters for lowering expectations, could you offer a positive analysis from the resumes of the new staff that is stronger than the resumes of the ones we let go?

They shot the cannon at…

They shot the cannon at elite coaches, and they missed. So they shot it at Maryland, a DC whose first position coaching season was 2018, and their own program. And they got ‘em!

Embarrassment?

Embarrassment?

This is only a good thing if…

This is only a good thing if Urban is hired by Jacksonville. If so, cue applause.

Sure, but he could make his…

Sure, but he could make his way up over time. I doubt he started as associate head coach at Indiana, but perhaps I'm wrong. This is how I would deal with a potential future leader, anyway. Promotion at the time and in the way that's ready. I'm always looking for how to cultivate leadership growth. Even if they don't do it intentionally, I'm sure his natural coaching progression will reach that point eventually. I expect he will be a head coach after being a coordinator somewhere.

WOW, this is something I and…

WOW, this is something I and a few others suggested earlier this year. Very excited about this possibility. What is most exciting to me is two-fold:

1. He can be prepared in-house for eventual Michigan head coaching position, which he's stated is his ultimate dream. There is no more successful way to develop leaders than grow and prepare them within a program/company. Much less room for failure from unknowns when you promote the known.

2. He is an inspirational leader, and this is the one quality we appear to have clearly lacked on our staff. A guy who fires up the team. Very excited based on this leadership intangible.

Great point!

Great point!

Not an inspiring career arc…

Not an inspiring career arc. But the man’s doing what he loves with his son, and he’s a multimillionaire. Good luck to him.

OSU got their face kicked in…

OSU got their face kicked in by Bama. Who’s to say Oklahoma or Texas A&M wouldn’t have kicked in faces, as well? Honestly, I would’ve liked to see Florida face off against OSU with how well they played Alabama. They almost won and looked competitive the whole game.

I don’t know. Is getting…

I don’t know that the four teams are at their own level or that the best teams were clearly determined. Is getting blown out by 28 “at” Alabama’s level? And it wasn’t particularly predicted OSU would handle Clemson. So what are the levels of the three exactly?

To make it more complex, Florida played a heck of a game against Alabama and could’ve won by a shoestring (or hurdle). The Gators are the only team that seemed like an equal competitor to Alabama this year. Certainly not OSU.

Also, a playoff containing the same four teams is self-fulfilling. Who can say it was a confirmation of the best despite its flaws? Alabama was special, but none of the other three looked it for each of the games they lost in January.

This is why playoffs happen and why they should include more teams.

I liked that this was a logically well-thought out argument on why not to watch the championship. I’m still going to watch it, but I upvoted because it is more intelligently defended applying a study and reason than most board posts.

I edited my comment, because…

I edited my comment, because I think it’s more pertinent. There’s no reason for us to have sides other than Michigan’s on this blog, IMO.

You didn’t say asshole? You…

If you’d posted this without commentary, you’d have gotten no pushback.

My guess is you wouldn't…

My guess is you wouldn't return recruit or player calls if you are hoping upon hope for one of two jobs that won't happen and you want to hold onto your honor with the recruits on the off chance it does. And you continue doing your job in all other areas because you expect 99% chance that you'll still be there.

Yes, in the Jimmy and the Jets thread.

We hired another former…

We hired another former Florida head coach out of the south for an assistant position in McElwain. It could happen. Besides, Harbaugh doesn’t often make predictable choices.

For me, Pinball Pete’s was a favorite hangout as a high-schooler. I met girls there, learned how to flirt (and how not to), and had great times playing pool with high school friends. Definitely fun memories.

I know he’s a great DC. I…

I know he’s a great DC. I would be enthused under any circumstances other than the intangibles of us having perceived leadership/player connection problems. Yelling is one thing and can be very inspiration, light fires and so on. This guy spits vitriol in kids faces and cusses them out. I watched him every game for three years straight. If we have a few other coaches with leadership qualities, great. It’ll balance out. He’s a skilled DC.

But I don’t think he’s a leader from watching how he treats players.

Man, that guy’s a yeller. I…

Man, that guy’s a yeller. I’m not sure about his DC credentials (think he’s good), but after watching my wife root for his Florida teams I think this Michigan staff could use someone who can connect with and lead players by inspiration.

I would add:

I would add:

—Great mid-game adjustments

Brown may have been a great schematic coach, but he was not this. I would make great mid-game adjustments one of my four. I think it’s an essential that separates the most successful coaches from the rest since coaching is a chess game of strategy.

Losing Mattison was a bungle…

Losing Mattison was a bungle. Have to call it a mishandling from how it looks in the cheap seats. He probably should’ve been DC from the start. He brought a tough D. Not having an idea of his feelings and preventing his leaving is hard to reconcile.

Really like that guy. Good…

Really like that guy. Good for him. I expect he’ll be an improvement.

Where are you hearing that?

Where are you hearing that?

This one. We’re not going to…

This one. We’re not going to reach .500. It might be a two-win season.

Bring Mike Hart home as an…

Bring Mike Hart home as an assistant for Mike Hart and no other reason. There are two persuasive arguments why:

1. We need his enthusiasm on the sideline. This is Harbaugh’s greatest weakness, reportedly—pumping up players to bring it the intensity, especially in hostile or uninspiring environments. It’s also Hart’s greatest skill.

2. Mike Hart’s dream is to be head coach at Michigan one day. He’s not ready yet career-wise, but he will be someday and there’s no better way to know when than by developing him in the program. While there is never a guarantee of success, promoting from within is often the surest bet in any industry, and we should grow Hart for the role as one possible investment in our future.

Why isn’t Urban Meyer on…

Why isn’t Urban Meyer on that list? They can’t even conceptualize him coming in a conjecture piece. Lol.

The problem with all of this…

The problem with all of this, if true, is it completely out of touch leadership. We aren’t living in some day when “tough it out,” never calling in sick, speaking louder than others in the huddle, and forcing kids to practice when injured or sick is valued. That was the generation Harbaugh grew up in, not this one.

In this one, you have to be flexible with kids who expect better and different treatment from the 1970s to lead them. Because they are the ones actually being led and they won’t let you unless you treat them with the respect expected in this generation.

People don’t seem to…

People don’t seem to understand that being a landlord is just a business, like being a small business owner, stock investor, or employee for another owner. It’s not all rich misers looking down at others. Some of them are people who don’t make much money and owning a property that nets a little income beyond the mortgage is a small part of it that keeps them above water. For others, it’s their only retirement income.

The stigma against real estate owners is antiquated and needs to go. Plus, it can be a tough business when you have people who don’t pay regularly and/or abuse a place you invested your only investment capital in. Regardless, there are “small“ landlords who serve people quickly and are nowhere near the big business stereotype most people think of.

I’m in Vero Beach, Florida,…

I’m in Vero Beach, Florida, and I love it here. Quiet, well-kept beach community. Sure, the average age is high, but we go to parks by the ocean with pizza shops and Kilwin’s (of all places), we go boating on the intercoastal river, and we are a 15 min or less drive to multiple beaches and surf spots.

The one secret to Florida living is being in a pool house. Because we have one, finally, we wish for every hot summer day. Those are the best pool days.

I’ll add it’s an awful place to be single and try to meet people. The same locals frequent the same bars, and it can be frustrating when that’s the prospects. Great place to have a family if your social circle is mostly in the home and in family or friends.

I thought this was going to…

I thought this was going to be a post about how fashion has dictated that beards are no longer "in."

The fear is people will go…

The fear is people will go to the store specifically to buy paint. Then they’ll go home and paint their houses. The idea is people will travel around others during quarantine to do quarantine projects instead of going to work and it’ll defeat the purpose of the quarantine.

Why don’t they just fire…

Why don’t they just fire these guys in the first place? How hard is that really? Why do competent employees get fired for situations beyond their control, yet these guys can operate with no accountability for decades? I don’t get it. Life isn’t fair. I just don’t get how he wasn’t fired at the moment people knew.

Dang, I almost joined the wrestling team in 1998. Hrovat and I were the same grade. And with how good Hrovat was, I likely would have spent a lot of time with this doctor.

But it’s the board that…

But it’s the board that people like to check regularly. So honestly, it’s wherever the most regular commenting is that will have the readers.

Let’s fire all the haters on…

Let’s fire all the haters on this site and keep Harbaugh.

This post feels somewhat…

This post feels somewhat like validation for the Jedd Fisch love that has been under the radar. I’ve been saying for years we shouldn’t have let him go. Glad to hear others saying it, as well. Our offense was dynamic and exciting back then, and the quarterback performed well.
However, now I think we should keep Gaddis for a long time and let the guys transition to his style. They are improving and look like they could create a body of work for him, too.

You seem not to understand…

Everyone who expects us to be clicking along In year 5 doesn’t seem to understand the human element in changing offenses. College athletes are slow to process major, ultra-complicated changes. Winning isn’t automatic, and changing coaching staffs and systems is a process that takes time.
Translation: this isn’t year 5; it is year 1 with Gaddis. We’ll get there and last night was an important step.

Yeah, great game. Almost…

Yeah, great game. Almost made it there, which none of us expected. Great effort by everyone!
Honestly, this is the most encouraging game of the season, because losses will come but we never gave up in a very tough environment. I was worried giving up has been a couple year trend in big games we get behind. Lots of positives! Hopefully we play angry next week.

Pretty proud of the team…

Pretty proud of the team. Who expected that? Man, I’m impressed. And Shea made a great play, but it didn’t work out.

Any victory is a win for me.

Any victory is a win for me.

What observations led you to…

What observations led you to believe he was acting like a different person at that time?

I wonder if they're over…

I wonder if they're over-training and therefore exhausted from glycogen depletion. That is a common problem for teams when coaches heavily emphasize the ethos that working hard is the defining characteristic of a successful team. It can be difficult to get enough rest to replete glycogen stores in the muscles to function at the highest level.
