"Ya know what's interesting, your quarterback is Justin Herbert, H-E-R-B-E-R-T.  There was a QB for the Falcons, Bobby Hebert, no R.  I find that fascinating."

With the expanded playoff,…

With the expanded playoff, could you argue that games are both more meaningless and more meaningful at the same time?

Up to this point, once you lose say 2 games, you might be out, and players start thinking about their future a bit more.  Next year, you might have 3 losses and need to win out in November to have a chance.  Do players play through that then?

Honestly, my biggest gripe is how NIL has become what seems to be a signing bonus.  I thought it was to make money off of games, autographs, meet-and-greets, and the like.  But now there are kids who are millionaires before ever playing a down of college football.

There honestly seem to be…

There honestly seem to be some nightmare scenarios for the committee, and despite some of the drawbacks I am looking forward to the 12-team next year.

If Bama beats Georgia, Texas beats OK State, and FSU wins, how do they justify putting Texas in over Bama (with H2H victory)?  Does the SEC get left out?  Does undefeated FSU get left out?

If chalk plays out, you get Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, FSU (I think).  And that would be a tough matchup in the Rose Bowl against Oregon.

For your question, most favorable, I think the only way to play FSU is if Bama beats Georgia, MIchigan takes the top spot, and FSU finishes #4.

Saw something today on…

Saw something today on Twitter where someone said Partridge is gonna be "Deep Throat."  And while I don't necessarily believe that, it did get me thinking...in situations like this, how do they keep guys quiet?  Do they have NDAs?  Something tied to a buyout/financial comp?

Like, I feel like you never hear about a fired OC or something interviewing about transgressions from a former employer.

Look, I never bet on…

Look, I never bet on Michigan games.

But, if you're gonna take OSU to win the BIG, then you have to take them to beat Michigan.

I'm seeing them +175 against UM, then +190 to win the BIG.

I mean, it is crazy to see…

I mean, it is crazy to see that they ran from the middle of the 2nd quarter on, against a really good defense, and dominated the way they did.

But I think it was because it was working, eating up clock, and Penn State was doing nothing offensively so a pick and return or sack fumble was they only way to get them back in the game.

I think a pleasant side effect is that nothing flashy/new/tape-worthy for Ohio State was needed.

The crazy part to me was that there were threads and comments before the game where I recall some debates on "our running game has not been good, that spells trouble" vs. "we have a Heisman-caliber QB, get over it, pass to open the run"...and then the game plays out the way it did.

I have never worried about…

I have never worried about vacated wins (everyone knows what happened anyways)or punishment this season.

My fear all along has been that this whole thing sends current guys into the pros and Harbaugh leaves, and the cupboard is bare again like with Rich Rod.

Correct, I never played. …

Correct, I never played.  But I pitched in college.  And I can tell you that I believe I would have noticed if we had a guy who went up to our coach, told him something, our coach moved our corner infielders in, and then the hitter bunted.

I get that the players are talking to their position coaches, watching the game, trying to learn or contribute in anyway, but I also can't fathom that many guys not noticing something.

Again, they may not have known the depths of what was going on (if these daily reports are true), but I would have to think at least some of them saw.

Good point.

Honest…

Good point.

Honest question...do you think it was like Minter (and all coaches) thinking "Damn, you're good.  Please don't tell me or anyone how you got this good."???

I didn't phrase my original…

I didn't phrase my original very well.  I guess I meant the players had to know they had a guy who was exceptional at something sign-related.

There is no reason they should have known how he did it (if true, vast, whatever).  But, that many guys on the sideline, some not getting any game action at all, had to notice Stalions, had to see him talking to coaches/charts/etc. and realize "damn, he's good"

Sorry if this has come up in…

Sorry if this has come up in other threads, but some thing(s) I've been wondering:

1.  The players would have to know, right?  Like, not just an inkling but know?

2.  With today's landscape of coaches leaving and players transferring, wouldn't something like this be deemed even riskier?  What would be stopping Cade from saying something to an Iowa reporter?  Or Andrel Anthony at Oklahoma?  I'm not saying coaches don't cheat out of fear of some angry transfers, but...

So, here's what you do (do…

So, here's what you do (do you have a 401k?  Let's assume you have a 401k)...You dig into that bad boy, and you lay $770 to win $700 on your next bet.  If it hits, you're back to even.  If it loses, well, another early withdrawal and lay out like $1600 to win back your $1500.  This pattern is sure to work and has like a 0% chance of sending you into a spiraling debt.  You could also throw like $50 on a series of 10 team parlays to hit it big...how hard can it be to pick 10 games right???

Power 5 forms their own "league," with smaller conferences/divisions.  Consolidate recruiting services.  Each team has an allotment of "stars" they can use to sign players.

Ok...say they announce that this game is cancelled because OSU can't play.  Does the ACC then try to "cancel" their title game to get Clemson and ND in (you would imagine both are in as of now, right?).

I'll never forget, like 4…

I'll never forget, like 4 days after it, I was taking the dog for a walk, and I did that little slow jog to get across the street before a car...and my balls were like "No! Just let the car hit you."

I don't recall the left side…

I don't recall the left side/right side breakdown...and it didn't really feel all that bad later in the day I got it, or even the next day.  HOWEVER, on the 3rd day, holy shit my balls were so swollen and sore.  I was hurting, had a ton of bruising, and was gingerly walking.  Mine took about 10 days to really start to improve honestly.  And then suddenly it was just like back to normal.

Crazy thing was, I got mine at the end of February, two weeks before the shutdown.  When I called the doc to ask about getting a count, they told me they were not doing it at that time because of Covid.  I had to wait like another month or so until Illinois move to the less stringent restrictions.

Is that the negative…

Is that the negative recruiting right now?  "He's not going anywhere, settled in for a long time."???

Was about halfway up,…

Was about halfway up, between the goal posts, in the endzone where the TD occurred.  I was a teen, but I can recall the silence, and it feels like it lasted 5 minutes.  I'll never forget some guy in our section yelled "Fuck that!" and it seemed like everyone took that as the cue to head for the exits as quietly as possible.

I agree.  I have said in…

I agree.  I have said in several posts that OSU has the same number of 11+ win seasons since 2010 as Michigan has total.  There is a large part of the base that does not know success, and a large part that harkens back to the great run Bo had.

Which is why, again to my hypothetical, just the mere thought of double digit wins being a forgone conclusion would be enough for me.

edit: there are more games now, obviously, so more opportunities to win more games.  For the record, since 1960, Michigan has lost 2 or fewer regular season games 28 times, Ohio State has 38 seasons like that.

As would I, and I would be…

As would I, and I would be ecstatic to be following a consistently Top 10 team, winning lots of games, bringing in recruits, bowl wins.  But...if you don't even win your division more than once in a ten year span, is that elite?

My hypothetical was obviously extreme, but I would so be on board with that.

As lame as this sounds, it…

As lame as this sounds, it depends on what your definition of elite is.

Think of this scenario...every year, there are only 2 games on the schedule that are "loseable."  Say they do lose to OSU 5 out of every 6, but in most years either do not lose another game or potentially drop 1 (not including the bowl game).

I know OSU is THE GAME, and if you don't beat them you probably are not even playing for the BIG Title.  But a perpetual 11-1 or 10-2 team, playing in and hopefully winning major bowls, finishing in the top 10, would be great.  But is that elite???

I like Campbell...but Devil…

I like Campbell...but Devil's Advocate question here:

Being at a place like Iowa State, does Campbell have the luxury of sneaking up on teams?  Teams like Oklahoma get everyone's best shot, and they are bound to have days where they overlook a team.  Or, did the sneaking up go out the window the more they have pulled upsets?

Just thinking out loud (but not really, just typing) that Ohio State typically loses that random game to a Purdue who plays it like their National Championship.  Does Iowa State pull those same wins?

Oregon #2...was that when…

Oregon #2...was that when Dennis Dixon tore his ACL (in a loss at Arizona???) to derail their chances?

Was it a pick 6 though? …

Was it a pick 6 though?  Like, I don't recall him jumping an out and dropping it.  Thought it was more of a lofted ball that he just dropped.  I couldn't find a video???

I don't recall all of the…

I don't recall all of the details, and I don't care to look them up...but I vaguely remember thinking that that dropped interception (was it at like the 5???) would have swung the game.

I remember, not being happy…

I remember, not being happy that Barrett was out (because he actually seemed like a good kid and who wants to actually root for/cheer injuries), but more like "OK this is the chance."  Then Haskins was like, "No it's not."

Hypothetical for Warde (in a…

Hypothetical for Warde (in a world far far away)...

Michigan is 5-1 having lost to Wisconsin

Ohio State is 5-0, and Saturday's game would be for the division, winner take all.

Ohio State can't play due to outbreak.

Does he still want to adjust the game minimum?

I understand that this is a heavily loaded hypothetical, but you have to believe if it was directly affecting UM his thoughts would be different.

Indiana has had a great…

Indiana has had a great season, their defense has been taking the ball away, and their trajectory seems to be on the up.

But, to say they beat a top 8 team (Penn State) seems amiss.  They also beat Rutgers, UM, Sparty, and Maryland.  Winning at Wisconsin feels huge, but what is Wisky this year (beat Illinois and UM, had no chance to win the West based on games, and lost to the teams with a pulse)???

They've also forced like 20 turnovers in 7 games, which is awesome, but hard to replicate year after year.

Do I just have poorly tinted…

Do I just have poorly tinted Michigan glasses?  Or does it seem like when Michigan has had to go the backup recently (I know Cade played well in spurts) they seem so ill-prepared?

Would he say otherwise?  I…

Would he say otherwise?  I mean, this very well could be true, and at this time of the season it does seem likely...but were they expecting Harbaugh to say "Recruiting going good, good relationships.  Me?  Oh, no, I'm outty 5000."

Assuming a flip flop of…

Assuming a flip flop of going to MSU and getting Indiana at home...

I'll say 5-2 at home, loss to OSU and then one of Northwestern or Indiana (that feels kind of sickening to type going in to year 7 of what had such high hopes).

2-3 on the road, losing to Wisconsin, Penn State in what you would assume is a night white out, and then either Maryland or Nebraska.

This is planting the seed. …

This is planting the seed.  Short of a big outbreak, if Michigan doesn't play, you now have OSU fans and just people in general around the country questioning the validity of them not playing the game.

You pose a lot of really…

You pose a lot of really good thoughts/questions.  You need everything you mention, but the order is difficult.

You need a line to protect the QB and give whatever RBs you have a chance (otherwise you end up with a broken Devin Gardner type).  But those guys have to have skill/ability to take advantage of what the line does.

Early on, in the line's development (and probably at all times with the way football is now), you need a QB who can move and cover up line deficiencies.  You look at what Ohio State has had since what, Troy Smith, and how a mobile QB who can extend plays wreaks havoc in college football.  Those longer plays are what lead to pass interference/holding down field, late hits as LBs come chasing late, receivers coming free after coverage breaks down.

And...add in the fact that…

And...add in the fact that what seems/feels like the norm at OSU right now (12 plus wins, which they have done 9 of the last 15 years) has happened at Michigan twice EVER.

Agreed...is Michigan?

Agreed...is Michigan? (in the somewhat current sense)

For me, it's not all about…

For me, it's not all about wins and losses (I mean, obviously winning is better, but...).  I want a team that is competitive, exciting, and can evolve with the game.  So many Michigan games feel predictable.  As a Bears fan as well, I feel stuck in football purgatory with teams who insist on playing 1960s style run, run, run (please get a first down), punt, then let our nasty defense lay the wood.

I just want to see a keeping up with the times.  And that does not seem to be what Harbaugh has in mind.

For what it's worth, in terms of wins/losses...since Bo started in 1969, seasons with 4 plus losses (I picked the bluebloods that many of us might look to for comparisons):

Michigan - 20 (Bo only had 4) including this year

OSU - 13 (and only 3 since 2000)

Bama - 15

Clemson - 30 (turnarounds are possible!)

Georgia - 24

USC - 26

ND - 22

Oklahoma - 16 (only 3 since 2000 as well)

FSU - 23

That being said, my wife's family is more of a "let's make way too many appetizers, so 5 of them can be completely eaten and the other 12 have 2 bites taken out of them to appease every family member, and by dinner time there's not much room left."  So...we do that of course and I just sit back, appreciate the food, and drink.
