was a 3-9 Michigan State team improve to 10-3 (with one of those losses in triple OT) with NOTHING. After big losses due to suspensions. Playing walk-ons. Winning two games against top 10 opponents, plus a dominating bowl win. With NOTHING.
So please stop with the baloney about how many starters we lost after 2016. Please stop with the baloney about injuries, and the weather, and bad "luck" and other teams paying the refs to throw games, and the schedule makers and the Big Ten, and the NCAA, and the media, blah blah blah. Put the blame for one third place finish after another where it belongs. On the coaches.
Texas A&M and UCLA? They both signed national championship caliber coaches out of the blue, and neither has the prestige that Michigan does. Do you really think if they dangled what they're paying Harbaugh out there that nobody would be interested enough to leave another good job?
that we wouldn't be able to find another coach anywhere to do better than 8-5?
Hopefully the "We'll never find anyone better than Harbaugh!" defense will be put to rest soon...along with all of the other apologetics.
We've just been shouted down and negged to Bolivia by all of the Harbaugh apologists/cultists for the last three years. But they're running out of excuses and rationalizations.
is due to his actually having improved his rebounding skills, and how much is due to there simply being more defensive rebounds available, due to Wilson and Walton being replaced by Robinson and Simpson?
They don't always predict how good a player will be in college, but in general, 5 stars turn out better than 4 stars, and 4 stars turn out better than 3 stars. That's been indisputably demonstrated, over and over again, but some people here still think that if they cite a couple of exceptions (which nobody denies exist) that they have somehow proved the sweeping statement "stars don't matter!"
And of course, people only say that when we're landing 3 stars. When we actually get a commit from a 5 star, everyone is all over that as a huge deal.
And we would probably have to close out at least 5-2, and win two games in the BT tournament. We have the same handicap that we had last year, and in other past seasons...too many games against 300+ rated RPI teams. There's no fixing that, and it will probably knock our seed down one from what the more optimistic folk here are projecting.
of guys like him out there. Guys who had decent, but not great college careers, but who will persist in thinking that if they can just work on their jump shot, THEY'LL be the one out of hundreds who will magically transform into an NBA-level talent.
of declaring that everything will be fine simply because HARBAUGHHHHHHHHHH! is our coach.
And yes, sorry, overhype and disappointment do describe the last three years. 0-3 against OSU. 1-2 against MSU. 1-2 in bowls. Three middle-of-the-pack finishes in our division. A bunch of wins against weak teams, and epic choke jobs when things mattered. 8-5 in his third year, and still no sign of a quality quarterback, from a guy who was supposed to be the best developer of QBs on the planet. Huge bust on the O-line from a guy who was supposed to be an awesome developer of Olines. A team that was supposed to be contending for a NC this year still struggling to put the pieces together.
Until I see differently on the field, I will continue to classify Harbaugh as a perennial 9-3 coach.
It doesn't mean he's going to do any better this year, and that's all that really matters. Apologies don't put points on the board. Get the line in shape, or GTFO and make room for someone who can. There are lots of guys who'd love that job and could do it better than it's being down now.
And they didn't just find a copy of "How to Coach Football" by Nick Saban on the clearance table at Barnes and Noble. They either know how to do this job at this level by now or they don't.
Drevno has nothing to teach these kids this year that he didn't have last year.
They've had better seasons than 10-3 on multiple occasions. They have a proven quarterback. Nobody thought they had the talent to beat us and go 10-3 last year.
I put passwords on typed labels and fix them to paper or 3x5 cards. When I change a password, I just put a new label over the old one. I keep duplicates just in case, but nothing is stored on a computer, ever. Unhackable.
Anyone who tells you they can guarantee security of your personal information on a computer connected to the internet is lying. Period. If the NSA can be hacked, so can your little password storage service.
Sensible people knew this was a 9-3 team at best going in. People confidently predicting 11-1 were never worth taking seriously. The problem and the discouraging aspect of last season was how it progressed. Even realistic people expected that a team with a lot of young players would show a lot of improvement over the course of the season, and go into 2018 with some real momentum. We did the exact opposite. We collapsed at the end of the season, and ended 2017 with all of the same problems we started with, and that we'll still have going into 2018. Instead of going into next season riding a wave of success, it'll be yet another off-season of crossed fingers and people trying hard to convince themselves that "we'll be fine".
It's Harbaugh Year 4. Time to stop being satisfied with "fine". Time to retire "Enjoy the ride".
to compete at a NC level. Still too many holes on defense, too many guys who can't make enough plays against elite competition, and a nothingburger of an Oline.
No more excuses about how our players are too young to expect anything from them. True freshman were bringing it all over the field last night.
If not Matthews or Wagner, then someone else, though they would likely be a less vauable player.
Everyone took for granted that Wagner would be going early after this year, but so far, he does not seem to have stepped up his game significantly. Watching him this year, I don't find myself thinking "Yeah, NOW he's ready for the NBA!" Maybe he'll go anyway, just by default, but it's far from a sure thing. Matthews has looked better so far, but still has some holes in his game, and could definitely use another year. But all it ould take is a few highlight games at the end of the season for the NBA to just say what the hell, and grab him anyway.
and thinks it brings intangibles to Robinson's game that numbers don't measure. Or he thinks that his team will win more games in the long run if Livers has to work hard for the starting job and doesn't just have it handed to him on a plate.
Everyone has biases and blind spots, even Beilein. To assume that the only other possibility is that he would rather have us lose is extreme and a bit silly.
that he was a serial rapist, and they've been covering it up (the latest in a string of institutions to do so in his case). They know this thing would be a really ugly shitstorm if they didn't distance themselves from this guy right away (and hopefully it still will be, and everyone who covered up for him and protected him will be exposed). And he's a chickenshit coward who won't dare bring a lawsuit, because he knows if he does, all of his past history will be all over the national media. He knows he's caught out now, and he's as eager for this to fade away as Minnesota is.

I'm not an automotive engineer or a mechanic, but I know when my car isn't running right, even if I can't fix it myself.
to call everyone who criticzes Great Leader as a "Sparty troll", but it really makes you look like a blind Harbaugh cultist.
Point out one thing I've said that isn't absolutely true.
probably since before you were in diapers. So go do something.
Not Harbaugh.

the former are far, FAR more abundant on this board than the latter? Though I wouldn't bet on that being the case a year from now.
Where have you been for the last 20 years? There are good craft beers all over the place. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.
Not remotely. Where do you guys come up with these fantasies?
North Florida, Jacksonville, UC Riverside and U of D as well. All over 280 RPI.

It's turned late January from recruiting-crazy time to OT frenzy.

off of one of those annoying motivational posters, didn't you?
Every coaching staff "aims to get better". Doesn't mean they all can or will succeed.
He's been doing this a while now. What's going to happen between now and spring practice that will make him a much better coach?

Compare our talent level this year to the other teams we've taken to the NC game. Not even close. Sweet 16 is probably our limit.
And two quality backups, both of whom were freshmen last year. They're set at QB for the foreseeable future. Must be nice.
We can probably expect to see Rashan Gary bolt without hesitation after year 3.

There is absolutely no purpose served by limiting Matthews to 16 minutes. Beilein effectively fouled Matthews out himself.
