New helmet sticker for winning the game
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:13 AM ^
My favorite is the "C" for the captains.
Saw it on Haskins' helmet.
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
So Haskins became a captain after Ronnie Bell was injured?
December 3rd, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
From reading the link below about the stickers, it says if a player is named captain at any point in their career they keep that sticker. So was Haskins a captain earlier in his career? My memory is really bad.

That's awesome. Kinda wish the jerseys had a C patch for the captains but this is pretty cool.

What's really funny to me is that I had a little league football coach who did the same thing.... But he used actual tape and a marker lol. It was a fun team to play on for lots of reasons but most notable cuz I got to play on the same team with Mel Farr's sons. True story...
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:10 AM ^
could Mel's son fly too?
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
Mike Farr was so fast that it really seemed like he did...

My dad worked for Dodge back in the day, and he would give out these promo Dodge Neon tshirts to our 5th grade football team for player of the game...it was great marketing, but also we loved those shirts.
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
What team were you on? I was a Dearborn Heights Raider (uni’s based on Oakland Raiders — loved them) circa 1979! I have a vague recollection we played against one of Mel’s sons.
December 3rd, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
It was a Birmingham/Bloomfield league, the Vikings was our team. There was a varsity and JV team, Mel Jr was a few years older so was always ahead of our age group, Mike was more frequently a team mate of mine.

Didn't he end up at UCLA?Good player

Grew up across the street from Farr family. I was the paperboy and many times stopped over to toss the football or, way better, play 2 on 2 basketball - me and Lem Barney against Mel and Charlie Sanders. Lem was amazing athlete

How about a sticker with " Xhio " ?
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:26 AM ^
Xhix?
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
Or, use random letters until you get the correct result:
Shit
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:26 AM ^
Wouldn't it have to be Xhix?
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:53 AM ^
Time is an important commodity on Mgoblog
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:27 AM ^
1. I don't want to follow their lead on crossing out Ms or Os because it is stupid.
2. Wouldn't it read "xhix"?
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:01 AM ^
1. I agree about not following their lead, but I do like that the x makes them "hix."
2. And with repetition for emphasis, the hicks are "(hi)xhix."
More important: Go Blue. Beat Iowa.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:45 AM ^
Gx BLUE! BEAT IxWA!!!!
December 3rd, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
Every time I see OSU fans with their stupid X in place of M it reminds me of something a 5th grader thought up. Of course, that pretty much matches the average education level of an OSU fan, so....

Thxx Ohio State University?(All other e’s are ok)
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:34 AM ^
That is cool! It would be even cooler if it moved forward with them for as long as they were part of the team?
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:36 AM ^
Not enough real estate on the hats.
December 3rd, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Then overflow them down to the jersey, like they do on the Borg Warner (Indy 500) trophy.
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:39 AM ^
The stickers themselves? They do. Each helmet tells the story of that players career.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:25 AM ^
I wish the AD would publish a good infographic to talk about the meaning of the stickers.
I saw Andrel Anthony had a "517" sticker, so I assume each player has the area code where they are from.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
If you go back to the August 10th post here they do a good job of explaining many of them. https://mvictors.com/uniform-timeline/
They also have updates for every game's sticker.
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
Thank you. I missed that. Going to bookmark it.
December 3rd, 2021 at 9:09 AM ^
It can move forward with us fans. If I get a picture of it, I’ll design a shirt. That’s something I would love.
December 3rd, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
it is going to continue on and be added to each year.
they don't do the multiple stickers per game like they used to, now they have a sticker for Each victory with the win # on it, some are special like the Brown Jug or the Paul Bunyan with the win #
was also told that when a former player visits they mock up a helmet for them with all the wins they were a part of.
Just thought it was a cool new way to use the helmet stickers.

I love the helmet stickers & even more some award for beating OSU, but academic helmet stickers for football players? I'm not a fan of that. The stickers should be for football accomplishments.
December 3rd, 2021 at 7:41 AM ^
Achieving high grades while juggling a football career IS a HUGE accomplishment...no offense intended but maybe you don't fully appreciate the effort required of student athletes. Academic stickers are fantastic imo.

Agreed

I am a former college athlete. I was the captain of my college baseball team and a two time all conference player. I also graduated summa cum laude. I know about juggling being successful in college sports & while achieving a high level of academics. I am also a former college S&C coach. It's not that I don't think academics are important, it's that I don't think it has anything to do with football. I love recognizing the achievement, just not in this way. Academic achievement should be recognized. It's great to recognize people for doing good things, but one thing has nothing to do with the other IMO. Lots of things are difficult while juggling the time commitment of being a college football player. I don't think you give a helmet sticker for football if it doesn't have to do with playing football.
Academic stickers are fantastic imo.
Academics are great. Football is great. Success in each deserve recognition. But, there are separate achievements. Agree to disagree.
December 3rd, 2021 at 10:08 AM ^
So I take it you don't like Academic Honors for athletes then?
December 3rd, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
So I take it you don't like Academic Honors for athletes then?
Many conferences have traditionally had all academic teams, however helmet stickers have traditionally been kept to football specific accomplishments. I think it waters down the helmet stickers a little.
December 3rd, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
Yes, how dare we water down the sacred tradition of helmet stickers by acknowledging that these guys . . . go to class? And get good grades?
Where are our university's priorities?

I think you're mischaracterizing my stance. You're acting as if I'm saying the university should not acknowledge successful students. The university should. I just don't think you should get helmet stickers in football for that.
December 3rd, 2021 at 8:04 PM ^
Your stance is asinine - no ‘mischaracterization’ necessary
