Interesting Josh Pate take on the Harbaugh situation
He says if the job comes open we would be surprised on the coaches that would be interested

Peterson - Level 5
Lombardi - Level 4
Saban - Level 3

Okay okay sure, BUT, hear me out....Nick Saban
January 4th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
It crossed my mind.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
I was at a UM Flint event in early December 2014 and Marcus Ray was speaker. He told the entire crowd that Nick Saban was going to be the next coach. Most of us laughed at him, including myself. That’s pretty much the point at which I tuned him out.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
Did he really? As in, he was serious?
January 4th, 2023 at 10:47 AM ^
If there's ever an Urban Meyer thread, I'm out.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
The troll value to OSU just might make it worth it.
And then he would have to say "Michigan," also.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:15 AM ^
Can you imagine the absolutely chaos in college football if that actually happened though? It would almost be worth the slime just to see college football and Ohio State implode lol
January 4th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
Had a coworker this morning actually say this. He told me there is noise to it and told me to do a search. When I searched it (to humor him because I was incredulous) and found nothing he did his own search and found.... nothing. I laughed.

Unless the source material runs out and then it dies a slow, painful, agonizing death.
January 4th, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
Would suggesting Sonny Dykes be too soon?
January 4th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
7. Mike Hart
There's a "death and taxes" level of certainty that Mike will be pitched as a HC candidate.
January 4th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
1. Dave Aranda, Dan Lanning, Kalen Deboer, Mike Locksley
2. Jonathon Smith
3. Dabo
4. Paul bear Bryant
5. Dan Campbell
6. Tony D’Amato, Jimmy McGinty
7. Internal candidates: Moore, Hart, Minter
January 4th, 2023 at 2:49 PM ^
Mike Locksley? You seriously put Mike Locksley on a line with Kalen DeBoer, etc? You are serious with Mike Locksley, but give no credence to Lane Kiffen, Lance Leipold, or Chris Klieman?
Dude...

Mack Brown, Mark Stoops, are the only names that really seem exciting to me, and by exciting I mean I would be generally optimistic. I would definitley rather have a Jim Harbaugh who has decided to stick with michigan and decides he doesnt want to make the transition to the NFL.
How do people feel about PJ Fleck. I am still impressed with him and what he has done at Minnesota. I think with Michigan talent he could be very good. thoughts?
January 4th, 2023 at 10:35 AM ^
Mack brown?
wtf. Dude is 72
January 4th, 2023 at 10:39 AM ^
Yeah, he caught lightening in a bottle with Vince Young, and since then he has produced mediocre results at best.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:55 AM ^
Mack Brown in football and Tom Izzo in basketball. 2 that of done the least with the most throughout the years, and are lucky to have been benefited by Vince Young/Flintstones
January 4th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
Vince Young Rose Bowl is one of the most entertaining games I've ever watched. But, yeah, hard pass Brown.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
Mack Brown is a year or two from retirement, and honestly isn't anywhere near a top-tier coach anymore.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
Lol... you actually managed to pick the guys I would be least interested in their interest in the job.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
72 year old Mack Brown who puts a clown car out on defense every year. You can't be serious.
January 4th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
Did you love the TCU game? 2010 Illinois? Well then boy have I got the coach for you!
January 4th, 2023 at 10:43 AM ^
Mack Brown is a hard no.
PJ Fleck would be a good hire, while not particularly exciting.
Kalen DeBoer would probably be my first pick. Sonny Dykes would not be far behind but that just might be a lateral move at this point.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:47 AM ^
PJ Fleck would be a massive downgrade from Harbaugh & a terrible hire. The fact that he wasn't able to win the Big Ten West this year is really all you should need to know.
January 4th, 2023 at 10:49 AM ^
I disagree that it would be a terrible hire. There aren't many who not be a downgrade from Harbaigh, but I think Fleck is a good coach and while he would not be my first pick for the job if it came to that I would not think the sky was falling.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:00 AM ^
How though? We've really only seen Fleck with middling 3* star talent with the occasional guys that outperform their ceilings. He seems to have done a good of job at Minnesota as anyone in the past few decades. He gave WMU one hell of a cinderella season and while you could call it a one-off it was pretty damn cool.
I think it would be interesting to see what he could do at a program of higher level. Is he right for Michigan? Possibly not... but I'd still like to see what he could do at a program of similar talent
January 4th, 2023 at 10:58 AM ^
Dabo Swinney would be my guess. I could see him leaving Clemson for the B1G or SEC.
Also that would be a massive hire.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:01 AM ^
hard pass. Dabo had success when Clemson was throwing around the biggest bags, which is why Dabo was so vocally resistant to NIL. As soon as NIL began, Dabo lost his competitive edge.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
He had two studs at QB. He just hasn’t been able to capture that again. I get it though, he’s religious.
January 4th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
There is a big difference between his kind of religious and Harbaugh's kind of religious though.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:03 AM ^
The southern evangelist preacher routine wouldn't play here. No thanks.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
Yeeeeah because our current coach doesn’t have some strong religious views himself…
Talking W’s and L’s, not what imaginary deity they choose to sponsor.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:10 AM ^
Southern evangelical and religious aren't really the same thing
January 4th, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
Allegedly imaginary.

Could there be a worse fit for Michigan, culturally, than Dabo Swinney? He'd be as bad as Rich Rod. Are you kidding?
January 4th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
Okay Let’s get Urban then. Yin/Yang.
January 4th, 2023 at 12:41 PM ^
I would say yes just for the entertainment value. And the guys knows how to win college football games, no debate about that.
January 4th, 2023 at 3:13 PM ^
While it will never happen, he is the only coach I feel could come in that we would not have to worry about the projection of the program falling back.
January 4th, 2023 at 11:20 AM ^
He doesn't seem to do so well without transformational QB's.
January 4th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
Not advocating for Dabo, but who really has won without great QB talent, though? Saban has had a long long line of very good to great QBs. Joe Burrow was lights out. OSU's runs have been full of strong college QBs. You could make the case Stetson Bennett isn't transformational, and he's likely not a starter NFL QB level talent, but he's been a very good college QB. And it's been the one thing that we've all said has held JH back, not getting the level of performance at QB position in his first five years or so.
