Hunter Dickinson says goodbye to Michigan
Pretty classy message.
Especially considering "classy" hasn't exactly been his forte at Michigan!
Agree this message was very classy. Sorry to see Hunter go and thankful for his play and effort while here. Have a feeling he will miss living and playing in Ann Arbor and he knows it. Perhaps the NIL money involved makes it the right decision for him. It's a lot a money.
Life comes with tough decisions, and he had to make one that he believes is in his best interest. He had a great career at Michigan. It was a pleasure to watch him play and I wish him continued success.
Thank you, Mr. Dickinson, for your contributions to Michigan.
Sorry you're leaving but wish you well.
Farewell, Hunter. Good luck to you (except if you play Michigan).
Ok, need to use this again....

Bye.
You forgot the preceding "Well...."
So much drama. So many kids feel the need to make every decision a social media event. The Age of Narcissism.
Enjoy while it lasts. Next year Artificial Intelligence will handle it all.
Perhaps AI will be the impetus to, once again, prioritize direct human interaction versus electronic social media.
Maybe it'll be artificial, but at least there will be be some form of intelligence. There's half a loaf I can live with.
I thought this was actually kind of cool by Hunter. Maybe this is just my interpretation, but he announced he was leaving without naming the new team so that Michigan could get all the attention first -- not just a footnote in his announcement of going elsewhere. It was just "thanks Michigan, I'm going to _________". It really felt like he wanted people to know what Michigan means to him.
If Michigan really means that much to him, why is he leaving?
you can love a place but still have completely justifiable reason to leave it. both things can be true.
"... both things can be true."
Good luck joining Team Blue or Team Red with that attitude, mister. :)
Business decision. He has his degree (or will in a few weeks anyway) and his pro options are likely going to be pretty limited. Might as well go out making as much money as possible.
To get the biggest paycheck he'll ever get for playing basketball (most likely). I don't know how anyone can blame him for that. This is basically the equivalent of him going pro.
Michigan came with enough money to convince Corum to stay. I’m sure they could’ve done the same for Dickinson, if that’s what he wanted.
basketball is never going to be on the same level as football here. bball could win three straight national championships, and it still wouldn't be the case. that's just the way it is and will always be.
Corum is a potential Heisman candidate for a team that has a very good chance at a conference and national championship.
Dickinson is a great player in his own right but is... not those things
Could’ve, and if they did I’m sure he’d stick around. But did they?
if that’s what he wanted.
what about what Michigan wants? Probably NOT to throw a bunch of money at a traditional center on a team that is likely going to find itself fighting on the bubble next year. If we were looking at a championship caliber team, like with Corum and the football team, you might see it happen. But there’s really no upside in Michigan getting into a bidding war for his services.
Michigan meant a ton to me while I attended and graduated, but I’ve since gone on to get a job… My first employer meant a lot to me for giving me an opportunity, I’ve since changed jobs to make more $.
Hunter doesn’t have an NBA future, anyone blaming him for trying to make the most $ he can in his final year(s) of eligibility is an idiot.
Maybe he never see's an NBA lineup, at 7'1" I'm sure some team will kick the tires for a G league check, but if that doesn't work out there are other places to play ball that will pay for a guy like that.
this exactly. sports allegiances really turn people's brains to mush sometimes.
I felt the same. It’s a rare choice to handle it this way, and reading the message he is trying to show that he will continue to care about Michigan. I wish he were staying, but if he’s gotta go, he’s at least handling it better than most.
Given his choice to leave Michigan, it seems like a cynical attempt to be seen in the best light possible and generate positive social media reaction, despite the fact that his words are contradicted by his choice. I believe he has every right to go elsewhere, but I don’t think his tweet honestly reflects his true thoughts. It’s strictly PR.
Well your mind is clearly made up.
That may be. Or it may be that this way - Day 1, Announce I'm leaving Michigan. Day 2, Announce where I'm going - he gets twice as much attention.
You're on a sports blog devoted specifically to these "kids." You're a reason they have social media posts on their decisions, because you will otherwise complain about being ghosted and say they're immature.
And if he says nothing and leaves...he's gets dragged for that.
It's not, "classy."
Quit being a butthurt ex and move on.
Is it only the Age of Narcissism when players post news we don't like?
I don't recall complaints about social media when players announce they've chosen Michigan.
No, I’m equally dismayed by top 10 and top 5 recruiting announcements, and can’t stand the dramatic, televised hat ceremonies when the kids announce which school they’ve chosen. The world needs more Joe Thomases, the NFL HOFer who chose going fishing with his dad over attending the draft.
I think the worlds need less people trying to push their world view on others. There is nothing wrong with these young men celebrating/sharing one of the most important moments of their lives with others.
I personally think holidays and birthdays are stupid but will not act like there is something wrong with the world or individuals for celebrating.
Says the guy who comes to a message board to give his opinions on kids.
Good luck Hunter.
How I wish Dickinson and Burke could've played together. Can't blame Hunter for leaving. Sadly the program is in decline.
Hard to fault the kid. Can’t imagine it was an easy decision. For all the grumbling, if the reports are to be beloved Hunter is going from what - a few hundred thousand? - to two million. I don’t think there’s anyone on this blog that wouldn’t do the same thing…
You’re totally right about this. It would be damn near hard to not take a 1.5 million dollar pay upgrade to play for another team. That said, it is a sad state of affairs that loyalty to a team is more or less dead unless original team can pony up an exorbitant amount of money.
Good to read he's getting his degree this summer.
He's going to be a Michigan grad, if I'm reading this right, which is pretty cool.
