Hoopster Justin Pippin chosing his college of choice today
In case you didn't know, Justin Pippin is picking his college today. He is the son of Scotty Pippin. Michigan is supposedly looking really good per 247 and WTKA's Sam Webb though Sam isn't predicting he'll pick Michigan outright.
Here's Justin's thoughts on Michigan per the article:
""The development. It's a big school and a lot of pros come out of there and the culture of the coaching staff and the players, everything about it is good. It's a big college known around the world."
Having a Pippin in Jordan clothing would be quite interesting.

I hope all this recruiting hoopla doesn't give him a headache.

Who the hell is Scotty Pippin?
April 19th, 2024 at 10:06 AM ^
Who the fuck is Mel Kiper Jr?
Are Mel Kiper and Steven Seagal twins?
April 19th, 2024 at 10:13 AM ^
Who the hell is Scottie Pippin?
Scottie and Michael share Isiah Thomas.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:39 AM ^
You misspelled Scotty in your quote.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:31 AM ^
I like to refer to him as Potty Skippin.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
Younger son used to do that many decades ago. He outgrew those attempts, thankfully.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:32 AM ^
He's the Choosen One
April 19th, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
But does he have the high ground?
Is he Stevie Wonder?
April 19th, 2024 at 11:25 AM ^
Of choice
April 19th, 2024 at 11:29 AM ^
No one you need to know. We should fire May and Warde over this. Not even an idiot would recruit a Pippin over a Brandybuck.
/ seriously, taking down a troll is nice, but it ain't getting the jump on the effin' honcho of the Nazgûl
April 19th, 2024 at 11:48 AM ^
He played 2nd fiddle to MJ and is the most overrated player in NBA history
With poorly timed headaches (meow)
If you took his defensive game out of the equation, then i would agree with you. However, i do not agree with you because you cannot simply take half his game away.
Hated Scottie back in the day but can’t agree with this assessment. He was a damn good player.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
He's a descendant of Johnny Appleseed.
Who the hell is John F. Kennedy?
the lessor known uncle of famous Robert Kennedy Jr
April 19th, 2024 at 10:02 AM ^
I thought this was the son of Scott(y)ie, not Charlemagne
April 19th, 2024 at 10:08 AM ^
i read those comments... the stanford comments were the least enthusiastic.. ours weren't that much better. but pippen was a super unique athlete/player.. if his son has that in him, bring him on.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:14 AM ^
The hope is that he has the big growth spurt. This is a good bet.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:41 AM ^
Yeah, Michael was a supernova. But his career looks different without Scottie Pippen, and the continuity that offered the Bulls. Not that Michael cared to acknowledge.
April 19th, 2024 at 12:43 PM ^
Pippen was Jordan's Greg Kelser. If he wasn't there, then there would have been another first mate.
It will be weird to cheer for a Pippen but if the Bulls fans could cheer for the Worm then anything is possible.
I generally agree, but Kelser’s knee issues are also part of his story.

From the rankings, seems like the kind of guy everyone at MGoBlog wants May to pursue according to On3:
#60 to 247
#116 to On3
#73 to Rivals
4 star to ESPN.
#93 overall on On3

the concern i have is that i dont see him as being the "first" recruit to join, given that may has relationships with a lot of other players, who you'd think would make this a place pippen would want to play. seems odd that a guy who was just starting to get interested would be the first guy to commit, when guys like goldin etc.. have not yet.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:16 AM ^
Transfers are probably delaying it to see if they get more NIL, vs a non top tier HS player.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:57 AM ^
i dont disagree.. but if im a recruit without ties to the program or coach, am i gonna be the first one to take the plunge?
April 19th, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
You may not, but maybe Pippen will. Fortunately, he's probably better at basketball than a message board poster.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
I have no idea what's going on, but here are two ideas:
- Pippen really hit it off with May and wants to be part of the "revival." That would make him enthusiastic about claiming a spot.
- Players already in college have to wait for due diligence (maybe more sophisticated than it was in the Shannon / Love days) to run its course.

And there is the whole NBA evaluation process that a few want to go to. Be patient, things are looking good based on what Brian and Sam are hinting at.
April 19th, 2024 at 12:56 PM ^
This. My understanding was that many of the potential transfers are going through the draft advisory process, even though none of the ones Michigan is looking at are likely to be remotely draftable.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:54 AM ^
I'm hearing that we have commits from the portal, but no one is announcing anything until they are officially admitted. That's a good policy for the program and the players.
April 19th, 2024 at 10:26 AM ^
Is this quote about May and the 2024-25 Michigan basketball program?
“…the culture of the coaching staff and the players…”
April 19th, 2024 at 11:19 AM ^
yeah, honestly, his quote rang hollow a bit, what culture? what development? Even if you loved howard as a coach (i dont see how), that's all gone now anyway. Seems boilerplate-ish. But all of his comments were bland. "SEC is a good conference"... haha.. ok?
Unless he's committing to the football team...
There is a culture around Michigan regardless of who the coach is. This would be present in the support staff including: nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches and staff, academic aides, etc. Despite the perception, there are also still people on the basketball team. Nimari Burnett, GWIII, Jace Howard and Tschetter are the known names but people like Ian Burns, Harrison Hochberg, Jackson Selvala, and Cooper Smith are all people who contribute to the culture of the team. TWill may still be hanging around as well.
Dusty May has been a head coach for 6 years and an assistant coach for an additional 13 years. He has a track record of development he can sell even if it hasn't been at Michigan.
And as much as I hate to admit it, the SEC did get 8 teams into the NCAA tournament, one of which made the Final Four. Those 8 teams tied with the Big12 for most by any conference this year. The B1G had 6 teams in the tournament.
It wasn't a hollow quote at all. Just a more informed one than you may have realized.

Say what?
April 19th, 2024 at 11:08 AM ^
Didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the thread, so just sharing that he's making his announcement at 4:30 PM ET, live on 247Sports.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:11 AM ^
You had four chances to spell the guy’s name right…
April 19th, 2024 at 11:18 AM ^
I think it's spelled "fore"
/s
April 19th, 2024 at 11:16 AM ^
Given his pedigree and rankings, he looks like a fantastic addition to the class. He doesn't look like a one and done but is moving up the rankings and has great upside.
It looks like we have a 7 foot plus center ready to commit and now another son of an NBA star in the Beilein tradition. We also look likely to add a number of top transfer players to complete a basically full roster this coming year.
All of these players will be coached by a young, inspiring and energetic coach who already coached a team to the Final Four.
I'm getting excited about Michigan basketball again.
April 19th, 2024 at 11:50 AM ^
Right? This isn't news.

Bruh it's Pippen

I usually don't care about spelling, but you have to spell Pippen correctly.

No thanks.

It's taking a lot of self control and will power to not say anything about "chosing"
April 19th, 2024 at 12:44 PM ^
Not sure who Scotty Pippin is, but I sure as hell will be excited if we can get Scottie Pippen's son, Justin, to go Maize and Blue.
