First win at Maryland in 80 years
Odd stat and I know we didn't play them every year yada yada, but today's win over Maryland was not just our first win over them since they joined the B1G.
It wasn't also just our first win at the Xfinity Center.
It was the first win in College Park in 80 years.
December 17, 1937. Led by John Townsend and James Rae along with head coach Bennie Oosterbaan (yes, he coached MBB too), the Wolverines won 43-26 at Ritchie Coliseum.
80 years later, Michigan eclipsed their game total by halftime and nearly doubled it for the final score.

For sure. MAAR is playing like a stud, too. Love to see him get drafted!

He needs to keep those goggles on, along with the pink shoes (although I'm not sure he was wearing them today)
February 24th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
He was.

MAAR is our 2018 Walton - get on my back boys.

Very interesting factoid about Oosterbaan. Clearly I need to read up about him further.

One of the greatest M men ever.
3-time Football All-American end
2-time Basketball All-American forward
All-B1G and 1927 B1G batting champion first basemen
Football assistant coach as soon as he graduated. A longtime assistant from 1928-1947 and then became the head coach in 1948, winning the national championship in his first year. He called it a career in 1958.
Not sure there has ever been someone to serve and do as much for Michigan both on the field as a player and coach than Bennie.

...would be nice to hear that you are somehow getting paid for this kind of input!

He could only win a natty with someone else’s players. Must have sucked at recruiting. Do not want.

Was it ice?
Thanks, but I'll stick with my Two Hearted.

Not anymore. Home Sure Lending or something like that. Just go back to Cole Field House. At least people will remember that.
February 24th, 2018 at 2:44 PM ^
That's just a joke that's put in the game previews. Homesure Lending is an mgoblog sponsor. It's still the Xfinity Center per the ugly big logos on their court.
It should be renamed Shit Customer Service Center.

My bad

Got a big lead and then had to ice it at the FT line. Good times

Nothing like a first-hand, I-was-there testimonial.
Was the game in black-and white like the team portrait?

43-26: classic big ten score!
February 24th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
No shot clock, no 3 pointers.
I remember basketball games before the shot clock and 3 pointers. Possessions were more like "drives" are in football. Some could last several minutes.
February 24th, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
or game. i remember a lot of 90+ run and gun type games as a kid. that's why i appreciate JB so much. he values every possession. # of points don't matter; quality of shots do...an no turnovers!
February 24th, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
Dean Smith's UNC teams were brutal to watch when they had the lead. The four-corners stall offense for minutes on end.

Odd stat and I know we didn't play them every year
Bit of an understatement. We've played them what, five times total on the road?
February 24th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
We waited a while, but we did it with authority! So much karma in Michigan's incredible late season surge!
February 24th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
Michigan has as good a chance to come out on top this year as any in the nation. Dangerous team, built for the tourney.
February 24th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
will pay huge dividends in the post season, this feels awesome
February 24th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
This was Maryland's first 18+ point home loss since 1998.
Happy Senior Day, Turtles!
February 24th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Now that's a noteworthy one.
February 24th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
Edit: 19+ point home loss. Fat-fingered the 8...
Last 19-point home loss for Maryland was a Dook beatdown 01/03/1998.

Really hating Delaney right now. This mojo is good. Wish we had 1 more full week & conference tourney. Worried the long break for all big ten teams will be a disservice come tourney time where every game is do or die.
February 24th, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
about the effect on us going into the Big Dance. I trust Coach Beilein.to have us ready.
If there's anything to be gained right now, it's that Livers will have the time to get a lot healthier during the layoff.
February 24th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
It's important to finish strong and do well next week. Perhaps a 4 and play a 13 sounds way better than playing an 11/12. Gives us a game for more leeway with the long break.

Worst Md home loss this century.
