Tyler Shough commits to North Carolina
Title says it all
Let's not give ISIS any ideas.
best of luck to him
he wouldn't have went to a power 5 school. No need to be an asshat about an 18 year old kid making a decision about where to spend the next 4 years. The fact is, Harbaugh has brought in a blue chip quarterback every year, and will continue to do so. I don't fault the kid for deciding he wanted to be the only QB in his class.
Agree with everything you said, but Wiltfong said that UNC plans on taking two QBs this class.
but I'm also betting Tyler knows the 2nd QB probably won't be as good as Milton and UNC's depth chart isn't as deep. Can't blame Tyler. Good chance to go to a great school, play in one of the best conferences in football, and probably see more PT than if he came here. Can't win em all...
I was curious about their QB depth so I looked into it.

Shough would be the highest rated QB on the roster by the time he enrolls. Brandon Harris from LSU is a transfer this season, but I think his eligibility runs out after this year.
Additionally, the fact that UNC took Harris, who didn't show much at LSU and is projected to start for UNC, shows the lack of faith in the QBs on the roster.
You did state something true. You mentioned that he may think he can play one year and be an early round draft pick. How could you blame him for that? And how is it different than so many other recruits? This blog talks all the time about how when teams have high draft picks or a lot of guys drafted, that is an attractive thing for many kids trying to make the NFL.
And yes, UNC just took the #20 QB of his high school class, started him for one season before he became the #2 overall pick in the NFL draft. How could that not be an attractive incentive for any high school QB?
I see your point, I just don't see how there is a problem if someone wants to go play for a staff that developed a guy who played so very little and will be making a ton of money this year.
I do not like the point of NFL level of play for the QB position, because Trubisky still was considered better than every other QB entering the draft.
I know it hurts your feelings that a 17 year old kid won't be attending UM, but you sound like a 97.1 caller with that take. I'm so sick of keyboard tough guys making the rest of us look like jackasses by ripping high school kids. Get a life. (Directed at Khaleke the Freak)
Yeah, if the guy above wanted to be a jerk about a kid's college choice, he could have at least been creative. For example: "Shoughs chooses UNC, Plans to Major in African-American Studies..." :-D
The mistake you're making is doubling down. Just take your lumps and wait for this thread to move down.
What you don't seem to understand is that signing day is 8 months away, and a hell of a lot can happen. Recruits read these blogs, and we almost didn't get Aubrey Solomon back because of crap like this. It would take all of 15 seconds for someone to screen shot what you said and send it to the kid.
You are able to size that up just based on where he decided to go to school? Wow! You are amazing sir.
To be fair UNC had the top quarterback taken in the draft last year (2nd overall selection) and the ACC was the toughest conference. Maybe Tyler actually chose higher competition.
Also, you're being an ass.
I hope you just went for a Mitchell Trubiskey joke there that wasnt well executed.
And I hope your not a Bears fan.
beloved institution to play football or any other sport. But I have to say I was thinking to myself that if I'm that kid and not a for sure 5 star talent, would I want to go to Michigan and already have Peters, McCaffrey, and Milton in front of me and gawd knows what 5 star studs Harbaugh brings in for the next 2 or 3 years behind me? My thought was maybe he'd have a better chance to show is talents at another program. You could be a great college QB with NFL potential but if you have an elite QB that comes in before or after you arrive, you could spend your college career on the bench.
Matt Gutierrez (Gutz) was a highly recruited QB that loved Michigan. He got a minor injury at the wrong time and had a 5 star freshman named Henne that just showed up on campus. Henne got the start and never came close to losing the job once he got it. Gutz eventually transferred to Idaho State for his Senior year. I think Idaho State was Div 2 at the time. He got playing time and played well but wasn't drafted. He signed as a free agent and spent 6 or 7 years as a backup in the NFL. I believe he was Brady's backup for a time. Anyway, I remember when Gutz left he wrote a letter to the fans and praised Michigan up and down. It was his true love and would always consider himself a Michigan Man. But he had to move on for his personal development as a player.
I assume Gutz made some decent coin. Undrafted free agent that hung around in the league for 6 years as a backup QB. Yeah he made some money. But! If he could have started for Michigan he probably would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick. And would have made some serious coin! He had the talent. It was just bad timing with Henne and that was out of his control.
Point is Shough might have loved everything about Michigan other than the depth chart. I'm sure part of him loved the thought of learning under Harbaugh. But another part of him probably thought about the current 9th grade 5 star that is also going to dream of learning under Harbaugh. There's only one QB on the field at a time and a smart kid would realize that.
Good luck Tyler. We'll be watching you from a distance.
The Rams gave Power Forward Robert Quinn a cool $57 million two years ago
must have had a great visit and found the right fit.
Very best wishes to him. Finding the best fit is far more important to the individual than it is to the institution.
Good for him to have options, though. I hope Chapel Hill treats him well, and he beats the ever-living shit out of Duke for the length of his career (while losing to GA Tech, but showing well while doing so).
That the staff wants to take 2 QB's next year. Assuming we miss out on Fields, do we try and flip Day? The Morris family are still heavily involved over there and huge supporters of Michigan; also do we keep pushing for Sitkowski or Shough?
Pass on Sitkowski. He can't even spell Arthur. /s
We backed off Sitkowski a long time ago, even before he committed to Miami.
I hope Michigan pushes for James Graham, a dual-threat kid. He could be your Wildcat guy, although maybe not a full-time QB.
With what the kid has in front of him, beside him and in my opinion in back of him I really can't see that he had much of a choice. Magnus do we have a legittimate shot at fields?. If so you could see another shake up at QB. With Mccaffery in front of these guys and maybe J.T. Daniels behind them they may never see the field. I feel Daniels is that good, but if Fields comes in that changes everytyhing and I am glad he isn't going to psu. Of course Milton could surprise the shit out of me and that is ok also, but Daniels is the real deal and I think with Harbaugh helping Mccaffery he is going to be lights out also. Harbaugh could turn Fields into a Cam Newton type quite easily, but since I am a defense type guy Milton will probably lead Michigan to a national Championship but I still have my favorites so will see.
Well that escalated quickly.
Best of luck to him and can't blame him for going with what he feels is the best opportunity.
I could not wear that color for even one practice. It makes me nauseas.
Looks like my Grandmother's bathroom.
Yeah, this kind of Soughs...
Oh well. Fough it. We should be fine. Hope he does well.
