I was on a road trip and was listening to the Rutgers crew calling the game. They were annoying as hell but after a Rutgers return was called back because of a hold that the PBP guy called questionable, the color guy went nuts, sounded like your drunk buddy bitchin about the call. I couldn't take it anymore and quickly googled the channel for the away team broadcast on Sirius and happily listened to Brandy the rest of the game. We could have it worse!
What it tells me is one may have retired because he knew if he continued to play he would inevitably have passed his childhood idol as NFL career rushing leader. The other may have retired because he was truly concerned about CTE.
I hope it was neither an alum or student of OSU that wrote it would be "torcher" to see UM win the title. What are the odds? Maybe this person spells everything phonetically. Or maybe this person is just a typical OSU fan.
Daughter a Spartan, ( soon to be also a Eastern Michigan Huron, I think it has to do with the colors of green and white as the school colors where she teaches are also green and white) , son a Michigan Man. Wife leans to Sparty. She watched the game with me and let out an excited scream of happiness when that shot splashed through! Then she insisted I put on ESPN after to watch the replays. Maybe there is some hope to pull her from the dark side and make her True Blue!
Maybe G. Smith is hoping Urban invites him on their spring break practice trip next year. After all, who wouldn't want out of Columbus this time of year?.... Any time of year?
Anytime a sparty says Appy State we can reply Middle Tennesee State! Different sport yes, but also in the playoffs as opposed to early season out of conference game
State loses, Meechigan wins! Then State basketball goes down, hope their bad week continues on Thursday.
Michigan Tech band is crazy, crazy outfits, goofy hats, you name it. Guess there must not be much to do in yooper land in the winter so act like goofs! But I bet they're having a ball! Too bad they will lose tomorrow!
He made it very clear right from the start that he was only taking the job long enough to get the department back on an even keel. He did a fantastic job and I wish him a very happy retirement!
I can't even imagine the pain his parents must feel. No parent should ever have to attend their child's funeral, it is just so against the natural order of things.
Sat in the north end zone with quite a few other Michigan fans, my tickets courtesy of the alumni association. Most of the PSU fans were cool. One of them became irate at the targeting/personal foul call, turned around and screamed at us, "what kind of a pussy league do you play in?" I politely informed him that it is called the Big Ten and that I was aware that they are relatively newcomers, but it is,in fact the very same league they play in! At the end of the game he had settled down and turned around and offered handshakes and seemingly genuine congratulations.
I actually encountered a coed that asked me the what time is it question, and the "and Michigan still sucks"response. Her being young and seemingly somewhat airheaded I stifled my first impulse of replying that Penn State still swallows and merely rolled my eyes!
I agree that the stadium looks like an erector set and the mountain lion howl is lame and tends to get on your last damn nerve pretty quick. And even before the start of the game I knew only too well who they were: WE ARE PENN STATE. WE ARE PENN STATE. WE ARE PENN STATE. over and over and on and on. I had forgotten about their love of Neil Fricken Diamond's " Sweet Caroline" BA BA BA.
I was parked way out in yellow lot 26, right on the driveway. After hoofing it out to the car, I was out on Highway 322 and gone in ten minutes
Thanks for the advice! We're staying in Clearfield and had been planning on heading out around 9:00 AM. Might up that an hour! I had already planned on taking 322 as I feel the backroads can be a better bet than major expressways when one can expect heavier than normal travel days
There is a reason that Woodson was the onlydefensive player to win the Heisman in like a hundred years. The trophy goes to offensive players. Woodson got quite a few offfensive snaps to help his candidacy. He was also flat out fantastic! Lewis is great and I hope he comes back next year and both he and Peppers are in the Heisman conversation
If you remember Ufer's game calling you must be an "old guy", too! Usually his call was as you said, but after Hucklebee deep and Davis close, he would say "and the guts and glue of the maize and blue, Ricky Leach!" Etc.
I live less than 10 miles from Dakota and had been thinking about going but weather could be a big issue. Not sure what time the camp is scheduled but it hardly matters as the predictions for thunderstorms tomorrow range from a low of 46% at 9 AM to a high of 91% at 5:00. Rain doesn't bother me but I've had several too close encounters with lightning
I never played or worked for the Tigers so I guess I'm just an asshole for going to their games. Isn't this pretty much the same thing? An alum may have more love for the entire entity of the University of Michigan, but for the football team, or hockey team, women's volleyball? I think a non-alum could love and root for a team just as much
The idea of the JerryWorld game was good. The results not so much. If it would only be done once every 5-10 years, against a noteworthy opponent at a noteworthy venue, it could have some benefits. Someone mentioned San Diego earlier, for me, that's a great benefit as I love that area!
I was in RF stands and saw the throw beat Castellanos to the bag by at least two steps, this is normally an automatic out call and kind of hung my head, then I see ump signal safe, look to see if ball got dropped, nope, not laying on ground. I figured we would probably lose out on the inevitable challenge, Ventura comes out, walks around talking to umps, returns to dugout and umps stay on field, I'm thinking, what the heck, he's not challenging? Why? What's he got to lose? It is the ninth inning, how many more challenge opportunities does he think he'll get? Some reasons I've read and some I thought
1. Umpire was so emphatic on call and discussion
2. Infielders, especially first baseman who had the best view, said the tag was missed
3. Replay review guy told him not to challenge
Now my thoughts, guesses and/or hallucinations as to why
1. Maybe, just maybe he was afraid if he lost challenge he wouldn't be able to challenge a close play at the plate
2. He's not a very good manager/ dumbass. Often great players don't make good managers and great managers are guys that were never good enough to make the show or had a cup of coffee there. locally we have many examples of this, Alan Trammell, Sparky Anderson, Jim Leyland, Scotty Bowman, every head coach in the entire history of the Pistons! Yes, I know that nobody could have won with the team that Trammell has to manage.
I think he stays in Detroit but could go to Toronto for big bucks since it is the center (I should say centre) of the hockey universe. Don't think so, just ask anyone who lives within 100 miles of that city!
Tampa is better overall and Ben Bishop has been better than Wing's goaltending in the regular season. But, the regular season is over and the playoffs are beginning and the playoffs is where Jimmy Howard has more experience and been better than Bishop. The playoff experience is why I expect Babcock to name Howard the starter, as would I.
My son just got his master's degree in December and the Wings have never NOT made the playoffs in his entire life. That adds perspective to this great run for me.
I have to give credit to Sparty for taking advantage of their weak regional to get to the Final Four. Wisconsin showed their superiority to MSU during regular season, Duke crushed them tonight, and if Kentucky would have gotten a chance at them, I think it would have gotten very ugly. So, yeah, Izzo got another Final Four, but if they would have been in any other regional I am sure that there would have been no Final Four for them
At the time I remember thinking and others saying that hit in Columbus is probably getting flagged, if it was in AA probably not getting flagged, if it was at a neutral site, 50-50.
When wife and I walk into a store and some salesman says, can I help you, "folks"? Folks, what a stupid thing to call random people. Sounds like something out of the fifties. Also, I have no idea if you CAN help us, what you mean is you want to know if you may help us. Huh! Grammar lesson of the day.
I also hate sitting in a meeting with a visual presentation and the speaker reads every slide verbatim. Adds nothing to the verbiage that I can read way faster in my head than this dunderhead can read aloud like he's some third grade teacher reading to a classroom
Perhaps he chose Michigan in part for the academics. He's a bright young man, Pre-Med and majoring in microbiology. Sports are fun but we should never forget that Michigan is one hell of an institution of higher learning.
I have no clue how the QB situation will resolve itself but I'm hoping the strongarmed Morris can be at least number two. If we ever find ourselves in a situation where we need a Hail Mary to win a game his 15+ yards extra potential distance could be the difference between throwing to the end zone or having to run an even lower percentage hook and lateral play to score.I realize you would want to have his arm warmed up some but usually you can see the possibility of needing a Hail Mary ahead of time. Ideal situation for this would be against Spartans and Morris proving to Harbaugh his arm was ready by throwing ball across to the opposite sideline, hitting tha stupid, prancing Sparty in the butt knocking his skirt off! And then completing the winning TD throw of course!
i don't like making predictions in the spring. I will predict Rudock will make this team better. Even if he is only an extra set of experienced eyes telling the playing quarterback what he sees out on the field. Oh, what the heck, he moves them from 8-4 to 9-3. Bowl game I won't predict, because we have no idea whom we'll be playing. Oh, what the heck, MEECHIGAN wins the bowl game!

Merry Christmas everyone!
Best of luck wherever he decides to attend!
It smells like......victory!
This is fantastic news today and hoping for another great day tomorrow with Kareem Walker!

Back in the day Dick Purton used to play a parody set to the OSU fight song:
Liquidate Ohio State and humble Woody Hayes
There's alot of cattle in Columbus, let's send them back to graze
Knock them off their ivory towers, send them crawling into the showers
Down with Ohio State, it's a know nothing party school!
Is your real name Ohio?

Thank you to both NittanyFan and Indiana Blue for travel advice
Ron Wood? Didn't he use to play with the Stones?

May we have a moment of silence for Mike Danthony?.....Nah!
Yes, it is 3:30 kickoff televised on Big Ten Network

Exactly! That's why they wear helmets, so they don't bump, you know, actual heads!

I'll be more than happy with 95-67..I love watching Cabrera hit, he's got it all, once in a generation hitter.
