Anyone else in hot water with the Mrs?

Submitted by CLord on

I gambled by watching the game within earshot of the better half and lost.  My F-laced outbursts both good (Poole) and bad (Mo chin foul, MAAR missed lay up) brought my lovely but non-sports understanding wife of 8 years to startled tears, soon followed by a blubbering "You have to hold yourself to a higher standard of comportment" lecture.  She wasn't wrong.  I was pretty bad.  It felt so good.  I'm still smiling.  Jordan Poole.  Texted a buddy and he informed me he too was in hot water with his wife!  Good times.

Lesson: If you marry someone whose college sports passion is less than 10% of yours, watch the game in the same zip code at your own peril.

Anyone else earn spousal heat tonight over some short term turrets?

Yelled all night, the only issue here was nobody to ask, “can you fucking believe these refs?”, except the Dog. Even he could see they were playing too large of a role in the game....

Lol! Yeah man.  I even pulled out the win probability graphic off ESPN to show my wife how miraculous what I had just seen was to try and gain some understanding.  It swung from like 95% Houston to 100% Michigan instantly.  Didn't work.  Tomorrow's gonna be chore and doghouse day and I'll be giddy and smiling all day long.

After 40 years my sports allergic wife is way past getting mad. Now it's an eye roll and a "yeah, whatever." On the other hand, I can not for the life of me understand her fascination with NCIS.

It's not a newlywed vs long term thing. I've been married for 3 years and she isn't a sports person at all, but she will sit in the room with me. She celebrated with me because she knows how much I care. It seems crazy to me that a spouse would be upset when you get excited about something you love that isnt terrible. It's not like you are doing blow off a strippers ass or anything and cheering about it.

My wife put my trip to Wichita on her CC. Might have been her master plan to keep me from throwing a fit in our bedroom when things inevitably, but ultimately didn't go our way. She did embrace the role of taking on twin 7 week old babies and a 3 year old toddler solo until I get back tomorrow. For some reason I think I will pay for this in the end. Gonna stay oblivious for now.

lets me, nay, she basically insists that I watch at a bar so she doesn't have to put up with me.

And I know myself better than to watch an important game within earshot of the sleeping wife and kids. Especially on a Saturday night.  I figure there was no reason to watch that game by myself at home.

But you have one heck of a wife my friend.  Keep her around.

I was listening to the game on the radio in the kitchen, doing some chores. My daughter and her sleep over friend were watching Tv in my cave . As soon as the shot went down, I raced in and took over the tv. I said, I pay for this, I’m watching the replay. All 1700 of them. Lol.
Pissed them off which meant they went yelling to the Mrs which meant she got pissed. It was a chain reaction. But sometimes, man, sometimes you just have to put the foot down.

The bad part is she has to get up early tomorrow morning and I woke her up with a yell that had her running to the living room to see if I was being murdered.

I will take the farther ass kicking I will get tomorrow it was totally worth it!!!

It is 1 AM in Arizona right now, we had a St Patricks Day party at the house tonight.

My wife is a little drunky tonight...her phrase, and for a change I am cleaning up the kitchen. I keep watching the highlights, what a great win.

Michigan has played like shit in the first 2 games, but are in the Sweet 16. I can’t wait for buckets to start dropping.

Go Blue.

my brood of 5, all together, poole hits the shot, (my kids can cuss in front of us at home), 9 year old yells "Poole made Houston their Bitch"! My wife said, "fucking A", and I said nothing, just basked in the glory of such a long, runon sentence, and my wife would he proud!

I watched the game in a hotel, having a 630am flight. A Michigan man yelling in the hallway wike my wife from a dead sleep. I was smiling ear to ear, she had no idea what was going on.

I will upvote you for the first and likely only time, both because I'm feeling magnanimous after last night and also because it takes tremendous balls* for you to show your e-face around here after last night.

So +1 to you, sir!

* Or psychotic delusions, but like I said, I'm feeling magnanimous today.

If she ever finds out how much I had to pay for the game ticket, I might be in hot water. With the late start for the game and a 2 1/2 hour drive, she insisted I get a hotel room for the night.  I assumed ticket prices would plummet as the first game started and the Kansas fans would  give up trying to buy them. I forgot to factor in how basketball crazy Kansans are which kept the prices high. By the time I got to the hotel and got online just before the Kansas game started, there were only a handful of tickets left to be had, and I ended up paying over $300 for a ticket with a face value of $90. In my mind, it was money well spent (I would probably be singing a different tune, though, if we lost).

Yeah, mine ended up being $315 + taxes and fee to pickup.  It was in the lower bowl in the corner, just 10 rows up from the floor, so it was a pretty decent seat. I'm just a cheapskate. There were only 5 tickets left when I bought mine, two people selling two tickets, and one selling the one.  If that one hadn't been available, I wouldn't have gone.  No way would I have paid what would have been well over $700 for one ticket.

There was one saving grace, though.  I hadn't used Stubhub in awhile, so I had to go through getting the email to reset my password.  The email took about 5 minutes to come through, and I was sweating bullets thinking the ticket would be sold.  I opened another window to make sure the ticket was still available, and the price had dropped some (can't remember how much), so I took it out of my cart and put it back in.  By the time I made it to the pickup location, a bar near the arena, it was already nearly halftime of the Kansas game.

I kept it together through many phantom calls by the officials - which means i kept it bottled up and was just one more ridiculous call away from profanity. I'm not sure when it happened - likely in the last two minutes when things looked hopeless. I was given the lecture. Then when the final glorious dagger claiming victory from the jaws of defeat happened - I did what any reasonable fan would do. I erupted in sheer joy. Loudly. I heard a differently toned holler from the bedroom, went to explain how it could not be helped. Logic was lost on her.

Off topic - Is it wrong of me to be dissapointed that i didn't see any after images of man-bun's kid brother suffering after their loss? I so wanted to see his reaction.

I was laying in bed with my wife zonked out next to me.  I was so not expecting them to hit a 3 with only 3.6 left, so when it went down it took everything in me to keep it quiet.  My fists were pumping like mad and my grin was ear to ear.  I'm surprised she didn't wake up from the bed shaking so violently.
