LFG Lions!

Lions game tonight feels…

Lions game tonight feels like the Michigan playoff games for this guy that was raised at Ann Arbor Trail and Warren. Let's go Lions!

Lions fan rooting for the…

Lions fan rooting for the Packers for home field next week, potentially, reasons. Feel dirty but also FTP and FTC (not that FTC).

Woooooooooo! Shit, holy shit…

Woooooooooo! Shit, holy shit. GO BLUE! National Champs!

Work will be torture. Go…

Work will be torture. Go Blue!

That was cathartic. So many…

That was cathartic. So many things to worry about in life and the instant Milroe went down those worries just evaporated and catharsis set in. Happy fucking New Year to everyone of you and GO BLUE!

The first paragraph is great…

The first paragraph is great advice. Take a year or two after undergrad to work, travel, volunteer, or whatever. The people who practice hit the hardest in my class were the K to JDs that had no real life work experience. Firm life smacked a lot of those folks in the mouth HARD.

I'm a public defender at one…

I'm a public defender at one of the best, if not the best, public defender organizations in the country and I love my job but it is extremely stressful. The adversarial nature of litigation is not for everyone and burns lots of people out. Mock trial is great but outside of public defenders and prosecutors, not very representative of what most lawyers do (even litigators at huge firms). Talking to a variety of lawyers and getting a scope on their day to day would be helpful to her. She needs to focus on getting as high of a GPA as possible. Major doesn't really matter, classes don't really matter, just the number. Similarly, she needs to focus on getting a high LSAT score. The LSAT is a very learnable test with lots of practice and if she puts the time in a 170+ is very doable even if starting from a low score at her diagnostic. A high GPA and LSAT not only opens doors for admission but also scholarships.

It's my daughter's 5th…

It's my daughter's 5th birthday and my son has a soccer tournament. I'll miss the Michigan/PSU game and probably catch the back end of UGA/Ole Miss and then watch USC/Oregon.

A peacock stole my hot dog…

A peacock stole my hot dog from my hand at the Detroit Zoo when I was 8 or so. So, I agree fuck 'em.

I thought Gannett Peak in…

I thought Gannett Peak in Wyoming required some mountaineering skills to ascend? I've known folks that have climbed it and they all used crampons, ice axes, and knew how to self arrest. Either way it is a LONG hike and it is VERY remote.

1. Baseball

2. Vanderbilt

1. Baseball

2. Vanderbilt

3. It's the school I actually went to and graduated from. Besides that, phenomenal coaching and program that puts a lot of folks in the majors.

I have a Blackstone griddle…

I have a Blackstone griddle grill, a Weber kettle, and an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker. For the most part covers all my grilling/outdoor cooking needs. The only thing I'd like to add is a tandoori oven.

He’s made posts about how…

He’s liked posts about how Jim Crow helped Black folks. This has nothing to do with politics, it’s just racism and extremism. He’s a piece of shit just like his dad.

Happy Sunday! I am working…

Happy Sunday! I am working getting the last bits of my docket tomorrow prepped and doing some trial prep. I always end up doing 4-6 hours of work on Sundays. But after some work it will be time to settle in, chill, and watch hockey/listen to music for the rest of the day. King Gizzard just announced a new album, so I'll probably be spinning their records all day.

Since 2000, 4 President…

Since 2000, 4 President Trophy winners have also won the Stanley cup. Avs in '01, Wings in '02 and '08, and the 'Hawks in '13.

I traded a bit and put a…

I traded a bit and put a premium on high RAS scores. Need athletes on defense so this is a defense heavy draft.

Egregious omission of Danny…

Egregious omission of Danny Brown, who'd I'd take over any of those 3 all day.

Not sure about specifically…

Not sure about specifically in GA, but leaving the scene can also be argued by the prosecution as showing a conscious of guilt and that's probably going to be their strongest argument for impairment outside witness testimony saying they were intoxicated or acted/drove like they were intoxicated. Given the facts, it sounds like there is no implied consent refusal, which is usually the strongest evidence against someone in a case with no breath/blood test. Not enough info here to say how strong of a case for intoxication there is here, but sounds like a slam dunk on reckless/careless driving and drag racing (which I imagine has a built in presumption of reckless driving within it).

Each element of each crime…

Each element of each crime needs to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. That would include an intent element.

RIP Takeoff. He and the rest…

RIP Takeoff. He and the rest of Migos went to the same HS as me, Berkmar, in GA. They were there a few years after I left, but they had done some fundraising events there recently. Much too young to die and it's tragic that it sounds like he was just a bystander to a fight over dice.

I'd love to make a trip…

I'd love to make a trip visiting Vietnam, Thailand, and then Szechuan province of China someday. I'd gain 30 lbs eating all that delicious, delicious food but it would be amazing.

As for sports I'd love to see a Champions League final, go to Omaha for the College World Series, and take in an Old Firm match at Celtic Park. Of course things like Michigan at the Rose Bowl or a National championship game as well.

The matterhorn used in…

The matterhorn used in Oysterhead (comprising of Les Claypool from Primus, Trey Anastasio from Phish and Stewart Copeland from The Police) songs. It was a guitar with a built in theramin over deer antlers.

Also, since talking about Les Claypool, the Whamola, which is probably best known from its use in the South Park theme song.

All hail Boognish!

We've gotten roughly 9" of…

We've gotten roughly 9" of snow here in the past 24 hours after it being in the 80s earlier in the week, so summer will have to wait a bit. I'll be making several trips to Red Rocks for shows and I'll make it out to Georgia to visit the kids 2-3 times. Otherwise it's nothing but trial after trial. One of these days I will be able to use the 2 months of vacation I've accrued so far.

- I lost absolutely no one…

- I lost absolutely no one. No family members, no friends, no co-workers, and none of my clients (I'm a public defender and it seems like a small miracle that none of my in-custody clients died. At one point the local jail was 80%+ covid positive).

- Realized I was in a loveless marriage. I was barely holding on for years because of our kids, but that realization and letting go has made me a much, much happier person. I hate it for my kids, but I'm a better father now happy and in a new loving relationship with the love of my life.

- I had a stroke, at the ripe old age of 36. Had no idea it was happening. If I had still been married I probably would have died. Time it happened is when the ex would do some additional work in her office and as you'll see below I had no idea it was happening.

I had just finished dinner with my girlfriend and got a call. I silenced it and joked that since it was from my old Atlanta area code it must be about my car's extended warranty. GF looked at me strange, I asked what was wrong and why I was slurring my words, and then she asked me to give her a big smile. I felt a bit light headed and something "pop" in my head and realized what she might be getting at, so I smiled at her and immediately turned around to look at the mirror and saw nothing wrong with my smile. Thought, phew, that's good and then my GF asked me to raise both my arms above my head. I did and did the same turn around and look at myself in the mirror. Everything looked OK to me. GF then said I'm taking you to the ER right now, because the hospital was literally across the street and faster than calling 911. 5 minutes later the front desk was calling it a possible stroke and I was being jabbed for 2 IVs and rushed for a CT scan.

It's terrifying to look back at and realize that without my GF I would have thought everything was fine. I don't understand how I saw things perfectly fine when half my face was drooping and my I couldn't keep my left arm above my head.

My GF was supposed to have been gone when this all happened. We just ran late cooking dinner. I even said, while cuddling watching a movie, that we needed to go downstairs and cook, and she insisted on cuddling for another hour. I'm not a spiritual or religious man, but that felt like some sort of intervention. My GF is, also, trans and a nurse misgendered her and I apparently yelled "ITS HER NOT HE" mid-stroke. We've been inseparable since that day 2/20/22.

Long post but I've not told anyone this whole story since it happened. Also, if you have a problem with my GF and that she's trans, please keep it to yourself you sad sack of shit.

The Tampa Bay Bucs have won…

The Tampa Bay Bucs have won the NFC North more recently than the Lions.

Drinking some Weldwerks…

Drinking some Weldwerks brews and despite a rocky 2nd half obviously really high on this team for this year. Fouls and FTs need to be cleaned up, but the team will gel more and more as the season goes on and I'm confident Juwan will have this team working like a machine in no time. Go Blue!

Horrible, horrible call…

Horrible, horrible call. Dude is sliding under Dickinson obviously.

That chucked up 3 by Buffalo…

That chucked up 3 by Buffalo's center was the ugliest shot I've seen in a while.

Play is very sloppy from Michigan so far. Fair amount of bad turnovers.

The stream is going out…

The stream is going out every minute or so for me and I'm missing large chunks of the game. Froze right when it appeared Diabate was making a monster block. Drinking Voodoo Ranger and packing the bong with some Pakistani Chitral Kush.

This stream is god awful

Hunter looking rusty early on. 0-3 from the field to start.

"We're experiencing…

"We're experiencing technical difficulties." Well, that was highly foreseeable.

Paid for the stream. Why?…

Paid for the stream. Why? Because it's Friday. I do have a job, but ain't got shit to do. So, I'm going to get high and watch some basketball.

Great, great defensive call…

Great, great defensive call on 3rd down. Way to get your head in the way Dax and a nice catch from the big man Morris!

Sounded like a player or two…

Sounded like a player or two were yelling "screen! screen!" Great awareness and play recognition. Incredible start for the maize and blue.
