I don't think OSU and MSU are

I don't think OSU and MSU are rivals.

I took it as another way to look at the priorites and culture that could enable this catastrophie. I don't think he is saying that going after trademark violations is wrong.

>How many other Nassar/MSU

>How many other Nassar/MSU articles has the author written/site posted before making the claim that we all should care more?

Err, How many articles has Brian devoted to this topic?

>So it's good to see they are finally on the bandwagon too.  Now that the entire story has been investigated and reported.

I don't think 11w is claiming to be investigative journalists. I think it is entirely appropriate to wait until most of the facts have surfaced to reflect and rais awareness (ex. See Brian's post yesterday).

>These new coaches are just

>These new coaches are just plain greedy and leave for a bigger check just like that?

How can you blame someone for taking advantage of an oppurtunity for themselves?

A bit of an ugly game for

A bit of an ugly game for most of it, but I am impressed that they were able to grind though until the end!

I am not too sure what the

I am not too sure what the survey looks like, so I will just give some general observations:

- You can design a survey with the intent of detecting trolls if you think this is important

- Surveys actually measure some complicated combinations of the answer to the survey and the participants skill at answering surveys. Depending on the design, you might be closer to one end more than the other

- I think there are many non-troll explanations for grading the game 100. For example, A LOT of people were expecting Michigan to get curbed-stomped by OSU. The fact that it was so close might make a logical Michigan fan curve to 100.

>It’s even more obvious something’s fishy when you compare this data to the data from Michigan’s wins (which were unlikely to result in opposing fans filling out our survey). In those cases there just aren’t any fans adopting the 0/0 position – so I’m pretty confident we can rule out anyone who answered 100 on both counts.

This seems like a very odd statement and very odd logic. There is no reason to expect those two scenarios to be correlated. For example: All fans are happy with wins, even if it is ugly (a win is a win). Some fans can find happiness in any situations (life champions, at least we have better academics, etc.)

If you are considering

If you are considering engineering you should also check out north campus (the Duderstdat, BBB, EECS, diag). Other than academics, there is not a lot going on (plan accordingly).

How confident are you in SOS

How confident are you in SOS rankings given:

  • Low number of games wrt number of teams
  • Games are not repeated
  • Majority of games are within conferences
  • Outside conference games are usually very skewed
>Our talent evaluations are

>Our talent evaluations are good, look at all the kids that had us in their final group that did well yesterday.  Nauta, Najee Harris, Leatherwood, etc...  Makes me feel good about the talent we have here.

Aren't these all 5 star guys? Seems like a pretty safe talet evaluation. Not sure I follow how 'we were recruiting 5 star dudes' leads to 'feeling good about the talent on the roster'.

Even if you take what you say

Even if you take what you say as fact, it still seems like a failure.

Of course 5 star players want to go to the NFL as quickly as possible and make money. Why is that a bad thing?

Co-coordinators is not

Co-coordinators is not anything new to osu.

Pretty interesting! A couple

Pretty interesting! A couple critiques:

- Could it be that that when michigan plays the refs uniformly do not call holding for both of the teams? (for whatever reason). Under this scenario, Michigan would have few holding calls against and for them.

- Suggesting bias from the refs (unconcious or otherwise) seems to be a bit weak given just this analysis, as you did not address/rule out other sources. For example, opponents might be scheming around Michigan's dominate defensive line, causing few oppurtunities for holding. This would also explain Alabama discrepency, as they also usually have a dominating D-line. It could also be a Michigan coaching issue. For example the play calls (ex. unblocked lineblacker blitzing and sacking qb) might not lend itself enough time for holds to be commited/called.

>They don’t go there to play

>They don’t go there to play school.

Of course not. Why would a highly ranked athlete whose only motivation is to go pro care about school?

Maybe 11w will shutdown the

Maybe 11w will shutdown the ability to comment for a couple of days after michigan beats them next year?

>This is why teams like

>This is why teams like Wisconsin - who never really rack it in on recruits - can be consistently good.

I think the division they are in also contributes to this.

Lower ticket prices, sell beer in stadium. Win-win.

I think this is still

I think this is still inconsistent.

Rivalries matter when the teams are relevant, because the games are higher stakes. My ideal situation is that osu and michigan are ranked 1 and 2 every year when they play each other at the end of the season.

The big ten has not helped out michigan a lot because michigan has not recently put itself in a position to be helped out by the big ten. Example, strength of the big ten has not helped out michigan to try to get into the playoffs because michigan has not been a playoff worthy team. In the future when michigan is competing for playoff spots, we will need the big ten to be viewed as a strong conference.

>Ohio State has two losses,

>Ohio State has two losses, Alabama has one. That's it.

UCF has no losses. They deserve to be number one, amirite?

I think most buckeyes do not

I think most buckeyes do not want to play Oklahoma again.

I am sure all of the osu fans

I am sure all of the osu fans would love to see Harbaugh go to the browns

This is pretty interesting. I

This is pretty interesting. I am curious what the effect is if instead of looking at total holds for the season, you look at the discrepancy against holds called in michigan games. Someone might point out that referring is subjective and as long as they are calling penalties consistently between the two teams it is fine. I think this analysis at the moment still holds the possibility that (for whatever reason) both teams are less likely to be called for holds in a michigan game.

I think the timing is more due to the early signing date.

This is an interesting take

This is an interesting take condsidering that Barrett holds a lot of passing records (including big10 passing touchdowns). I would certainly agree that he is unconsistent.

I am not too sure if I

I am not too sure if I understand the iterative model correctly. At the first pass, how do you assign points for quality of wins/losses? Do you start with an initial ranking? If so, how do you pick the initial ranking? If so, how robust are the results with some change up in the initial ranking?

Also the conference

Also the conference championship boost. You could imagine that the conference championship could have something like +10.

While luck is certainly a possibility, I am curious if OSU is doing something different with their lineman (training, recovery, etc.) to decrease the risk of a season ending injury.

>Nothing new though, can't

This is about as worthwhile as not understanding why a recruit doesn't choose michigan for the academics.

I am not sure this is

I am not sure this is factually true. Barrett has the big ten record for career passing touchdown and total touchdowns (amongst numerous OSU records).

I dont understand, didnt osu

I dont understand, didnt osu just get two straight false start penalties?

Dissenters welcome...in the designated snowflakes threads.

Some people might be...

Some people might be... alumni of both schools?!?

I am saying that it is not

I am saying that it is not obvious to me that comparing rankings provides useful insight.

Silly example: It is not clear to me how to evaluate the number 10 bank thief in the world against the number one bank secuirty system. There could be 100 thieves that are all nominally the same and/or all of the bank security systems are infact very bad. Furthermore it many not be completely clear on what merits these rankings are being assigned. Even if the methodolgy is clear, it might be controversial.

In short, I am not sure you have provided justification on why comparing rankings between offense and defense actually says anything useful.

"So, what does this mean? The

"So, what does this mean? The obvious conclusion is that our defense is better than their offense! Hooray! "

I think this is true, but it doesnt seem obvious to me from your analysis. For example, how do you think about the outcome of equally ranked offense vs defense? Is it a coin flip every play? Is it possible that the level of play in one side of the ball is superior in college such tha a rank 15 on one side vs rank 1 on the other is roughly equal?

I am personaly open to possibilities like this.

I think the interesting part here is that push to pay college athletes is not due to the sucess of the professional leagues, but rather the explosion of revenue at the college level. It seems odd to shift the financial burden away from the universities to the professional league, since there is clearly a lot of money at the college level. That being said, I enjoy hearing about possible solutions to paying athletes.
