Also, I would hope the Browns would take Saquon, who is the surest thing you could ask for.  They have not hit on a lot of guys over the years, so take that variable out of the equation....

in the minority, but I'm not that high on Barkley. He avoids contact. The next time he runs over someone will be the first time. He runs through arm tackles, but he never lowers a shoulder, even on short yardage situations. Avoiding contact is the reason he has the most negative yard plays of any non QB in college football. It damn near cost them a safety in the OSU game. It doesn't mean he isn't a very good back, but I would draft him that high in the NFL. It will probably lengthen his career, but I would never call him a tough runner.

Barry Sanders never lowered a shoulder, either.  And he was forever being stopped behind the LOS, too.  Until he wasn't...

And yes, I just compared Saquon Barkley to Barry Sanders.  Not saying he'll end up that good in the NFL, but his running style is the same.  And he's better at catching passes out of the backfield than Sanders ever was...

first year under a new head coach and the rams are off to the best start in the last 7 years at least. gurley was a top 15 pick who has since turned into a guy who can put the offense on his back taking the handoff and is able to catch the ball out of the backfield. Hes come in to his own very quickly in the new offense

Lamar Jackson is RG3 v2.0; he'll be out of the league in the five years.  Some team may draft him early but that would be foolish.  He's lanky and run dependent; he'll be lucky to survive two seasons without a serious injury.  He's the kind of QB you draft if you want to win a super bowl next year, not the kind of QB you plan to be your franchise guy for years to come.  Most teams in the top ten positions need a franchise guy, so they'll pass on him.

Rosen is a terrible QB by NFL standards; he's as good a passer as Rudock but somehow even less mobile.  He's ranked highly on preseason hype alone.  He hasn't improved year over year at all. He'll sit on the bench his entire NFL career.  This author's prediction for him is baffling.

Darnold has already thrown 10 interceptions this year and has no mobility.  That's too many mistakes for somebody surrounded by the talent USC has.  He's far from a sure thing.  Teams will let him fall into the second round if he declares for the draft.

Rudolph is the best of the four; I have no idea what he's doing at 13th in this mock draft.  He commits very few mistakes (still more than Barrett) and is a very productive passer (throwing for 10.4 YPA this season).  Second best QB in the draft is a tossup between him and Barrett.

we know that a OSU QB has not started a Super Bowl.  I am not sure, but maybe never.  That said, in the last 30 years has there been any OSU QB that started a playoff game?  I can't think of one.  Of course a few got drafted.  Jones, Pryor, etc... but has any of them ever been successful in NFL?  The only QB that I can remember having serious NFL potential was Schlichter.

I don't see how this is at all relevant.

That's like saying Carson Wentz shouldn't have been the #2 pick because nobody from North Dakota State had NFL QB potential before him, or that Alex Smith shouldn't have been the #1 pick because Utah's last good quarterback was drafted in 1959.

This guy seemed like a sure fire 1st round pick as a recruit.  Not sure if he was a bust or just stuck behind NFL talent at Bama - a bit of both I suppose. He will need to put up big numbers at the combine to go in the first half of the draft.

He is now hurt and his 4 year career totals are 5 starts, 55 tackles and 7 sacks (less than 2 per season).  Basically the Dee Hart of stud DLs...

Don't get me wrong, I get why guys would want to go to Bama but there are some risks involved.

...unless he wins a National Championship (a la "should have been a Brown" Deshaun Watson).

But Mayfield doesn't have great size, comes out of a system that has not produced NFL starters (let alone stars) and has a history with the police (remember him being form tackled into a cement sidewalk by the police about a year ago?).

I think they draft Saquon Barkley -- he's got the talent, the fanbase would be pumped, and it's a position of need (well...every position is a position of need with the Browns; but their offense is particularly bad).

There seems to be quite a bit of variance on Mo. Some projections don't have him in the first round at all, while some have him as a top-10 pick. Just hope like hell he doesn't go to the Browns.

As far as the Browns going for Mayfield, I can see it happening, just because they're the Browns. But I wouldn't use a first overall pick on a QB this year when there really aren't any "can't miss" prospects. If I were them I might not even go for a QB this draft. Shore up your offense with some weapons, give Kizer another year to be sure of what you have, and then if he's not the answer, then you take Brandon Peters #1 overall in 2019.

What I meant to say was Cleveland will select him, but they’ll forget to turn the card into the commissioner before their time is up. Happened today, so it could happen again. So Cleveland ends up forfeiting the pick.

New England then trades up in a surprise move to draft Peters. He sits behind and learns from Brady for a year while he wins his sixth ring, hands the reins off to Peters and retires after the Super Bowl, and then the next dynasty begins.

I'd rather have Chubb or Connor Williams (or even Quenton Nelson) than Barkley. The Colts need a pass rush and and offensive line in the worst way. A running back at #3 feels too much like a luxury.
