I wonder if May tries to bring Rooth back into the fold. He certainly fits the big wing archetype. It may be too late for it, but it can't hurt. His list is UGA and Mississippi State so there's a chance?

Bingo, well said. So many…

Bingo, well said. So many people here spout stuff on things they don't know. It's tiresome seeing them rage whenever the word Warde Manuel shows up on this site.

and everywhere he has gone…

and everywhere he has gone. It's a feature with Harbaugh

Football is its own dynamic…

Football is its own dynamic where it's the school's #1 revenue generating sport. Not the same with baseball.

He was bad on defense in his…

He was bad on defense in his freshman year so it's not his back related issue. He would be playing more if he can shoot but he wasn't able to get back to his freshman year level.

Also Blackwell, Storrs, Kleismet outplayed him so there wasn't room for him to see time on the floor.

Wake Forest is in a warmer…

Wake Forest is in a warmer weather state and is in a major conference where B1G is the opposite of it.

Bakich has never won the B1G…

Bakich has never won the B1G. His highest finish was 3rd place. B1G Tourney are different than the regular season.

Michigan has never won…

Michigan has never won conference under Bakich. He won two B1G tourney which is different than the regular season. Bakich's best finish was 3rd place.

Rich Maloney won the B1G 3 times and 2 B1G tourney titles.

B1G baseball isn't a…

B1G baseball isn't a priority for a lot of schools. Why would he invest in money when they had trouble attracting fans? Michigan can barely bring in people and can't sell out the stadium. Also, Bakich went for a much better job than Michigan. I would argue that Baseball is like the 7th in the pecking order in Michigan sports.

Also, Bakich has never won B1G despite having better resources than B1G schools. He was the highest paid coach in the B1G.

I would not put it on Warde for losing Bakich. Average Michigan fans doesn't give a shit about baseball and wouldn't know it.

If that's true then John…

If that's true then John Beilein wouldn't be part of the advisor group for May hiring.

I was talking more about…

I was talking more about future recruits but yes, he can bring Goldin with him.

My theory is JUB tried to…

My theory is JUB tried to woo Warde into being a confidant so he can continue to have inside access and Warde said no thanks which pissed him off. There is a reason why JUB hasn't had anything of substance as of late.

Essiegan got benched because…

Essiegan got benched because he was a huge liability on defense plus his shooting hasn't returned to his freshman year level. Plus the players playing ahead of him outplayed him.

Darius Acuff is Tyson's…

Darius Acuff is Tyson's cousin, not younger brother.

JUB has an subtle anti-Warde…

JUB has an subtle anti-Warde agenda and his tweets has been bad tbh.

The good news is he can find…

The good news is he can find a big who is skilled like Goldin who can score, pass and make good decisions. Wonder if he'll go to the European market to find a big or two.

He should be able to scale up in recruiting and target the state of Indiana hard. It's supposed to be a good '25 recruiting class. Rumor is he's after a GA from Indiana and he supposedly has a lot of connections with the in-state Indiana recruits.

Considering FAU lineup is…

Considering FAU lineup is largely 4 guards and a center so them struggling against length isn't surprising. Johnell Davis is 6'4" masquerading as PF. Luckily, May has mentioned somewhere that they want to find athletic 4 who can compete against teams with size. I have to imagine that it's easier to find that player at Michigan as opposed to FAU.

It's hard to tell what he'll do at Michigan, but I think he'll do 3 guard lineup with a tall wing player and a big at all time. I'm sure he'll prefer a tall wing player who can shoot to space out the floor like a Livers type. He needs that type of player to survive B1G.

The premises of his system is everyone needs to be able to shoot, dribble and make good decisions. It's similar to Beilein but not similar at the same time. It's part of the reason why his system worked at FAU because they have guards who can do all three from 1 to 4.

Proximity of location really…

Proximity of location really doesn't play a factor. His HS is closer to Indianapolis than Louisville. It's very much a Midwest region. It's like saying Dayton isn't a Midwest city when it's 2 hours drive from Louisville.

Where he coached in his entire career has nothing to do with his preference. If it's true, he would've been already named a coach at Louisville by now.

I have lived in the…

I have lived in the different region even if it's a couple of hours drive away, it's still a different region and different feel than the other region. Louisville is worlds different culturally wise than Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, etc.

You can be a Midwest guy and…

You can be a Midwest guy and still spend majority of your career in different region. Maybe he just want to come back to his Midwest roots. Sometimes, the job offer can keep him within the same region.

He started his career at EMU so it's not all South.

I think either Church or…

I think either Church or Abernathy or both will follow May to Michigan. I think one would be promoted within to the HC. Church has been with May for a long time and Abernathy has Indiana connections.

I think Adam Howard, the GA from Indiana University, is rumored to follow May. He has a ton of connections with the Indiana high school scene and '25 class looks to be loaded with Indiana recruits.

Here's the thing about May…

Here's the thing about May. He grew up in the B1G country since he's from Illinois and graduated from Indiana University. He's a Midwest guy and Michigan fits that Midwest criteria whereas Louisville doesn't. Also, B1G money plays a factor because ACC could be dissolved within the next few years if FSU and Clemson decides to bolt. Michigan isn't a basketball school so he'll get less pressure but with good resources. Being a football school has its benefits for basketball coaches.

On another note, I know a lot of people are worried about Indiana job being available for May, but I think there is a high buyout clause for Indiana. I'm less worried about Indiana than I am with NBA. I think NBA is a bigger threat than Indiana, but if he does bolt for the NBA, it tells me that May has done a good job with the program where it's more attractive so a good problem to have. It's too early to tell though.

John Beilein was one of the…

John Beilein was one of the advisors for the coaching search. I was told by the Warde haters that Warde ran off JB because JB hates him! /s

Gonzaga demolished Kansas…

Gonzaga demolished Kansas. They’re on the longest streak with 9 straight Sweet 16 appearances and 2 national championship appearances. If that’s overrated, I’ll take that overrated program.

I was surprised that it wasn…

I was surprised that it wasn't a personal foul because it's hit on a defensiveless player based on the trend in CFB(and NFL). McCord thought he was open but didn't see Johnson and threw him a hospital ball.

He's not on the list nor…

He's not on the list nor anyone else list. $17 million plus a new coaching contract is a steep price for Michigan to pay, and they're not a basketball school.

If he knew Michigan wants…

If he knew Michigan wants him, he wouldn't have sign an extension. He just signed it recently so I doubt that it's realistic.

This is a great summary of…

This is a great summary of May: https://umhoops.com/?p=147133

There is a reason why he's likely #1 on both Louisville and Michigan list.

My top 2 candidates are…

My top 2 candidates are Dusty May and Amir Abdul-Rahim. Both would be great fit for Michigan. They can recruit, build program and knows their stuff in X's and O's.

He already had a show cause…

He already had a show cause in his career. He's not an option for Michigan and Michigan tends to stay away from coaches with this in their resume

Not to mention that it's a…

Not to mention that it's a weird coaching cycle where JB left so late to the point where the coaching carousel has already settled. Juwan made the most sense at the time. He's a Fab 5, Michigan alum and has coaching experience even if it's in the NBA plus he was a real candidate for the head coaching job in the NBA. Warde made the most logical hire at the time.

Juwan won the COY, B1G titles, went to Elite 8 and Sweet 16. The hire looked great at the beginning, but a lot of things went wrong for Juwan. Juwan's roster management isn't great, admission didn't help either (Though it's on Juwan to figure that out), transfer portal and NIL beginning has spiraled on Juwan plus his anger had put more scrutiny on Juwan. It was time for Juwan to go as sad it is because he's a Michigan alum who loves the University.

Sure, he can recruit and…

Sure, he can recruit and coach, but he is an asshole to everyone he meets. I have not heard one good thing about Alford as a person.

lol, Michigan has admit…

lol, Michigan has admit plenty of Football and Basketball players below the high school admission standards. It's a non-issue as long as they're eligible for NCAA sports.

The credit transfer is an issue though

Michigan basketball program…

Michigan basketball program needs a hard reset. There was no other way around it. The new coach would get at least 2 year grace period because Michigan would not be good within the first two year so we'll pretty much treat it like JB's early Michigan team.

The NIL, portal transfer and other things has changed the calculus of basketball recruiting that it's possible to rebuild faster than expected, but with Michigan's systematic issues, I think it'll be slower than most would like it to be.

I can verify that Dickinson…

I can verify that Dickinson wasn't making a lot of money that people expected him to make. I know someone who works at the NIL company that works with Michigan. Dickinson only made marginally more at KU as opposed to Michigan FWIW.

It's always hard to follow a…

It's always hard to follow a legend and that's something that not many coaches would like to take this challenge.

I thought Dutcher didn't…

I thought Dutcher didn't want to coach Michigan because of what happened to Steve Fischer and the Fab 5? I read it somewhere that he has no desire to coach at Michigan \

I doubt Michigan would want…

I doubt Michigan would want Otzelberger considering his $17 mil buyout clause. You buy his contract out and give him a contract on top of it. Considering Michigan's aversion to paying buyout, he likely isn't on the list.

Dawn Staley was on the…

Dawn Staley was on the record saying she won't entertain any idea of coaching the men's basketball team.

Becky Hammon has coached at the professional level in her entire career plus there's that pregnant player comment issue. If you don't want a coach who has never coached the college level, scratch her off the list.

There's a reason why they're not mentioned.

Big 10 is terrible this…

Big 10 is terrible this season. I would argue that Big 10 is easier than SEC at the moment

Both are shady and use…

Both are shady and use whatever it takes to win at all costs. Michigan isn't that school that wants a dirty coach. They're not an option at Michigan for this reason. Michigan wants a squeaky-clean coach like Beilein.

Oats and Drew would not be a…

Oats and Drew would not be a culture fit at Michigan. Why would Drew leave Baylor?

I wonder if Glasgow regrets…

I wonder if Glasgow regrets giving the Lions a hometown discount considering there are a lot of OG getting PAID in the FA market. His contract is so low that it's laughable in comparison to the other OG's contracts.

Best QB in decades? Marcus…

Best QB in decades? Marcus Mariota won the Heisman in 2014. Justin Herbert was the QB in 2016-2019 and was drafted in the top 5. Vernon Adams had a great year at Oregon in 2015. They had two bad years of QB plays in Shough and Brown.

That's exactly why he wanted…

That's exactly why he wanted to stay at WR because he can't bulk up too much to play DE. The Olympics is his biggest aspiration so he has to stay lean for the sprinting events. He's already too big for sprinting at 220 lbs.

Nykoles Harbor committed…

Nykoles Harbor committed because of the track program, not the football program. South Carolina sprinting coach is better than what Michigan has on the track team. The coach is highly regarded in the track circle that he was always destined to go to a track program that can train elite athletes to the Olympics. That's his #1 goal.

He has a $17 million buyout…

He has a $17 million buyout. No chance Michigan would agree to do it and pay him salary on top of it

No chance. JB hated the…

No chance. JB hated the direction CBB was heading at the time and it has change dramatically since he left Michigan. He didn't want to deal with constant recruiting and 2 and done players that he has to replenish due to them developing faster than expected.

OSU is projected to be a top…

OSU is projected to be a top two-seeded team in the NCAA so it wasn't surprising that they spanked Michigan.

No idea, he weighed in at…

No idea, he weighed in at 257 which is 10 lbs lighter than his listed weight. Usually, if you lose weight for the combine, you want to do the events to make yourself faster. Did he get sick?

Most of the time, a prospect try to gain weight to show themselves that they're big enough for the position and opt out of combine workout so they can workout at pro day when they lose weight.
