Fwiw the broncos version of Sam webb, Mike klis, has said sean Payton and harbaugh are option 1a and 1a for broncos. Also said money is no object for the broncos(richest owners in the nfl by like 5x) and that the Stanford connections are verrrrry strong.
Reed just put a whooping on Casey and jalen Washington, also was way better than his teammate Felix okpara whose ranked higher. Don’t let the rankings fool you, I am taking reed over those 3 all day.
Does not seem like recruiting is heading great in this class. A class of McDaniel, Howard, glenn and a backup c target seems to be most likely. While good for most schools, not the typical level of a Howard um class. Also seems like 2022 is down nationally.
Been around arguably the best program int her country
Young
Well spoken
He has been THE play caller for some of the best offenses in cfb(Elliott has been the play caller since chad Morris left). Jeff Scott was not the play caller when the two of them were there, it was Elliott.
Juwan is going live at img and in the state of Florida in 2022. Jett, Bradley, jarace walker, Eric Dailey and um seems pretty strong with them all. Then you have Gregg glenn who is Jetts best friend and was working out with Jett, Jace and juwan at Juwans Miami house during covid.
Nuggets are not a poor defensive team, they are an average to above average denfensive one. All stats say it, hell in the last 4 game sevens they have played they have held opponents to 78,89, 86 and 100 and other than the spurs they were all rockstar offensive teams(Portland, Utah, and LAC). Bad defensive teams don't do that.
Jokic is average to above average defensively and always has been, and the analytics show it. While not a shot blocker or extremely switchable guy, he has elite instincts(positioning is always very good),is string as hell, is an elite defensive rebounder and has extremely quick hands. Yes he was hurt by Utah, spread pick n roll teams are far and away cause him the most issues. Other than the first few games of the Utah series, defense has not been the nuggets issue.
Hard to believe a program of um's stature is now going on 20 years with out enrolling a McDonald's all American. I maintain thats the most incredible stat in college basketball recruiting. Theres 1000% a curse, these recruitments never work out.
FWIW the weather in Colorado is much more milder than the weather in michigan. Common misconception about colorado is that it snows all the time and the winters are brutal, not the case at all in the front range.
On Bediako, fwiw Sam Webb said on the 247 recruiting podcast this week while he thinks um is sitting good with Reid(sounds like his mom especially likes um) that um staff feels the best about Bediako among the bigs they are after. Would love to get Bediako(hyper athletic mobile shot blocker) because he compliments Dickinson and could potentially see some minutes next to him. Reid and Dickinson are just so similar. Also, IMO Martelli is proving to be the best recruiter on this staff. That dude has been all over the place in this class. Hes the lead assistant for Brizzi, Warley, Allen, keels, Tschetter among others in this class.
I have the feeling that um ultimately gets and may be currently leading for Warley and Brizzi. Two kids that fit um and that the staff has long time relationships with. Also seems like Martelli is turning into the best recruiter on the staff.
Reading some tea leaves around the net, I am not saying their coming here but I think um is much more in the springer and Williams recruitments than they are being given credit for.
I posted this in last weeks recruiting roundup but based on the rumblings from unc(full at his position) and uk(no visit from calipari) they aren’t nealry as involved in this recruitment as people think. I think um has a pretty good shot in this one if todd doesn’t go overseas.
Dave Brandon runs all the other sports- Brandon was actually a great at this and willing to invest in Olympic sports and move on from underperforming coaches
On Todd, fwiw unc 247 site says despite the visits to unc, he will not be going there. Supposedly he is just friends with some unc players. I have also read from some reputable people that uk is not a factor for todd(calipari has yet visit him during this eval period). Memphis insiders also say the communication between Todd and the coaching staff has been lukewarm. Of Todd’s final 5, juwan and self are the only coaches to do in homes. With kus ncaa issues, um’s biggest competition there could be overseas(word is Todd is heavily considering that).
I thought they were building a performance center by the admin building for those sports. BTW does anyone know what is going with the rest of the facility stuff Brandon had planned like the new arena for volleyball, gymnastics and wresting and swimming upgrades? Here is a link to it all
http://support.mgoblue.com/victors-for-michigan/explore/
Brandon had the quite the vision, I hope it all gets done
They put a bunch of various stuff in it like put put, a nap room, etc but it doesnt look anywhere near as luxurious as some of the other facilities out there like oregon, texas a&m and bama.
The college basketball coaching community is very relationship oriented, more so than college fball. Donlon and Collins have known each other since they were kids. Fwiw UK lost one of their assistants to St. John's a few years ago.
Yes he failed, he was fired for a reason. He never made an NCAA and was known as a horrible recruiter and bad offensive coach. Great defensive guy but his best role is serving as a pseudo d coordinator.
This may end up a good hire and he's definitely qualified but according to those in the know in the lacrosse world this process has been completely botched. A. Manuel has had an associate ad handle it, you really think that makes a top coach feel comfortable B. Word has been um doesn't want to pay the market rate for top coaches, Quinn kessenich reported this and specifically mentioned that Um wasn't willing to pay what other b1g coaches were making c. Um has reportedly approached this hire with the usual michigan arrogance, it's Michigan and you'll take less for the privledge to coach here. This job was very highly thought of prior to the search but as the search has gone on coaches have started to feel that um is not committed to providing the resources to have a top program. Btw word from some Maryland insiders is conry is next up but that um is scrambling back to Towson coach Shawn nadelen and making one final run at him.
On an inside lacrosse podcast an analyst said that heavy hitters were interested in um but were trying to get um pay more in line with the top coaches in the country. Hope um doesnt let pay prevent them from hiring a top coach.
When rrod was in the running for the bama job it would have been considered laughable to think it was an easier/better job than Michigan and an easier place to attract talent to. Rrod would have most likely been worse there than he was at um.
A. Lacrosse is a much newer sport, therefore it is much easier to get a program started with no tradioton
B. Purdue football isnt backed by one of the 3 biggest ads in the country
A much better comparionson would be florida softball. Really until the late 2000's softball was entirely dominated by the west coast. Pretty much all of the talent and top teams came from the pac 12. However florida, a school of similar stature to michigan added a program in 1997 and made womens college world series in 2008. The sec also now dominates the softball landscape because they can and do spend more resources on the sport than any other conference. Money wins out and as these big time ads get mroe serious about lacrosse, your going to start seeing them rise. You already are with programs like nd, osu and psu. UM is viewed in the lacrosse world as having massive potential. If UM is willing to pay, um will land a big time coach.
Beilein is very good basketball college basketball coach, salesmenship wise in recruiting he is one of the worst power 5 coaches. Inexcusable to get in on bamba as late as he did.
It's an amazing pro football town that is obsessed with the broncos and rightfully so considering the success. No city in the country that has all 4 major sports that is as obsessed with one specific local team like Denver(really the entire Rocky Mountain region) is with the broncos. Butt lucked into going to one of the premiere franchises and pro football cities.
They renovated the lockeroom, they did a meh job at best btw, and the football museum but haven't touched pretty much anything else. It's a really dated facility.
The stuff thep layers and coaches actually use at schembechle (weight room, players lounge, coaches offices, rehab and tarining facilities, metting rooms, players lounge) pretty much haven't been touched since the facility opened up in the late 80's. The facility was becoming very dated and well behind the times.
Rrod is a guy that innovated something but then didn't evolve his idea. Chip Kelly learned the read option spread from him but took it and added various passing elements and sped the tempo up. Meyer did similar things after rrod taught it to him. As the spread profilerated and top programs started to run it, rrod also lost his schematic advantage because he refused to value defense and refused to embrace high level recruiting. His failure post West Virginia are due to his stubbornness. He is way to loyal to crappy assistants, refuses to evolve his offense and refuses to value defense. I wouldn't even want him as an oc anymore, there are much brighter spread offense minds out there.
When it comes to fixing non revenue sports, it generally is all about willingness to commit resources to them. Brandon was very willing to do it, a lot of ads around the country arent.

Turned down interest
Elliott cut his teeth recruiting Georgia and Florida, trust me if you can recruit those areas you aren't going have any issues recruiting the midwest.
Some rumblings out there that um is growing strong with Chet Holmgren too.
Anywhere but Alabama and I'll be fine with it, tired of losing 5 star basketball recruits to vastly inferior programs
PFF now has onwenu rated as the 2nd best ol in all of the nfl. Just yesterday Balas was trying to act like he was bad at UM lololol.

Getting beat out by Stanford and FSU for 5 stars wings/gurads is peak um 5 star wings/guards recruiting curse.

Unless wright is a rockstar recruiter out of the gate, its a major step back in recruiting with these two hires.

Best setup for Michigan athletics would be
jim Hackett runs football
Dave Brandon runs all the other sports- Brandon was actually a great at this and willing to invest in Olympic sports and move on from underperforming coaches
Bill Martin runs the finances and donor programs
Theres rumblings Notre dame and Purdue are now out for Dickinson, have you heard anything Matt d?

Its being done in two phases, one phase costs 14.8 and the other costs 21 million. Grand total for the project is around 35million.

Yep and the lacrosse world seems to be rooting for it as micigan being a top program only helps the sport grow.
