I understand the impulse to say “who care?” like the other commenters, but this is a hilarious story regardless of where it happened and I recommend following the link if you have a couple of minutes.
I think what we have is fine, we just don’t have enough of it. I assume the coaches were clear with Charleston that he’s a depth piece/special teamer and I’m happy to have him in that role. He probably won’t get meaningful offensive snaps but he gets to say forever that he played for Michigan and he gets a free year of Michigan grad school. Good deal all around.
We have a number of good young receivers, especially with Moore and Bell looking good in the Spring. All of them have multiple years of eligibility left so it’s got to be tough to recruit transfers even aside from our offensive philosophy. We’re missing 3 things: depth, experience, and size. I’d love a star 6’4” grad transfer who would help with all three but that’s probably not in the cards.
Charleston doesn’t address size, is experienced but not at a high level, and is clearly meant to provide depth. Given the meaninglessness of scholarship limits, he would be a great addition on that front alone. Walker’s return gives us size and more depth but he is lacking in WR experience. I’d still love that star grad transfer, but if we get Charleston and Walker, we’d have 8-9 scholarship WRs (depending on O’Leary’s status) all but one of whom have more than 1 year of eligibility. It’ll be an unproven room, but a talented one that would no longer be rail thin.
If both Moore and Bell had passed Clemons and English, their transfers make a lot more sense. While our depth is perilously thin, if you’re 5 and 6 on the Michigan depth chart, you’re getting maybe 5 targets over the course of the season and everyone above you still has multiple years of eligibility left.
I’d love a tall grad transfer to round out this group for this year but I see a lot of potential for this WR room down the road.
I know Seth is on the Mason Graham for Heisman train, but if Grant is the goal-line back and racks up a bunch of TDs, voters might prefer him to Graham.
Nowhere in that ‘apology’ did he even acknowledge that comment. I might believe he’d make the gesture and say he’s glad he’s here to Richardson if Richardson famously made that gesture after games. But no way he says the final line to Richardson. I think he realizes that, which is why he doesn’t mention the line at all. Renders the entire apology insincere and besides the point.
That's what I figured it was, too, until a recent WTKA Roundtable where Seth and Sam suggested that if we had better background checks back then, we would haven't hired him. That doesn't sound like it was a COVID ADA thing.
They've played the Illinois game at Wrigley before, even when they had their own 'stadium.' It would shock me if that game, at least, wasn't located there or elsewhere in the Chicago.
I looked it up and of the other two fast kids Harbaugh tweeted about, Connor Easthope is a QB at Harvard and Addison Coquilard appears not to play college football although my google skills may be lacking there. I'm hoping Harvard's working on a triple option package to use Easthope's speed.
His job title has been filled. The spot he opened up on the coaching staff by leaving has not been filled.
You can have 11 on field coaches. Harbaugh, Minter, JayBaugh, and Partidge leaving brought us down to 7 such coaches, asssuming everyone else is staying. Yes, we have a head coach, but as of Brian's post, we hadn't hired anyone to fill those 4 empty spots in our allowed number of coaches. That's what he means by Harbaugh still needs to be replaced.
It’s listing the 4 people who have left who have yet to be replaced by someone external, I.e. Sherrone replaced Harbaugh; Newsome replaced Sherone; but no one has yet replaced Newsome, so the opening created by Harbaugh leaving is still available even if his specific job isn’t.
I think Craig's opposition to the buyout is ideological: the buyout is a restraint on the employee's ability to move jobs and Craig has always been a pro-employee guy. I don't think he's wrong in principle, but buyouts in coaches contracts are ubiquitous so I don't quite understand why thought it wrong for Michigan to want to include one in the contract.
Also, I must have misunderstood Craig because it seemed to me he was saying that Michigan was trying to put the immunity clause in the contract when I thought that was Harbaugh's doing (Jim wanted immunity from being fired for cause if the NCAA or Big10 suspends him more for past infractions.)
Mike Sainristil: warlock. Made a pact with some powerful creature enabling him to come out of nowhere to play both offense and defense at a high level. Also very charismatic. Also only needs to sleep for an hour before getting all his abilities back. OK, I might be making up that last one.
Herbie is a good in-game analyst (although not as good as Klaat) but is a lousy talking head during the rest of the week. If I never had to hear from or about him except during a televised game, I'd like him much better than I do currently.
No mention of Waller in the list of CB2s in the projection. I assume this is just an oversight and not because Waller won't be with the team, but my paranoia makes me worry.

Didn’t you read the OP? The wonderful Wimsatt is now available!
It’s good to have some of that vaunted SEC speed in the program.
Welcome to the newest Wolverine! Here’s hoping he leaves with at least one ring.

Where does Bob Loblaw fit in this continuum?
Was really confused for a bit by the thought that someone from NiN was an offensive tackle.
As long as it's just a fluke, I won't worry. But I'm perch-ed on the edge of my seat to see if it's a bigger trend.
Do you think he left just for the halibut?
Mike Jones
Right, which is why we need to coordinate the hype train.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he did it himself.

Nico Collins was the 3rd best WR in 2023 according to PFF.

User name checks out.
Dunno, but he does also have a very particular set of skills.

Just the tip?
What was the deal with Bob Shoop?
BTW, Shoop was recently hired by Marshall to be their S coach. I hope he shows up on campus.
The story here about his hire doesn't even mention his Michigan 'work.'

Makes sense. Both have similar levels of fan interest.
I wonder if he skates in the same style as he runs. Probably be hard to do any stick-handling with both his arms straight out behind his back.
I spent a weekend in San Jose about 20 years ago. To this day, I have no idea how I got there and so do not know the way back.
The way Seth and Sam suggested something would have come up if they did a thorough background check on Shoop makes me think this wasn't COVID related.
Ben Hall?

Inaugural facts?

Eyes closed, head first. Can't lose.
Denard for OC! He's already on staff!
It should be noted here that nearly every koala has chlamydia. People should be careful before considering giving Joe what he asks for.
I don't understand that at all. In what way could/would Minnesotta be our most impressive win?

I was ambivalent about whether to fire Warde or not but his refusal to use an Oxford comma has put me firmly into “Fire” camp.
So we know the one spot in the draft he won’t be going.
I forgot how fun it was to watch Hassan Haskins hurdle fools.
Thanks for the video and the diary!
Balvenie 21 for me but sadly not out of Michigan glass.
And bring back Gold, Irons, and Steele to be analysts or something.

Or FSU, which is 53rd now.
Freshman early enrollee, perhaps?
Here’s hoping he transfers somewhere where he gets another chance to whoop OSU ass. My favorite walk-on ever.
