Trey Burke "The Shot" vs Jordan Poole
Hello MGoBlue Family!
Like most of us today; I am riding the high after last nights shot by Jordan Poole. Incredbile! I couldn't help but think after last night about all my favorite moments with Michigan Basketball. Many with the Fab Five of course.
But when it came down to the final seconds; my favorite has been Trey Burke vs Kansas.
Does this beat Trey's shot against Kansas? Curious to get the boards thoughts on Jordan Poole's shot last night vs Trey's shot.
How does this rank and do you have a better moment that beats these two great shots in history.
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine; GO BLUE!
Note: I tried linking (youtube)Trey's shot as a refersher from youtube but site wasn't allowing me for some reason.

Trey all the way. I take nothing away from Poole it was a sweet shot but Burke has him in my book. It was later in the tourney with added pressure.

I think how far we go in the tournament will help decide which was better. As it stands now, Trey's shot was bigger.

I'm not sure how to compare them in terms of pressure. Trey dribbled it upcourt knowing he'd probably take the shot, and did, while Poole didn't know if he'd get it and had to instantly catch and shoot. Trey left a bit of a time and we might have had one more shot at a 3 if we'd gotten the offensive rebound while for Poole, that was it, win or lose.
Both were just awesome, that's all.

think last night involved more luck. Burke was pure from there, and he “had the puppies organized.”
He had that range, it wasn’t the first time Burke had poured in a 30 footer that was good all the way. Poole is a very good shooter but last night was a prayer.
Didn't Burke bank his shot in?
I'll take a pure swish, walk-off, buzzer beater 3 as the horn is sounding over a banked in 3 to tie with 4 seconds left.
He did not. Burke's was all net.
Poole's definitely had a higher degree of difficulty (had to catch and shoot super quickly). So yeah, it was either luckier or more impressive or both.
It was also to win the game whereas Burke's was just to go to OT.
So this is a really tough one. Burke's shot definitely grew in Michigan lore with each additional win because the Final Four banner made it mean something.
Poole's is probably overall behind right now but has a chance to overtake Burke's shot depending on how far we go.

They were both clutch. They were both long, but I think Poole was even more guarded than Burke.
I think what this team does from now on will decide how it compares. If Michigan goes on a run and ends up winning the championship, it'll be better. If they lose next round, then Burke's will be better because it meant so much more.

2 free throws #SwishSwish

They're both legendary in their own right. You say "the Trey Burke shot" and everyone knows. The "Jordan Poole shot" will be the same.
It's interesting that both were from about the same distance, just on opposite sides of the floor. Someone better at technology than me should splice the two together into a video to compare the shots.

I turned the TV off after Houston scored with 3.4 second left. Did not find out we won until 5 minutes ago.

Never over till its over my man! March Madness 101.
Go blue.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:19 PM ^
Actually they didn't score with 3 seconds left, which was the key!

I turned it off after we missed and had to foul. I was disgusted. Then all these messages came in and I couldn’t believe it. Scared my wife who was sleeping by that point (11 month old in the House).

It ain't over, baby, till it's over...guess which one you are.
I must admit that for half a second I thought about doing the same. But having witnessed some pretty dramatic miracles in the Beilein era, I clung to a shred of hope. Feels pretty awesome to have seen a fair number of these in the last 5 years. Poole against Houston, MAAR against Maryland, GRIII against Purdue, Chapman against Indiana. And of course Burke's shot.

Like JJH says comparisons aren’t fair . . Both shots were incredible.

Poole is a GIF jedi
Eating confetti
Putting confetti on Jim Nantz's hair
And am pleased that I undersold his genious.

even though Burke's shot only tied the game, when Kansas called the TO after the shot, you knew that Michigan had already won...Burke's shot was...well...Deron Williams in 2005 against Arizona epic...
That can change, though.

Higgins put back against Illinois ... beating that team seemed almost impossible that season
March 18th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
I remember that; that team was tough!!!
March 18th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^
Because Id take
Higgins 2
Burke 3
Poole 4
But based on importance. Nothing beats that shot as far as excitement. A buzzer beater is the best.
Illinois kicked our behinds 2x that season

I like this one better, but both were splendid.

We took down the #1 seed after fighting back from a huge deficit. This game was a sludgefart against a lower seed in an otherwise terrible performance. This game winner was incredible—and probably a crazier shot—but the Burke shot was still more meaningful, IMO.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
I thought this was a really good defensive performance, just ugly on the other end.
Houston didn't have the profile of 2013 Kansas obviously, but they were apparently a top 10 team (per Torvik) over the past month and it sure seemed like they had our offense scouted down. They held Cincy to 55 in their conference title game. It's a solid win even if not pretty.
Going across sports, I see a few parallels with the Anthony Carter TD against Indiana in the late '70s. Great individual play, maybe not as impactful as a similar shot later in the tourney ... in the football game, we were tied with a mediocre Big Ten team at home.

I was in the building for the Trey shot, so that one will always rank high in my book. Plus that one was the culmination of an unbelievable comeback. Still in awe of how they clawed back in a game against the 1-seed like that.

I would of loved to be there and paid some coin for that ticket.

Trey’s trey for me. I ran around my house after Poole’s ball went in, but let’s be honest, that was a heave and the gods were on our side. Trey got to his spot on the court and made an amazing shot. Poole’s result however was obviously more climatic as it ended the game. Burke’s got us to OT.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^
Agree!
March 18th, 2018 at 12:24 PM ^
They were different situations and both epic in their own right, and I think that's the key really. Both of these moments, among others in Michigan sports history, are moments where I know where I was and what I was doing when I saw them happen. In that sense, they are kind of on the same plane for me.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:26 PM ^
I just remember tingling with excitement after both games. Feeling blessed and happy.
Would you ask someone which of their kids is their favorite? That's the way this question feels to me.
This is my take on it, and I was there last night. That Trey shot was magic. Poole's shot felt completely improbably. I felt like that game was already lost, and we stole victory right out of their hands. Trey's shot I kind of expected him to hit. 2 different teams, different heros all together.
I see it literally the diametric opposite of you. I felt like we would win last night virtually the entire time. The only time I really was anxious was when we were down with one possession to go.
Burke’s shot was a gift from the basketball gods that I certainly did not expect especially against a team like KU.
are different from mine!
March 18th, 2018 at 12:26 PM ^
Burke's shot was a program changer. Poole's could be only if they win the next 4.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
I watched both highlights on YouTube and I cannot say which ranks higher because the baggy shorts all of the players are wearing in 2013 distracted me.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
The jury is out since we're still playing, but for now, Trey's shot still has it. That shot ended up sending us to the Elite Eight and it was against the number one seed in the region. Also, we trailed Kansas virtually the entire game (by 14 with five minutes to go, if I remember correctly) and that shot capped an epic comeback. Oh, and we made it to the national championship game that year.
Not to take anything away from Poole, but the only way I see that shot topping Trey's shot against Kansas is if we end up winning the tourney.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
Trey's shot actually tied the game, and we had to win it in OT - but after it went down, I knew we were not going to lose.
March 18th, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
Different situations. Both awesome.
Just glad I got to see both live and in color--the triumph of Trey Burke and the birth of Swaggy Poole.

I haven't seen anyone post a link to Trey Burke's shot against Kansas, so here it is.
Sorry, IDK how to embed.

Trey's Shot was just one of many amazing shots that he made in that game.
Thanks!!!!!!
That shot man...gives me chills.
