Rumors: DeVante Jones did not Travel, Won’t Play
March 15th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
Tragic if true
Played his heart out and was rewarded with a tournament chance only to have it snatched away without even a chance to play
I am not saying this rumor is not true, as I have no idea, but if it is true why hasn't the line for the game really moved at all? I am seeing -2 or -2.5 basically everywhere, which is the same as it was two days ago. Maybe a few more -2s then -2.5s, but you can't tell me DJ is only worth (less than) half a point in this game?
March 16th, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
It’s something to keep an eye on, with as many casual gamblers are there are now lines may not move as fast? Just a thought
Yeah, Vegas was just slow incorporating this information. It is down to UM -1 now.

Yup, as a Michigan fan, this is what I expect, Michigan will lose, then everyone will bitch and say Texas A&M should have been in instead.
Those people should realize that A&M chose to play Limpdick Tech and Diarrhea State instead of playing a real schedule like Michigan did.
March 16th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
I knew a guy who went to Limpdick Tech. He said getting accepted wasn't very hard.
Yes, yes, I know. But considering the dick punch news to Devante and the team, I thought a little humor might be warranted. I feel terrible for the kid. He improved so much since the start of the season, was finally going to play in the tourney, and now this. Shit.
67 out of 68 tourney teams lose their final game of the season. More than half go 0-1. Who gives a shit what they complain about.
And as always, complain about ND, Rutgers, Wyoming, and IU if they want- those were the last 4 teams in. They "took" A&M's unearned spot.
March 16th, 2022 at 10:11 AM ^
How do more than half go 0-1? Half the teams win there first game and half the teams lose. So, exactly half go 0-1.
March 16th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
Doesn’t the play in game change that stat line?
March 16th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
68 teams make the tourney. The maximum number of teams that can go 0-1 is 36 teams (4 play in, 32 teams in round 64 -- the 4 play in winners, also win in round 64). The minimum number of teams that can go 0-1 is 32 (4 play in, 28 teams in round 64 -- the 4 play in winners lose in round 64 and go 1-1). So yes, more than half the teams can go 0-1.
March 16th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
The play in games always mess me up. Are they part of the "tournament" or not?
If the play-in games are considered (which seems appropriate in this case since the post to which i responded mentioned 68 teams), then as you point out, while possible, it is not a given that exactly 1/2 go 0-1. But, it is also not necessarily true that more than 1/2 teams will be 0-1 (the assertion to which I replied).
March 16th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Agreed, exactly 1/2 going 0-1 is very unlikely.
March 16th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
5 possible cumulative records for 4 play-in game winners in the round of 64 (4-0, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3, 0-4).
If i do this correctly.
1 scenario each where all play-in game winners win (lose) in round of 64.
4 scenarios each where one and only one play-in game winner wins (loses) in round of 64.
6 scenarios where exactly 2 play-in game winners win in round of 64.
So 16 total scenarios. 6 if which have play in game winners cumulatively going 2-2 in round of 64 (the result needed to get exactly 1/2 of teams to go 0-1).
If the odds of each scenario occuring were even, then 37.5% chance of play-in game winners going 2-2 in round of 64 (ie, exactly half the teams going 0-1). Given that they play-in teams are seeded lower, I'd guess the odds would skew towards the play-in game winners having a losing cumulative record in the round of 64. How heavily this is skewed i don't know. But, there seems to be a decent chance that exactly 1/2 teams would end up 0-1.
March 16th, 2022 at 12:02 PM ^
As noted below, the play-in winners could also win their games (it's unlikely obviously with the 16 seeds), which means 36 teams finish 0-1. But for example, here are the teams that went 0-1:
- App St.
- Wich St.
- Mount St. Mary's
- MSU
- Missouri
- UCSB
- UVa
- EW
- VCU
- GC
- St. Bon
- Georgetown
- UNC Greensboro
- BYU
- Texas
- UConn
- Iona
- Hartford
- UNC
- Winthrop
- Purdue
- Utah St.
- Colgate
- Va Tech
- OSU
- Drexel
- GT
- Tenn
- Liberty
- SDSU
- Moorehead St.
- Clemson
- Cleveland St.
Because UCLA beat both MSU and BYU they gave 2 teams 0-1 records. Drake, TSU, and Norfolk St. all won their first game so they finished 1-1. Thus you have 33 teams going 0-1 if we consider the play-in games part of the tournament.
March 15th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
Shit. If it’s like Livers, I’m assuming it’s an injury?
March 15th, 2022 at 10:52 PM ^
This is beyond horrible. This has been a cursed year for Michigan BB.
March 15th, 2022 at 10:55 PM ^
Fitting.
March 15th, 2022 at 10:56 PM ^
Fuckin hell I hope this is a really stupid prank.
March 15th, 2022 at 10:57 PM ^
If he's not traveling it feels like covid or some other disease and not an injury.
Also devastating if true both for him and the team.
March 16th, 2022 at 12:17 AM ^
Further research implies the rumors right now are a concussion picked up in practice for other reading this thread. It will probably be confirmed as accurate or not pretty quickly at least.
Why would he not travel if it was a concussion?
a.) i don't think altitude and cabin pressure are good if you have a dinger like that
b.) he isn't cleared to play and the game isn't until tomorrow, so conceivably he can pass protocol and travel today. its in indianapolis, not LA.
They took a bus, not a plane
March 16th, 2022 at 11:53 AM ^
Ever had a bad concussion? 4 hours on a bus on the highway might as well be 4 hours on a mechanical bull with someone throwing flashbangs at you.
I believe the bus to Indy. A few years ago after the B1G tourney in Indy, I was driving north on I69 heading to MI and I passed the UM basketball team's bus going in the same direction. Not sure why they would fly such a short distance.
March 16th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
That is unusual. Unless it is a really bad one. If it is a really bad one how is he doing so many interviews?
Weird. Weird team. Weird season.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:00 PM ^
I'm so tired of crap like this happening right before huge Michigan games. Livers injury last year. Daxton's illness before the Orange Bowl. Now this. I heard it was concussion protocol for Jones. Really sucks.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:05 PM ^
Jabril peppers before Florida suck university
We have some time between that event and now, so I hope one day we find out what the injury was or if he wanted to sit out to stay healthy for the draft.
They literally released the practice film where you can see him pull-up injured...
Thank you, Jabrill slander should not be tolerated
March 15th, 2022 at 11:04 PM ^
Christ. What else can go wrong in this crazy season?
March 15th, 2022 at 11:07 PM ^
Did you just ask that? :)
The 2017 (plane crash) team would like to have a word with you. They're asking you not to ask such questions.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:08 PM ^
Rumors are its a concussion...could play Saturday if cleared.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:09 PM ^
Wasn’t he hurt during the Indiana game? He was limping a bit then kept falling down. That’s awful for DeVante :(
March 15th, 2022 at 11:11 PM ^
wow... that is awful.
Forget about the game - for Jones personally, this is truly terrible, as playing in the tournament was a dream of his. If true, it must be covid related, otherwise, you'd think he would travel with the team..I am not a doctor, but you'd be able to travel with a concussion wouldn't you?
It sucked for X and Teske not to play in the tournament in their final year as seniors, but at least they had been there previously
I hope this isn't true.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:45 PM ^
Maybe it was from hitting his head on the floor last game?
Or in every game before that. Really like Devonte but he hits his head and/or face more than any player I have ever seen.
Might not get on a plane, depending on the circumstances. No idea if the team is flying or not. They obviously flew the time the plane almost crashed but that tournament was in D.C.
Pretty sure they bus to Indy. It's not that far.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
Might explain the 2H against IU. He went from incredible in the 1H, to hardly being able to maintain his dribble in the 2H.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:33 PM ^
Really hope that’s not the case.
If he got a concussion during the IU game and it was noticeable on the court, it wouldn't say many good things about Michigan's training/medical staff...
Which coach was aware but not fully aware?
If he got a concussion during the IU game and it was noticeable on the court, it wouldn't say many good things about Michigan's training/medical staff...
You can say that again.....I thought something was wrong with him though, yeah he does have some weird turnovers throughout the year, but he couldn't stand on his feet for about 5 possessions in a row. This sucks for him, he worked so hard.
March 15th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
This stinks if true. He has been playing some good ball last month. Sad with him wanting a chance at tourney. Kobe and Frankie gonna play a lot.
