MacDonald: Target for Raven's DC position
Ei Ei Does he Go?
Not surprised if he ends up going back to the Ravens but wouldn't Mike have better job security at Michigan?
January 25th, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
I don’t get it. Hey Jim, here’s your savior but you have to give him back next year. Idk. Just weird.
January 25th, 2022 at 8:56 PM ^
A year ago it appeared the Ravens had a DC that would be there for as long as John Harbaugh was there. They were a top defense every year.
Things change quickly.
January 25th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
Ok, but why would the Ravens hire the understudy of the dude they just fired?
January 25th, 2022 at 11:29 PM ^
Because he’s good
January 25th, 2022 at 11:29 PM ^
Because the reason the guy got fired was some butting heads and tension with the head coach and some baffling play calls at the end of the game, not because the overall scheme was a problem.
He went to Michigan to get DC experience, not to be the DC for the next five years at Michigan.
January 26th, 2022 at 3:09 AM ^
I mean, that kinda happens all the time. A school will fire a coach and then go hire one of his former assistants.

If there is anyone in this transaction who knew this is exactly how things would play out - I want his advice on my crypto investing.
January 26th, 2022 at 1:33 AM ^
crypto = scam
January 26th, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
It is a big scam, but you can exploit it for quick profits.
January 26th, 2022 at 7:13 AM ^
Buy low, sell high. Works every time.
January 26th, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
My source at Ravens: He is not close to the top of our list and we have not asked Warde for the permission to talk to him.
My opinion: He will be off to NFL soon, but not this year.
January 25th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
Michigan: Where dong punches are basically the expectation.
January 25th, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
Come on. We got a pass to not be miserable for at least a few months.
January 25th, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
Cheer up buttercup.

How did I not know this clown carried stuffed toys around?
January 26th, 2022 at 8:03 AM ^
I’ll never understand why they wear their anal beads around their neck like that.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:10 AM ^
He prefers the smell?

I must lead a sheltered life.

This photo is glorious

Only thing missing is a large tear on the cheek... and a cooler.
January 26th, 2022 at 9:13 AM ^
Chances this incel actually attended OSU?
January 26th, 2022 at 10:12 AM ^
FWIW I met "Big Nut" this summer on the Lake Erie Islands and he's actually a pretty cool guy. He does a ton of fund-raising for charity in his get-up, isnt an angry OSU fan at all (just very emotionally engaged) and was fun to talk to.
Now if you want to discuss "Buck-I-Guy" that dude is a first class 100% douchebag. Even the OSU fans hate him. He actually crashed a funeral.
January 26th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
Very true — hate them all but you cannot put him and the other even remote to the same category of person.
January 26th, 2022 at 11:09 AM ^
He actually crashed a funeral.
Is that wrong?
January 26th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Um...yeah. Especially if you do the following:
1. Show up in full costume
2. Sign a tribute to the deceased (who you never met) "Buck-I-Guy" that was meant for players only
3. Hand out flyers on how to purchase "Buck-I-guy" licensed merchandise.

I think you missed the reference.

That's the blessing and curse of college football: the impermanence. The years bereft of talent and competent coaching are only temporary, but so too are the years of elite players and game-changing coaches.
January 26th, 2022 at 11:32 AM ^
Not just college football. Deep life lessons in your post.
January 25th, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
Really getting sick of all these up and down coaching rumors. Wish I could just go to sleep and wake up at the start of next season to find out who's coaching where.
January 25th, 2022 at 8:54 PM ^
The price we pay for having a good team. Nobody was pursuing our staff after last season when we were calling for them to be axed.
January 25th, 2022 at 9:00 PM ^
Brady Hoke did a great job in keeping his staff intact...yeah, because no one wanted to hire any of those guys.
January 25th, 2022 at 9:19 PM ^
There hasn't been a rush to hire Jim Hecklinski or Darrell Funk??
January 25th, 2022 at 9:25 PM ^
Nope. Or his brother Jeff.
January 25th, 2022 at 9:36 PM ^
Especially his brother Jeff.
January 26th, 2022 at 10:01 AM ^
Two brothers left: Giveupthe and Whatthe

Then how come OSU doesn’t face this? How come nobody wants Larry Johnson as a DC Or Ryan Day as head coach? And they are successful most years.
January 25th, 2022 at 11:31 PM ^
Osu lost their defensive coordinator to being a head coach for like four straight years at one point. Ash, Hafley, Schiano. Also lost Herman to a head coach position and would have lost day if urban hadn’t had to resign. It happens to every team
January 26th, 2022 at 1:51 AM ^
Exactly, they have extremely high turnover as does Alabama. They just replace with more good guys though (except when they miss like with Coombs).
As for why no one wants Ryan Day. Uh, probably almost everyone wants him but what's the step up job? There aren't any in college and the NFL isn't exactly clamoring for college coaches. He's at the summit already.
January 26th, 2022 at 9:15 AM ^
Born on third base, you could say.
January 26th, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
Maybe because Larry Johnson is 70 years old, only wants to coach the dline and gets 1.13 million for doing it.
January 26th, 2022 at 4:25 PM ^
Then how come OSU doesn’t face this? How come nobody wants Larry Johnson as a DC Or Ryan Day as head coach? And they are successful most years.
Ohio State assistant coaches get poached every year.
January 26th, 2022 at 7:02 PM ^
As do eggs. Someone really ought to do something about all this willy nilly poaching.
January 25th, 2022 at 10:43 PM ^
Which is what makes Saban even that much more amazing. Clearly has sold his soul to the devil. What else can explain it?
January 25th, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Doesn’t he run the same D as Martindale? Why would they fire a guy and then hire a younger version of that same guy?
January 25th, 2022 at 9:00 PM ^
Way too much speculation so till MacDonald leaves, if he were to I’d be interested in Martindale as his replacement. Ran the defense for years and taught it to MacDonald. Bigger thing would be how is he as a recruiter.
NFL isn’t so simple, it’s all scheme every week, so you get some players injured or out due to covid, it really puts a strain on a coordinator and that is what the Ravens dealt with all season. Not sure why he was fired other than scapegoated and then oh, we need to replace him….
January 25th, 2022 at 9:13 PM ^
If Mike Macdonald goes to the Raven, Michigan could hire Wink Martindale to replace him. A one-for-one swap. Martindale signed a three year contract in Feb 2020 for $3.25 million/year. The Ravens are on the hook for Martindale's 2022 salary. Michigan could hire him for peanuts for one year and the Ravens would have to make up the difference in salary. The did something similar with Jedd Fisch when he was fired as OC with Jacksonville. Another possibility is Vic Fangio. He was Jim Harbaugh's DC at Stanford and the 49'ers. Denver owes him $5 million for 2022.
January 25th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
Wasn't Wink Martindale a game show host?
January 25th, 2022 at 10:51 PM ^
I thought that was Dink Winkerson...
