The Chargers aren’t trading Herbert and they aren’t drafting McCarthy. They also won’t be drafting any Michigan players for sentimental reasons. Like any other team, they’ll be looking for the most talented player available who they believe will function well in their system. Maybe a Michigan guy might get the nod if all else seems equal, and maybe Harbaugh might learn toward players he knows who go undrafted when it comes to signing free agents, but that’s it. If they want to draft a RB and they think some other back will be better in the NFL than Corum, they’ll take the other back. Nothing weird about it.
I could see the Chargers taking one of those big time WR’s so they can let Keenan Allen and Mike Williams go. Their cap hits are insane!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
That was fun. Thanks for posting.
I’m not sure if it’s his superior athletic talent, outstanding efficiency, superb intellect, high emotional intelligence, winsome personality, infectious leadership, or 27-1 national championship pedigree that the naysayers must be focusing on with him.
He was throwing the ball 70 yds with ease and on target. He’s a #1 draft choice, franchise QB.
I think he’s ripe for the pats, giants or broncos
The pats want a QB that’s going to still rip it in bad weather…Mac Jones can’t…JJ…has only played outdoors in the north

J.J. McCarthy
Michigan · QB
The fact that McCarthy decided to throw in Indianapolis -- after the most highly touted QB prospects declined to do so -- was a checkmark in the favor of the national championship-winning quarterback. With so much on the line, he could have waited for the friendly confines of his pro day or a private workout to throw in front of NFL teams. McCarthy's arm strength looked just fine on Saturday. He displayed a nice arc on 60-yard passes that should show evaluators he can stretch the field more than he needed to in Michigan's offense. His footwork and timing were not perfect on every pass, and he sailed a couple of cross-field throws, but overall, he made a strong case to be one of the top three quarterbacks drafted this year.
J.J. McCarthy's heard all about his low passing volume in Michigan's run-first offense. And frankly, he doesn't care about any perceived statistical shortcomings. But he did take the opportunity to show off his right arm in Indianapolis.
Unlike three of the most highly regarded quarterbacks in this class -- Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels -- McCarthy chose to throw during Saturday's on-field workout. While the 21-year-old didn't titillate evaluators to the degree C.J. Stroud did a year ago, McCarthy earned plaudits from NFL Network draft guru Daniel Jeremiah at various points during his workout, with Jeremiah complimenting the zip on his ball and clean footwork.
"He's a pure thrower, very loose, very fluid," Jeremiah said during the broadcast.
NFL Network's Peter Schrager provided a positive review of his own, supplemented by some interesting reporting.
"He went out there, competed and threw the ball very, very well," Schrager said on the broadcast. "I got a text from an NFL evaluator, very respected one, saying, 'Of all these guys, McCarthy translates to the NFL the most.' He had an outstanding day out here."
This tracks with earlier reporting on Saturday from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, who said before McCarthy's on-field workout that general managers are highly intrigued by the Michigan product's upside, suggesting he could be the third quarterback on some teams' boards.
McCarthy actually made a bit of news before even hitting the Lucas Oil Stadium turf for positional drills, assuaging any concerns about his frame by checking in at 6-foot-2 1/2 and a robust 219 pounds. While he didn't run the 40-yard dash or perform the jumps, citing a bit of hamstring tightness, McCarthy did complete the three-cone drill in a swift 6.82 seconds, exhibiting the kind of athleticism that will only boost his draft stock.
All in all, a very productive trip to Indy for a polarizing QB prospect who appears destined for Round 1.
Genuine brothers for life 👍
The NFL is littered with NFL Draft busts and guess that don't match the hype.
For every Trevor Lawrence and CJ Stroud There's
- Sam Darnold
- Zach Wilson
- Dwayne Haskins
- Kyler Murray
- Baker Mayfield
- Justin Field
- Danial Jones
- Trey Lance
- Mac Jones
Some of those guys are serviceable but you're not going anywhere with them.
2020 was the outlier with the top 5 guys being really good QB's.
McCarthy looks like the clear 4th option and will certainly go in the top 10 and maybe the top 5.
I believe will will be the first skill position player drafted in the first round since Braylon Edwards.
He will likely be the highest drafted Michigan QB and the first 1st rounder since Harbaugh in 87
