You must not have seen how tame his post was, probably warranted some post practice sprints for a week and a half game suspension by the coach. I'd like to add him to the class!

EJ Holland (On3) also put in a prediction for him to Michigan.

I think the coaches have been doing a pretty good job of due diligence.  If they want him, welcome aboard.

I feel like social media has really destroyed the idea that young kids should be allowed to make mistakes and grow as people.

The sad truth is that if he has enough talent, he'll be given a second chance.  But I feel like everyone should be given a second chance once they acknowledge their mistakes and pledge to be better.

To be fair (i have 12 and 10 year old boys) --- theyre also super stupid. They put EVERYTHING on camera. They think that because its sent in Snapchat - also awful for humanity's sake - that its gone... no . its . not .

But kids have thoughts, they put them on social media and forever more they are linked - I agree that its an unfair standard. My older son did something very stupid and potentially dangerous a few weeks ago - my first thought was... IDIOT!!! HOW COULD YOU DO THAT??! I would neve.... oh wait.. i did TONS of stupid things, but they were never on camera and I didnt get caught.

Social Media is like a 'gotcha' account to capture impulses that you later pretend you didn't have.

My son is 12 and constantly annoyed that I won't let him have any social media accounts.  I finally caved in to letting him have a YouTube channel, where he posts videos of himself acting and talking like a moron.  I can't seem to get him to understand that some day, soon, he will be embarrassed about it.  I'm hoping it stops when the testosterone kicks in and he cares more about girls than video games.

its hard to monitor too... i didnt even want him to have a phone, but at risk of being a pariah, in my wife's eyes, before starting middle school this year, we got him one... but the phones are so locked down that "monitoring" content and conversations is nearly impossible. Also, the feed of info/videos/posts is so universal now, banning watching youtube video shorts doesnt do anything (my god what a giant waste of time) ---- because they can watch in in every stupid app.

Hate that they have so much information at their fingertips, and they seem to know less and less.

My daughter was super savvy from very young, and we kept her off of everything. That didn't stop her setting up an Instagram account for three of the most popular girls in her seventh grade one day after they harassed her all afternoon to do it for them. Within an hour, they were being followed by a group of Swedish sailors. You can imagine the weekend we had with those little girls' annoying parents. . .

Don't mean to dampen your hopes, but don't assume he'll start caring more about video games than girls any time soon.

But I think it's smart to keep your kid off social media until they're able to understand consequences.  We were able to keep our kids off at least that long, so nothing incriminating there (as far as we know, the eldest got a job so seems good).

Man, I'm getting a taste of this snapchat BS with my 12 year old boy as well.  He's in middle school and getting girl crazy now.  I keep trying to get through to him that putting his every thought out there is not real life.

The thing with us is we come to this forum, talk sports or whatever else, and go to work, do things around the house, ect.  Its a battle getting the kids face out of the phone (before talking it away) so they can unload the dishwasher or put their clothes away.

Sorry, thats all of my rant.  You opened up that can of worms for me lol.

No kids in school anymore but the other day I heard that some state is trying to pass a law banning cell phones in schools. My thought was, they allow kids to have cell phones in school??? BAN PHONES FROM SCHOOL! This isn't even hard. There is literally nothing good and about a million things bad about phones in school. smh

My son's school allows him to have cellphones but he has to turn it off during class. Works well when he has to text me about something instead of going to admin office to call me. It is also useful when has to contact me after one of the clubs he goes to so I can go pick him up. It has its uses.

I am a very protective dad. I had to give that up and instead resort to educating him. I had to face ups and downs with him but it is better than being completely shutout of his life I guess.

Thats not a realistic take anymore (& I'm likely older than you).

Families are hyper scheduled with a myriad of after school activities & sports.
Almost impossible to coordinate without at least end-of-day / change of plan communication.

That being said, my 12 year olds have no phones or so-med at the moment but it is very tough to manage.

I just found the post. Dumb move on his part, but hardly warrants kicking the kid off the team. It could have and should have been used as a good teaching moment. Not saying no punishment - have him sit out a game, run some extra sprints, apologize to teammates, etc. - but the post was pretty tame (and probably poorly thought out).

I can't speak for others, but I'm all in favor of ruining a kid's potential because he talked badly about his high school team once.

TBH..... i that that coach is ass for giving him the boot.   Kinda makes you think that coach is pretty thin skinned.... soft you might say.   Hell, he might have been born on 3rd base.....

Maybe, his coach decided to kick a 50 yard field goal instead of going for it on fourth and two heading into half on the road in the biggest game of the season where he said he was “wanting to be aggressive.” if so, I’m OK with it.
