Coach Drevno on the Sideline
October 28th, 2017 at 4:54 PM ^
I sure as hell hope he stays there.
October 28th, 2017 at 4:54 PM ^
I can confirm, tv showed him a couple times down there
October 28th, 2017 at 6:04 PM ^
"It's either the sideline or the unemployment line."
October 29th, 2017 at 9:05 AM ^
Not likely
October 28th, 2017 at 4:55 PM ^
Saw that too.
October 28th, 2017 at 4:56 PM ^
Confirmed. One step from Harbaugh, in constant communication.
It also looked like Harbaugh was calling plays at certain points
October 28th, 2017 at 5:12 PM ^
My guess is they had to change the logistics of play calling for Peters. I noticed Peters was coming to the sideline and getting the call verbally from Harbaugh and then jogging back to the huddle. That takes an extra 5-10 seconds that they probably had to trim off of their normal by-comittee approach.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:34 PM ^
The only exception was the drive just before half when they went hurry up.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:58 PM ^
Defense had less time to adjust. Works for me.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:40 PM ^
Best guess is Harbaugh was making sure Peters was comfortable with every playcall and coaching him up a little extra.
Still could have been the committee approach (the man wears a headset and Peters was on the horn with Pep between series); would be a good question for the presser if a reporter can find a way to ask it differently/better than the previous Qs about playcalling.
October 28th, 2017 at 9:52 PM ^
Peters is rather limited in his mastery of the playbook, from all appearances. These are logical deductions. One hopes that Peters will grasp more as time goes on.
October 28th, 2017 at 10:13 PM ^
I agree, hopefully it's enough or he can learn enough to be not terrible from here on out.
I can't recall where it was, but Harbaugh said he likes QB's to take 2 full years learning the offense before seeing significant time, so Peters is probably right on track.
October 29th, 2017 at 10:30 AM ^
Peters and Evans had some uncomfortable moments with handoffs ... but I think Peters is ahead of both JOK and Speight in pass routes. The throw to Nico was perfect and was delivered faster than either other QB. His "on the run routes" were very good with the one exception ... which I don't think he'll ever miss again (I think he thought the receiver was coming back to the ball).
With being named the starter - he'll work with all the "1's" ... but don't be surprised if Collins sees a lot more playing time (IMO he's well ahead of McDoom as a receiver).
Go Blue!
October 29th, 2017 at 10:17 AM ^
Drevno was on the sideline from the beginning of the game, it certainly didn't help JOK in the least.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:29 PM ^
Calls all our offensive plays. Always has.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:33 PM ^
That's a daft thing to say.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:35 PM ^
Harbaugh has final say. He doesn’t call all the plays. He just essentially holds veto power in the event he doesn’t like the play call
October 28th, 2017 at 5:39 PM ^
Calls the plays. You can try to say he doesn't or listen to what him or others say about it in press conferences. I guarantee you he calls the plays but whatever.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:44 PM ^
you are guaranteeing something despite all coaches saying otherwise? I'm mean maybe you're right but why on Earth should we believe you? do you have some kind of insight here? What a weird thing to say.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:46 PM ^
off the top of my head there is the famous "good shit Jed" quote that proves he hasn't always called plays.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:46 PM ^
why on earth indulge this clown?
October 28th, 2017 at 5:53 PM ^
Shit Jed means good play design. If you don't believe me I don't give a shit. I'm telling you Harbaugh calls the plays.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:13 PM ^
ok, well no one believes you since you aren't even trying to defend yourself with anything other than "trust me". sorry random internet guy, I'll believe what coaches and every other person has said over you.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:18 PM ^
Cool man. Go Blue.
October 28th, 2017 at 10:37 PM ^
has taken personal responsibility for the play calling. Yes the coaches contribute to that process, but in the end, Harbaugh says that he decides what play is called. For every play. He's explained this in multiple pressers in the previous two seasons and at least three pressers this season.
Many of you may find Inman annoying, but in this case he's correct. Based on Harbaugh's own words he is the final decision on what play is called.
October 28th, 2017 at 10:57 PM ^
i know this is getting beat to death and probably unproductive but can you provide any quote to prove Harbaugh calls plays? I've found several including former Stanford staff saying everyone is involved and that he has final say... including on defense. Fisch gave a detailed interview, here's a quote: "Instead of designating one person to serve as the team's chief offensive play caller, or limit the discussion to himself and one other coach, Harbaugh keeps an open dialogue going with his entire offensive staff from snap-to-snap on the sidelines during game days.". If you're saying because he has final say he's the play caller, then fine, but that's not the normal definition. If that's your definition, do you also say he calls defensive plays?
October 31st, 2017 at 9:48 PM ^
His comments responsing to questions in the pressers have always (IIRC) been about offensive plays. It's not my definition rather it's Harbaugh's response to questions about who decides what play is called. His answer, uniformly, has been he does.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:18 PM ^
how are you still here?
October 28th, 2017 at 8:05 PM ^
I do more lurking than posting, so I don't feed the trolls... This Inman character has stuck around far longer than most. He's not even interesting. Just an inflammatory dick. Kinda disappointed in the mods.
October 28th, 2017 at 9:07 PM ^
He called me an internet builly the other day because I questioned why he said something stoopid... Whatever.
October 28th, 2017 at 11:25 PM ^
They have likely banned him several times already. At this point, the thing to do is leave him be and hope he gets tired of his schtick
October 28th, 2017 at 8:15 PM ^
Yeah this guy needs to get banhammered asap.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:24 PM ^
ok, maybe, but if you watch him during drives he doesn't say much. I'm sure he says things like run it more or exploit that matchup but I see no evidence that he is calling every play. Here's a quote from a couple weeks ago: "We call the plays together as a staff," Harbaugh said Monday in Ann Arbor. "I have the final say on the play calling."
October 29th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
The guy that makes the final decision is the play caller. It matters not how many others are involved with advising him, but the guy that makes the final decision is the guy that should take credit and must be held responsible.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:20 PM ^
I'm waiting for the wife to get ready. I know it's pointless but I'm bored.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:32 PM ^
Except he doesn’t call all the plays. *insert “good shit Jed” gif here*
October 28th, 2017 at 7:33 PM ^
Barry Manilow writes the songs.
October 28th, 2017 at 8:38 PM ^
Douche nozzle.
October 28th, 2017 at 9:03 PM ^
Says the guy who posts "fuck the liberal snowflakes" randomly... Lol.
October 28th, 2017 at 8:23 PM ^
manage the huddle and play clock so well. No TOs or delays. Peters looked comfortable with the cadence and adjustments at the line. He had some missteps in the backfield with handoffs, but relatively smooth with the basics.
October 28th, 2017 at 4:58 PM ^
Maybe him and Pep were getting into arguments in the press box.

October 28th, 2017 at 5:01 PM ^
what do you find interesting? it's a change but what do you think it means? I could see this as good or bad. today was good so I guess all change is good.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:10 PM ^
It's interesting that all facets of our offensive game seemed to improve with him back next to Harbaugh in constant communication.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:15 PM ^
do you think drevno on the sidelines was a bigger factor than Peters taking over or the fact that we were playing Rutgers at home? We were better but drevno being on the sidelines is not high on my list of reasons. even if that's your thesis, why do you think that made them better? I'm not trying to be a dick but you aren't saying anything. I'm assuming there is a reason you believe this but you seem unwilling to say.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:32 PM ^
I should be fair and say that I'm still on my phone, so no proper analysis until I get back to the dorm (and my PC).
My hypothesis is that he had a larger part in play calling by being on the sideline, but that's just a guess. I'll talk to the people I know involved with the team and see why he moved back down to the sideline.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:20 PM ^
Right, a competent qb had nothing to do with that.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:33 PM ^
... but I also think the play calling looked better.
October 28th, 2017 at 5:50 PM ^
did the play calling look better before Peters? I thought the play calling was extremely conservative because we thought we could push Rutgers around. Rutgers can make a lot of play calls look smart but I was very disappointed with the start.
October 28th, 2017 at 7:15 PM ^
That's fair. Like I said above, this was my quick take on the issue. I'm looking forward to looking at the film and seeing what I couldn't see from my POV at the game as well as UFR for this week. Should be interesting.
Either way, I think that sticking with both changes (sideline Drevno and Peters in as QB) are the way forward for this team.
October 28th, 2017 at 6:40 PM ^
Play calling always looks better with better execution.
