ben braden could be a decent comparison. looks like a 30 year old playing high school ball. maybe a little stiff compared to other recent starting guards but he has the ability to move people off the ball. would be a nice addition
im sure they do want to sort out nickel first - playing the #2 dictates much of modern defense. its a vital position in all phases, run/man/zone/pressure
it takes serious reps and the right mentality to be able to consistently throw with timing and anticipation from solid base vs big ten D - not many guys can do that at the requisite level, ever. not to mention all the checks, getting into good plays or more importantly, out of bad plays, etc.
they did just win the national title though so theres that. losing entire offense was always going to be tough. however itd be nice to see moore and crew gain some momentum on the recruiting trail, pay off the playoff run they just had
its a recipe for disaster given young people (often with limited informed counsel), contract-free negotiations, crazy transfer rules, sharks circling, etc.
i cant think of many that object to student athletes earning on NIL, they just disagree with the current setup. i cant imagine going to 3-4 schools in as many yrs.
they need to build guardrails before the current system implodes. top athletes will always get paid. the great change is the rest of the kids being given license to earn during college years
sounds about right. if hed have to pay his own way for another year at michigan (i believe he just finished his 5th yr) then might as well get in state rate
interesting move. i know many were pushing for al washington despite lack of successful coordinator run. i actually knew al back in the day at bc and liked him - maybe the decision makers heard about his traitorous transfer to osu with mattison!
yes, if theyre not capable of coordinating at the highest level. maybe one or both would be great in that role. were not in the building so we have no clue. some guys top out as position coaches though. nothing wrong with that. its difficult to see the whole picture, call a game, manage staff and an entire side of the ball. maybe they havent promoted internally bc moore doesnt see anyone up to the job. tough balance bw finding the right guys and getting a full staff up and running in timely manner
well it takes fast, strong, smart players to win. they had this kid as number 1 receiver target for a reason. having a unique prospect on the hook to play in 3 yrs is preferable to this alternative.
michigan doesnt get a chance at many 4.3 type skill players - sure, they end up with talented athletes regardless but world class speed never hurts.
when they can capitalize like they did with roman wilson, its helpful to do so. guys like like can make a big impact, clearly
if he has no passions id suggest trying to sample a variety of potential fields via class, career fest, internship or just shadowing someone for a few days here or there. plenty of people willing to mentor hard workers, just need patience and willingness to ask (and follow up).
also would suggest personality testing. be honest, try to gain a solid assessment. theyre by no means foolproof but can help younger people better understand their skillset, disposition, etc. ie, some require external motivation while others are overflowing with internal drive & discipline. introvert vs extrovert. if forced to choose, more sales or data inclined. building models or relationships. these insights may help narrow his focus
or he doesnt like the offense. oregon had 2 guys with 80 catches, threw for over 4k.
plenty of reasons why prospects dont choose michigan.
harbaugh built a unique team these past few years, at least given michigans constraints like admin/alum culture, weather, regional recruiting, etc. the future big ten will be a battle, particularly in this wild west environment. curious to see how it plays out
certainly could be bs. could also be true - or somewhere in between, which is often the case.
totally understandable that short of a dream contract in college, herbert intended to accept nfl offer. so he shot for the moon - pay me double or stretch it to 10 yrs or whatever.
maybe he simply works well with harbaugh. not that hed end up in similar situation with moore but he just saw a crazy situation unfold w hoops strength coach.
who knows. we do know he currently has the top contract in college, i believe. hes worth it too, at least according to the staff/players/parents. no one spends more time with players than strength staff. incredibly important position, as evidenced by the uproar here
i assume this speculation referenced them coaching on the same louisville staff, not them playing as teammates.
any decision other than finding/promoting a sharp coach who can install and manipulate the same scheme theyve been running during this historic run is dead wrong. theyve had quite a few pros out there executing on the field but their current system clearly did its work too. the new DCs name doesnt matter as much if theyre energetic, enjoy recruiting, try to maintain current scheme
whoever can maintain the current ravens D in terms of structure, installs, game planning process, etc. doesnt even have to necessarily be a raven, as long as they know what theyre doing. maybe its someone already in the building, maybe someone currently elsewhere in nfl. while theyve had good players the past few years, the scheme and process is clearly a winner right now so continuity there would be huge
another national title with no QB and 5 new OL starters?
its possible but lets be real - its highly unlikely.
they just went on a historic run with the most complete roster michigan might be capable of fielding these days. plenty of talent remains but its difficult to consistently reload as a developmental program.
and thats ok - not just bc thats the way it is but also bc they just won a championship!
mullings might be the most intriguing player going into next year. he had an impressive season, given limited reps. hes a legit athlete who runs hard, made a few catches, dished out numerous brutal blocks, etc. he appears to have nice instincts as a runner and carries 240 lbs well which is no fun to tackle. just a really good all around football player. mullings stayed as a role player, became a champion - nows the time for a much larger role.
bredeson is easily the rosters most underrated player (though likely not for many readers here) - curious to see if they expand his role at all, maybe add some touches next year. hes no gamebreaker but 2-3 targets/game could help a shaky QB
most staffs schedule time off during summer dead period. theyll take a few days after bowl season but successful coaches rarely take down time when they have access to players/recruits.
harbaugh won a national title so he can do what he wants. no complaints here - he built a championship team and that run was amazing. he earned the right to test the market, again.
everyone should acknowledge though that the uncertainty absolutely impacts the program. where, how much, etc, we wont really know until the few subsequent versions take the field. teams not building now or taking advantage of momentum will need to make up for it later.
thats a sacrifice most gladly accept. i certainly do. they just had a parade!
not directed at your comment, more in general - simply saying theres no need to pretend that more harbaugh uncertainty doesnt matter or doesnt affect the program
yeah i forget the exact stat but hes leaving with one of the top winning percentages in college football history.
he was a major factor in 3 straight big ten rings plus that elusive national title! michigans best modern QB, and its not particularly close.
id turn pro too. another year of practice/game reps may help his pocket presence, post snap reads, etc and add some more polish however QB such a unique position that a 1st round grade dictates entering the draft. if a teams willing to make 1st round investment, youre likely getting more time/resources to develop at the next level. much easier for teams to move on from non 1st round picks. different story if scouts dont grade him as 1st rounder.
seems like the appropriate decision. hes been a beast for michigan - now its time to chase brady as the next elite michigan pro
sainristil is a great athlete and 2 way star in high school who shouldve started out on D. also hed already made an impact on O. simply a very good football player.
wish dixon every success but seems more like the cases of big guys shuffling bw OL/DL with limited to zero game impact
unfortunate tune to have evolved into the programs anthem.
its cool that so many seem to enjoy the song and like singing it at games.
ill never understand the love, nor did i understand years ago as it took shape at the big house - still, michigan just won the national championship so who cares!
jenkins deserves mention too if were recognizing the front. the younger guys made more wow plays but jenkins did his thing and has been an important, versatile piece
less than 5% chance minter returns, regardless of what occurs tonight. he may be the top pro DC candidate, not to mention the college teams thatll offer him head gigs.
youre right though that harbaugh/moore need to find a way to keep this current scheme going. even if it means giving the keys to jay or clink or elston after getting the ravens tutorial
yes, its not possible without major changes to michigans approach.
doesnt mean they wont build strong rosters, theyll just never do it at this rate by signing scores of top national prospects.
i wouldnt attend michigan as a top prospect if lsu or georgia guaranteed 500k or whatever. guaranteed vs potential earnings, thats an uphill battle. interesting times
maybe, i dont know as i only saw his brief highlights on this site. he looked ok.
i do know mccarthy has always been accurate and always had excellent mechanics. add to his athletic ability and demeanor, its easy to see why mccarthy was highly touted
i saw it live but appreciated it more seeing the highlight online...mullings de-cleating the edge on mccarthys run. really hope he gets a shot to carry the load next year...seems like a great dude with legit versatility.
i appreciated numerous bredeson blocks, per usual. also said it that night but thats even more of a crazy flag to throw on him given the way they seemed to try to call the game
theres likely no one more relieved than morgan that michigan overcame various mental lapses to pull out the win. both teams, who are typically two of the more fundamentally sound programs, played very sloppy ball.
plenty of guys have struggles under the bright lights or play up and down, not just frosh but all ages. morgan has been a promising player this year who no doubt contributes to many future wins.
learn from it, bounce back, become a battle tested champion
I can appreciate that.
However the historic call will occur next week with “and McCarthy takes another knee to cap a special season for Harbaugh and his wolverines as they earn their 1st national title since 1997”
agreed. plenty of nerves, missed tackles, etc on the field but they also made a ton of plays and were poised when it mattered
the staff was excellent this game though. plenty of offensive approaches this year/years past have driven me mad but they were well prepared this game. good run/pass balance, tried to stress the entire field, had a few new/adjusted concepts specific to bama, early down throws, etc. overall did a nice job vs one of the best ever defensive coaches.
his guys have been great for years. years of excellent ST production.
i have no problem giving coaches their share of blame when due. its not due in this case.
staff cant play the game - they cant squeeze the football for the players. they cant perform the foundational tasks which the guys getting playing time have repeatedly proven theyre pretty good at...until the biggest moment tonight.
maybe you can fault the staff for not giving certain guys a beta blocker before the game. what else can they do. the staff has been solid tonight. the guys on the field have determined the outcome so far
ST is disappointing given the mostly excellent season. bama makes 2 50 yard FG, makes extra points, drops a handful of punts inside 20, doesnt lay down a punt. unexpected from michigan. and devastating.
O has been mostly what we should have expected. not hoped for like during some impressive stretches in the first half but expected. theyve struggled to consistently move the ball and score vs this seasons handful of living defenses.
still got opportunity here. mccarthy and crew can be legends with a big time drive
momentum...major reason why you cant have true frosh dropping gimme conversions in big games with razor margins. not just blaming one guy. sainristil has maybe 4 missed tackles already after such epic season.
michigan needs to stop giving this game away...thatll be heartbreaking for the players...but theyll deserve to lose if they dont flip it now

youre probably right, sadly.

mason grahams father/brother/3rd cousin?
9 million pounds total or something like that, with the fuel and all.
impressive engineering

plenty of nice lineups here. id find a way to include jamal crawford. only played 1 year but not many top him in terms of pure talent
braylon edwards. he had a handful of decent seasons but not even close to reaching sky high expectations
Is she a “cornball brother”?

money usually does buy rings though. michigan was the anomaly as a champion that didnt break the bank on high school recruiting
yes i was going to mention that sequence with the huge punt, then the safety.
michigan likely still wins with a touchback as maryland needed a TD but that kick was significant
another national title with no QB and 5 new OL starters?

yeah, i appreciate his resilience. impressive to bounce back from so many season ending injuries.
thats a long time to be chasing college athletics though. he could be in residency by now
makes sense. its his current college team vs various nfl teams.
different story if the wager is simply nfl vs ncaa.
is there a 'stay/go' line, no teams listed?
most staffs schedule time off during summer dead period. theyll take a few days after bowl season but successful coaches rarely take down time when they have access to players/recruits.

yes its odd. michigan doesnt have a bunch of guys pulling in 500k plus, at least based on what ive heard/read.
big difference bw getting a free car and 75k or whatever vs the rookie minimum base of 750k
wonder if he wouldve moved to washington had the pac12 remained intact.
fisch has a loaded sophomore class returning so arizona likely wouldve been pretty good again. theyre building in the right direction.
big 10 ball draws more eyes though so hes clearly moving up.
i recall reading about arizonas massive budget deficit - losing their best coach in recent history wont help matters
yeah i forget the exact stat but hes leaving with one of the top winning percentages in college football history.

has to be osu in 21

massive execution on first down with the explosive, great work finishing!
creative calls and the fellas did their jobs.
now just need to maintain great communication and tackle in space to bring this home
at this…
thatd be great.
at this point ill settle for a few first downs, pin them deep with another 5 mins off the clock.
the D has been great but the staff needs to find something the guys can execute here
cant have the second level triggering run every single play with no other concerns.
and there we go, finally a QB run!
thats a first down plus energy and confidence. about time
time for some mullings carries here. scheme up wilson getting ball on the move too. points are huge on this drive
less than 5% chance minter returns, regardless of what occurs tonight. he may be the top pro DC candidate, not to mention the college teams thatll offer him head gigs.
