This is a huge story. Former UGA DL Jalen Carter and projected top 5 pick now has a warrant out for his arrest after he was street racing a teammate and staffer at twice the speed limit, the other car crashed resulting in 2 deaths, he fled the scene, and proceeded to lie to police about where he was

You absolutely don't take him.  He's a very good tackle and absolutely could be a multi-year All-Pro.  But there's also a non-zero chance he gets charged with manslaughter or a similar offense and now you've got a high-end pick who isn't going to see the field for a year or more.

And that doesn't even get into the shifting morality people apply (and not saying OP is doing that) to guys who are good at sports - he was drunk, drag-racing someone else in two huge cars down city streets and his actions contributing to the death of two people.  He's not "owed" an NFL contract just because he's talented, and the fact he may still skate by with a slap on the wrist is bad enough.

Take Weatherspoon or Gonzalez at corner or trade down; there is undoubtedly going to be a team who'd want Carter and this team has enough issues on defense that moving down to, say, 10th and getting another pick would be worth it.

I've gotten to the age that I do really care about the vibes around a team.  I'm not naive to believe that everyone who plays for a team is some upstanding member of society but I have zero respect for anyone who drives drunk and it would sour the good feelings around this team to take Carter and hope people just sort of ignore it.

I guess I'll just be wrong but I'm sort of amazed that the only BAC that seems to be reported is for the dead recruiter assistant and none of the other people involved in this incident.  But then again a week ago it turned out that the Alabama player who brought a guy's gun to him outside of a bar and then parked his car such that it was exceedingly hard for the future victim to leave couldn't be charged with any crime so maybe I'm just lost right now.

If they had balls they’d charge him with manslaughter but they’re just getting him for reckless driving and that is a shame.
