Anonymous B1G players speak on Michigan

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

I know ESPN or another outlet routinely does one of these every preseason but Zach Shaw from 247 surveyed some opposing players about M:

“We won more games last year, we won more games the year before that and we won more games the year before that. That’s all I’m going to say and to be honest I think that’s all I need to say.”

There's a 127% chance this is an MSU guy.

Not all responses lacked respect, though:

“What they did last year proved that they deserved this recognition, being in the top five and whatnot. And when we went against them they beat us, and beat us bad. I’m excited for the game and I’m excited to go back to Ann Arbor, one of my greatest football memories was going to Ann Arbor and beating them. But that’s a very, very different Michigan team than what they have now.”

I enjoy hearing what players of other teams say about UM after playing against them. It's good to see we are gaining that respect back and once we roll throught the B1G this year that respect will continue to grow.

I really don't care what 18-22 year olds have to say about much of anything. I will never get the time back that I wasted in clicking into this thread. Nor will you in reading my post.

Understands that we're the real deal this year; only MSU continues to live in denial.  I don't think there's a team on our schedule, including OSU, that expects to beat us.

They're smarter than than.  We don't have Rich Rod or Brady Hoke as a coach anymore and we have a damn talented roster.  I'm sure they think they can beat us, and maybe that they will beat us, but I highly doubt they expect to.

MSU needed a miracle to win last year and OSU lost more than half their team to the draft and graduation.

I disagree...I think good coaches know that they can absolutely lose if they don't execute properly.  Look at OSU last year...they EXPECTED to win every game last year and got smacked around by some very inferior teams.

Expect to win is country club mentality.  WInning teams take every game as a life or death scenario.  If they don't then losses like the one_that_must_never_be_named can happen.

Is this seriously a feature now at Big Ten Media days?  You take a team and have players release anonymous statements about said team?

I know the off season is long but I kind of miss the days where everything related to college football on the internet wasn't pointless clickbait.

Man, you can hear the chapped ass all the way here from that quote.

It was funny - I read The Only Colors season prediction the other day, and every one of them was like "we'll a couple of games, but the biggest thing will be beating UM for the 8th time in 9 tries."  It's almost comical how important that game is still to them despite all the grandstanding about how they are shooting higher than that.

I get a sense that their time at the top is coming to an end.  They aren't going to fall to a bunch of 7-6 seasons, but OSU and UM are both out-recruiting them and have at least as good of coaches.  It's a tough recipe to stay ahead of those two schools in the long run.

Yeah, Moo U. beat Michigan last year in a game they didn't lead until the clock read 00:00.

Good on them.

HA!

Wow, such a petulant lil' Sparty thing to say. Always mad at Michigan, and it's because despite all their recent success, they know that STILL nobody gives two craps about MSU.

“They’re definitely up there. If they’re not the best they are way up there. Pretty much all the guys I went against last year when they shut us out, I believe most of them are back again. Those guys already knew what they were doing, and another year with very good players and coaches … I’m sure they’ll be even better.”

Part of me wants to say this eminates from Maryland if we're talking 2016 opponents. Is it possible we could do better than a shutout, maybe beat them bad enough that they actually must yield any points scored in their previous game to us? That would be interesting.

Ehh, its probably some MSU player who continues to have a chip on his shoulder, but it doesn't really bother me much. If players were asked about Rutgers and one of our own made that comment, we'd all laugh our asses off.
